Tough greens this week. I found lots of run-offs, and was chipping terribly.

Overall I like the course, but you have to be pretty good with your approach shots, and actually be able to get mid irons to hold the green (which I have never been able to do with TGC).

Even getting short irons to hold those greens was tough. I had one 8 iron land short and still roll off the back. Hopefully TGC2 is able to override the green firmness settings that the designer uses so that courses are more consistent. I can't bring myself to add 20+ yards to my normal distances to account for roll on a short or mid iron.

I really liked the course, but the greens were insanely inconsistent...wedge from the fairway into some, roll-out 20 yards off the green. Then, on 18 for example, I was in the weeds right of the green (30 yards to pin) and the ball checked up and pulled back. Some chips would act normal (for TGC) and some would just keep on rolling. Either way is fine by me, just wish it was consistent on all the greens.

I completely agree...greens are really tough and inconsistent.

hole 2 I think the ball picks up speed when it hits the green. my drive landedshort, then on the green and gained speed as it careened to the back hill

exactly the same thing happened to me, as it was in the air i'm thinking birdie time yes please, it pitched short and rolled the entire length of the green over the back and into the rough, chipped on a 3 jabbed it to make 5! ha!

I scored 10 shots better in my second round because i took 1 less club on every approach landing it front edge or just short to try and keep in on the green..

Why do we keep courses like this (i.e. with unrealistically hard greens) on the tour? I thought that the poll indicated that realism was the first priority of the community. I don't know that greens like this exist on any decent course in real life. It's very unrealistic.

we played the same one last year I believe. protee's green settings patch was supposed to let us override the green settings but the firmness part is broken. I assume they are hard at work making tgc2 right, so they aren't bothering with fixing the patch for now.

Really liked the course layout but when you hit a PW 140 yards pin high with 9500 rpm it shouldn't release 22 feet past the hole. Had to club down on just about every hole. If I went at the green with a mid iron, had no shot at holding the green. Good thing the pins weren't really protected by bunkers.

ProTee United I had to reinstall my laptop and my name is now showing Tim Daugherty instead of timdm3. Can you please update this for me or let me know where to make change? Thanks.

I'm new this year to TGC and just now trying the tour. I have not run into a course I didn't like until now. Pretty nice layout but the greens make this course almost unplayable. Short and mid irons landing in the front and rolling to the back and off the green on almost every hole. Oh well, looking forward to next week.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I bet all the Skytrak folks with the short pitch patch got destroyed by the greens with no backspin. I loved the wide open course with no trees to get stuck behind. The water hole ate me up though. Looking forward to being more active in the tournaments now that fall is here.

First up, set boost to 5% and it's still too low. Had a hit for the first time in real life, and was hitting 290 into a stiff breeze, flat hole (twice in 2 holes) when I got it straight, I can barely muster 270y with no wind when I hit it out of the screws in this sim. Also hit a 7i 170 into a wind and big uphill, that's 150y on a flat and no wind on TGC (old blade set). That said, I sprayed my real life shots like crazy, massive snap hooks, and was doing the same here. I'm trying to "play" without swing thoughts, but changed one thing after a couple of holes today, and finally ditched the snap hook, and saw some amazing results. Really should have parred today, still leaking like crazy from the fringe, or from 25ft+ on the green, but really nice to see a bunch of irons sizzling at the flag, haven't seen that for a while.

A few things on this. I have noticed low ball launch too, on skytrak and tgc. However, it's monumentally different in real. I'm hitting 4i/hybrid/3W miles in the air off the deck (too high for my liking), driver looks about what I'd hope for, but still higher than TGC. Spin I'll accept, I've done nothing to reduce driver spin yet, and fade a lot of good drives. I'm playing with the setup again now, will see how we go.

On distance, it's just never felt good on skytrak range or tgc. I have a smile ear to ear after hitting a shot, and barely crack 250y carry. In real life, it's been that felt OK, but went over 290y in total into the wind, something I never see in TGC without a downhill, have only seen about 2 drives over 290y on skytrak range. Sea level in real life. Irons are similar. I'm playing here in metres what skytrak says in yards, and still end up long. It could be a faulty setup causing overly low launch angle, because sometimes I feel like I nail a 3W, and skytrak says it barely left the ground and goes 150y.

Lastly, I can't confirm rollout in real life, I've never seen carry spot yet. I'll take what you say, but I will say on 3 different courses, ranging a lot in condition, I still feel distance is bigger in real. Today was really tough as the course I played has no distance markers (???), so had to guess. Think I hit one well over 300y, but again it's hard to tell as it's a par 5, and I had no idea how much I had left, well under 200y on a 495y for sure. Best other guess was 290y up a hill, had about 40y left on a 330y.

Either way, I'm keeping my 5% boost, and in non tour rounds when playing with pros, will probably up it 10%, both for my attempt at being closer to real, and also for fun.

Doesn’t sound very scientific. Haha. Maybe check your launch angle with some simple trig. You know the distance to the screen, then measure height of elevation from the height of the teed up ball plus mat to where it hits on the screen. Then height/distance to screen and use the tangent-1 function... Tangent of the angle equals opposite/adjacent...

It's not very scientific, which is why I have put my trust in skytrak, because I have so little else to go by so far. My only other exposure to numbers is a few sessions at Trugolf simulator range, and they showed over 10% longer than skytrak for a well struck drive. But Trugolf has some inconsistencies, and given the place I went to also sells clubs, it wouldn't surprise me if they tweak their numbers a little to make you look longer. And even if I make it to more real rounds, it's really going to be months before I could conclusively say I am consistently carrying it X yards in real life on a truly flat hole, no wind, conditions that essentially don't exist in the real world.

I'll do some work to get the launch angles as you suggested. I have a net, but can put paper in front of it, to see where it hit the paper and try to get some angles.

All that said, I'm more than pleased with skytrak and TGC. Whether it's deadly accurate on length/spin or not, it's definitely consistent. I can feel a fade and it shows that. I can feel I really nailed it, and it goes a few yards further, hit the toe, it goes way shorter. And my in real life rounds are essentially matching the skytrak experience for all that. With instruction and good self monitoring, I do believe you can really improve your game using just this setup, and that is the main reason I invested in this.

The roll on approach shots were pretty ridiculous. Hope this is one of the things that gets corrected in tcg 2. That and multiple tees would be my biggest requests for the next version.

Main thing for me is I want my sim shots to replicate my IRL shots as closely as possible. TCG will occasionally have some courses that have way too much roll on approach shots. The challenge has been the firmness settings with TCG 1. If the course designer sets the most firm setting it can't be completely overriden by our TCG settings. I think it's a fair assumption most of us have our TCG firmness setting set to 1 and still find it a challenge holding a green on certain courses.

As for repping a course, gotta give a shout out to BEK's Arcadia Bluffs. If anyone hasn't tried it yet, this should be on your must play list.

You are dead right jtangm04. 1 should be super mushy but is actually still pretty firm.

Really happy with that, first PAR round!!! Never really felt like it was going to happen and had to birdie 2 of the last 3, which I did, but overall very happy with how the round played out. It was also my first even par 9 this tournament, as well as by far the most birdies, 10 in total for 2 rounds and 6 this round. The difference between this and a 79 was not having a really off day in one area. 79 is always bad ball striking or chipping or putting, but one or two of those being good, but this was more like no major weakness, decent ball strking, chipping and putting all in one round.
