  • Driving distance

I saw this on Twitter yesterday and I am very curious to your thoughts. I am not a long hitter off of the tees and I wonder if I should be playing shorter options. On average my drives are probably 215-225 yards with an occasional one getting in the 240s. I don't use any boost for any of my clubs as my distances seem very accurate to IRL.

    Avg. drive Recommended Tees

    300 yards 7,150-7,400 yards

    275 yards 6,700-6,900 yards

    250 yards 6,200-6,400 yards

    225 yards 5,800-6,000 yards

    200 yards 5,200-5,400 yards

    175 yards 4,400-4,600 yards

    150 yards 3,500-3,700 yards

    125 yards 2,800-3,000 yards

    100 yards 2,100-2,300 yards

There's also a formula that says take your average drive total distance and multiply by 28.

    Just an example: 250 yard average drive * 28 = 7,000 yards

I don't use boost either and my carry distances are pretty close to what I'm seeing outdoors but our courses are firm right now so I'm getting a ton more roll outside than on TGC...

It seems quite long to be playing 7k with a 250 yard drive.

Not if you like 190 in on every par 4

LPGA average carry is 218: https://blog.trackmangolf.com/trackm...ge-tour-stats/

Assume that totals to 245'ish. It looks like they play courses up to 6,600 yards.

So the "correct" answer is probably somewhere between what OP posted and the total * 28 formula.

The figures seem correct to me. My average drives are 230-260 and 6300-6400 is the length I like (to avoid playing woods or long irons on all par-4s and also to avoid wedges as 2nd shot either).
You also have to take the course setup in consideration. Tight courses seem longer than they really are because you have no margin of error in your drives.

          Agree with this.

The guidelines are reasonable for a fairly traditional course but setup will make all the difference.

Played the last two days at two different courses IRL for the first time at each that were located a 10 minute drive apart. Both great courses but one the tips were 7200 and the other 6300. I played one set up from tips both days but easily could have played the tips on the 7200 better than I played the actual 5800 from the tees I played at the shorter course. The latter length gave little as advantage because there was no landing areas for longer drives.

I hit a 300 yard drive once so I stick to 7400. Lol

Well I once hit a 350 yd drive down wind down hill on concrete fairways so I now play 7400 yard courses with just irons. Take that mthunt! Lol

Lol didn't know this stats existed. I drive an average of 240-250 or so. I'm pretty sure this one must have been the first course I played on 2019 where the fairway was a mile down from the teebox and hard as rock. 270 carry and the rest roll lol.

Come on. Be honest. You hit it that far in November on wet fairways in the great white north.
