  • No Putting Society

At the risk of being called out by the people that love putting on TGC 2019, I'm thinking about setting up a society where every player sets putting to 'on green'. The way that works is one putt from within 6ft and 2 putts when on green but outside of 6ft. It's the only way my friends and I play local matches.

Before I set it up - I'd like to get some feedback. Is this of interest to anyone? I've stopped playing the regular events because putting on a sim measures how good you are at putting on a sim. It doesn't translate to traditional golf. The rest of the game - translates really well.

Please provide comments - positive or negative. Thanks.

I think I might have to give this society a try next time I fire up the simulator. Thanks for starting it!

Agree, I've been using "on green" for quite a while and birdies are way too hard at 6 ft. Even Distance at 9 ft might not be enough.

These modes don't separate talent very well though. Eg, if set at 9 ft, someone hitting to 9 ft will score birdie same as another hitting to 7, or another hitting to 3.

If it catches on for competition maybe worth adding a mode that used probabilities based on distance from pin. Using PGA tour statistics then 20 ft is 15% chance of birdie, 10 ft is 38%, 6 ft is 64% etc. Over a round better players score better.

Wizard is very stoked that you joined his society. Welcome Mickey.
try 9ft and see how many birdies you get then maybe consider 12ft. Wizard would probably aim at the middle of the green with 6ft gimmies and maybe a fair amount with 9ft to. 12 ft might encourage him to take dead aim.

wizard is very conservative. So conservative he laid up on number 7 par3 tarwas q school both rounds this week.

I enjoyed the No Putting tournament, but agree with most here that the 1 putt distance should be increased. Looking forward to the next tournament.

I'd be interested in joining once I get set up! I will be mainly using my Skytrak for approach shots/driving practice anyway. Is there a certain setting we need to change or does the society take care of the settings automatically?

You have to set up your putting to match society rules

I played, enjoyed it, a quick round was a benefit. Birdies are hard to come by, and I would consider making the 1 putt longer but don't over look the impact on up and downs. With no putting what do you think should differentiate the scoring? Too long a 1 putt makes up and downs so easy that GIR is less valuable. I think GIR in this format should be valuable. I also think the course matters, this week's was very hard to stuff an approach, other courses I'll make 3 or so gimme birides. Just don't do wild with the tweaks, get a few events on diffet courses under your belt. I think the 6 foot birides would work well on shorter more manageable courses

I think GIR is an overrated stat personally. I miss so many greens shooting at the pin, but i'm like 15 feet on the fringe. I could probably hit twice as many GIR if it was that was the goal, but probably shoot 2-3 shots higher a round. Give me a 40 ft putt and i'm praying to get down in 2.... as you'll find out in our match. I'm better at chipping from 60 feet than putting at 40.

Good point DG. 12 foot gimmies and guys that hit a lot of greens have less of an advantage. I need to try this society today.

Maybe they are hitting it inside 12 ft. Reward that vs 30ft.
Im thinking 9ft/ 12ft gimmies would be good.
Ive played 6ft. Hitting it to 10-12 ft all day and not getting ahead of guys hitting it to 40ft.

I'm new to the sim world and setting my gc2 with tgc2019 hopefully by the end of next week. I was hoping to find ppl online that play without the putting! I've played on someone else's sim before and did not like how the putting indoors traveled to my outside game. I'd love to join the group! Let me know what I need to do. Thanks

Buy the sim you're getting then in the game join the society. That's it.

Realized I'm terrible at putting on the sim so far hah. Thanks for making this. Will definitely play in these events alongside the main tour.

Been travelling. I'll add a few events in the no putting society as soon as I get back. I'm glad there is some interest in the society.

Tried the society today, quite fun!
It showed me that my long game is definitely what I have to work... Scoring was horrible

Since putting with Trackman in simulator is disastrous, this will be the favorite society for Trackman users.

I play on a TM4 on JNPG with 10 foot gimmies. It works great. Are you on 3 or a TM4?

DOC, what putting settings are you using with your TM4 in wizards noonan and the ProTee society?

I’d love this society if it was 1 round. I’m leading so I’ll have to play round 2. Lol.
