  • 2014 Protee Online Golf Tour

The tour will start this Friday at the Blizzard championship and will end sometime in April at the final tour championship. There will be a tournament each week and a major at the end of each month. Which means we will have 3 majors and the last one being the tour championship. I will come up with a tour schedule soon.

We will use my Protee handicap system for now but if somebody knows of a better way or a more automated method(some program), please let me know.

I also need some ideas on how we should keep track of points similar to the Fedex Cup.

We are looking for a sponsor or sponsors for the tour or each tournament. If we get one, there will be prizes.

You can play in as many tournaments as you want, but the more you play, the more points you can accumulate. [b][color=#000000]You must officially join a tournament if you want to participate in that tournament. To do so, just go to the home page of this site, go to events, and set you

Came across a website that might work for handicapping and tracking over the course of the season - called thegrint.com

allows you to setup "tours" and tracks data while also tracking USGA handicaps

haven't used it beyond signing up and looking at it for 5 minutes. Looks pretty cool. Free.

looks like their money-making system is for people to sign up for entering data via score-card photo (take a picture of score card and it gets scanned it). Hopefully they allow you to enter rounds with just totals and it doesn't force hole-by-hole entry

Thanks Mike. I will check it out. If it works great, it will save me a lot of work.

I am good with whatever we decide.
How about 10 points for first , 8 second, 6 third and 4 for rest. Double that for majors.

Here is an idea on the points system:

Every player starts with their estimated handicap which I believe has been assigned already. We can use a point system awarded for placing in each tournament and then when a player gets to a certain point value, their handicap is reduced. Here's how it can work:

                      For each weekly event -
                      1st place 3 points
                      2nd place 2 points
                      3rd place 1 point
                      4th place 0 points
                      5th place 0 points

                      For each major
                      1st place - 5 points
                      2nd place 4 points
                      3rd place 3 points
                      4th place 2 points
                      5th place 1 point
                      6th place 0 points

After a player reaches a total of 7 points, his/her handicap is reduced by 2
after 9 points it is reduced an additional 2
                      after 11 points another 2
after 13 points another 2, etc

A couple of things will happen:
It will keep everyone competitive to be in the running for the year.
Will not allow for sandbagging handicaps
Majors are awarded more points. For those players that miss some weekly tournaments, it will

This is a system often adopted by clubs for keeping things fair and balanced. It's called the Knuth point system.
                        Some additional comments:
You may want to reduce handicaps this way. Once a player reaches a total point value of:
                        7pts - reduce handicap by 2
                        9pts - reduce by 1
                        11pts - reduce by 1
                        etc

Also, In the case of a tie for one of the first 3 (weekly) or 5 places (major), each would earn the full number of points for placing. For example in a non-major event: Two individuals tie for 2nd place. Each of these individuals would earn 2 points You would not give out 3rd place points (or add 2nd & 3rd place points together and divide by 2) under this scenario.
The next finisher in line after the two individuals that tied for 2nd would get 0 points (as they actually did not finish 3rd). No fractions of points are ever awarded.

Another thing to work out is a tie for 1st during a tournament. How do you want to do a playoff? Head to head match play starting on hole 1, play

The points system itself should keep every tournament/rounds competitive. The more points you earn, the better chance you have of winning or finishing high in the final tour championship. If you sandbag a round, you might end up getting very little points or non at all.

No need to reduce handicap by points. The Protee HCP is not just an estimate that gets assigned. For new guys it is, since we have nothing to go on. But for guys that played last year and in the last tournament, it's an established HCP. I keep a running total of 10 tournament rounds for everybody on my spreadsheet. Which by the way, is like manual labor. If somebody knows of a cheap or free program, let know. The Grit.com will not work.

For example, if a 7 HCP blows everybody out and wins by shooting par in both rounds, his/her HCP will definitely go up for the next tournament.

For every tournament that we have done in the past year with the exception of the last tournament, all winners have pretty shot their HCP or slight higher. No one has yet to blow everybody away, in terms of shooting well below their HCP.

Some good ideas. I am good with whatever you decide. I have played on some week long golf trips that reduced hcps just like Rambo posted and I worked great. Little bit of work for you Z. Must be a program that you could use?
