  • 2014 Protee Online Golf Tour

The tour will start this Friday at the Blizzard championship and will end sometime in April at the final tour championship. There will be a tournament each week and a major at the end of each month. Which means we will have 3 majors and the last one being the tour championship. I will come up with a tour schedule soon.

We will use my Protee handicap system for now but if somebody knows of a better way or a more automated method(some program), please let me know.

I also need some ideas on how we should keep track of points similar to the Fedex Cup.

We are looking for a sponsor or sponsors for the tour or each tournament. If we get one, there will be prizes.

You can play in as many tournaments as you want, but the more you play, the more points you can accumulate. [b][color=#000000]You must officially join a tournament if you want to participate in that tournament. To do so, just go to the home page of this site, go to events, and set you

One question that I don't see an answer to. How many rounds in each tournament? 2 or 3?
Lets keep it at 2 rounds, but maybe 3 for the final tour championship?

        Jeremiah, Rambo,

I would like to hand off mleaderboard duties. Who wants it? Or maybe take turns doing it. I'll provide user ID.

        Thanks

I did a little research on this knuth system. And although I think it will work for us I think we need to look into the variations of the method. As I read it is designed to be used over a 2 year period. And it is basically used as described. But the number of events entered is factored in and the number of players is also factored in. Basically I like the system but I am with Bubba and I think it is going to be a nightmare to record correctly. And if we decide to use it we will have to keep records from year to year to make it work as described in the article I read.

But I don't want to be a stick in the mud here. I just want to play golf. So you guys can decide which direction you want to go and I will follow and lend a hand where I can.

Need to keep in mind that points will accrue from both participation and performance. So you could end up reducing handicaps because someone plays more often rather than because they are beating their handicap consistently.

            A couple of thoughts:

            1) awarded points could be based on the number of participants in that particular tournament; so if there are 10 people playing, 1st place = 10, 2nd = 9, etc.; if there are only 4 people playing in a given tourney, 1st place = 4, etc.; or some derivation thereof

            2) we could have a modified version of the fedex cup system that involves a year-end playoff over two weekends; the point standing during the season get you a big advantage for the playoffs, but it doesn't guarantee a win. That would prevent a break away early on that makes everyone give up. But maybe rather than continuing the point system into the season playoff like the fedex does, just give strokes during the playoffs; so the first place winner gets an extra X stro

Ok, between the two of us we should be able to figure it out.

Awesome. It's already setup for this tournament, but starting now, you guys handle posting the leaderboard, making sure the IDX, doesn't accidentally get changed, make sure all the scores and HCP stay correct, post the final leaderboard, etc...

I'll pm you guys my logon ID. It's all you need. Look around and you'll see that it's pretty simple. You practice creating the next tournament rounds also. Once I decide on the course, go ahead try creating the rounds. You'll have to find the real scorecard from the golf course and entering the HCP IDX. Once I post the HCP, you'll enter those in for each player.

For the real rounds, I usually wait until the last minute to create the rounds. Need to make sure you have all the players that are going to play first.

I can help too until get it all figured out. Like I said, it's pretty easy.

I'm in agreement with Tom. The current HDCP combined with a tour point system should keep every tournament competitive. We should reward both good play and participation.

I like the idea of tying the amount of points to the number of players. Last place will still win 1 point. Points can increase by 50% for Majors. As for the final tour championship, I would like to give the top 3-5 a chance to win the championship depending on how many players we have in the tour. If our numbers stay at 10, for example, then the top 3 will have a chance to win. If number goes up to 15, then top 4, etc...

Or maybe reset the points and allow 50% of the field a chance to win if they play really good in those 3 rounds. And also allow the next 25% a very slim chance to win?

The ScoreKeeper HDCP program works pretty good. This will save me a lot of brain cells. The evaluation copy will never expire but it's only limited to 10 golfers. We have about 13 or 14 golfers now. I can run another copy on a different computer which will allow us a combined total of 20 golfers. It just adds a little bit more work.

To purchase the program, the cost is $40 for 20 golfers or $70 for 100 golfers. $70 is not a lot if I can get donations of $5-7 from each player.

                      What do you guys think?
