  • Recording your rounds

I have spent the last couple of weeks figuring out the best way to record and post my golf round to youtube. I have spoken to several members and there did not seem to be a lot of info on the board regarding this topic, so, I have decided to create a "how to" in hopes of helping others.

To see a sample of my videos and the quality, etc. you can look at this one.

    Recording:

I use ShadowPlay which comes with the Nvidia graphics card. It is in the Nvidia Experience Program. I struggled with bad audio and jerky/stuttering video both of the game and of my webcam. The key is that you have to have the cpu power. I bought an I7 quad core, 1070 Nvidia card, 16 m ram, and a 500 gig solid state drive with high end gamer motherboard. Total build cost was around $950. I can run the game around 120 FPS which is flawless.

In recording, the biggest issue is file size. If I record at high quality, the file for 1 round is about 9 gig. This would take 7-8 hours to upload to youtube. I found that if I go in and record at 720p and 30 fps that I can get the file down to 2.8 gig. You cannot tell the difference in quality.

I then take the 2.8 gig file and run it through a free video compressor and get the file down to 800 megs. That is the video that I upload to youtube and what you are seeing.

You can download the video compressor here: http://www.freevideocompressor.com/

So, my total time for a recorded round like above is:

File Compressor Time : 15 minutes
    Upload Compressed file: 30 minutes

Now my total time is 45 minutes as opposed to 7 hours and the quality is the same.

If anyone has any specific questions regarding shadowplay or video compressing, post it here and I will try to help.

I enjoy recording my rounds and I enjoy seeing the others that people make. Hopefully, we can make it easier for everyone to record their rounds.

        Good thread idea.

When you switch to custom, 720p, 30fps in shadowplay, what bitrate are you selecting?

I have been using the medium setting and getting ~10gb / round and it also breaks up the files which bugs me. I've been pulling them over to my mac to combine them and then process down to about 2.8gb for youtube. It's a pain in the ass.

Definitely going to give the compression tool above a shot. I need to look for a freeware something to combine videos also incase it still breaks things up about I lower the settings.

Here is one from today at my current settings

Also, here is the syntax for posting your video inline...

        PHP Code:
        [video=youtube_share;t3FcFRINpLU]https://youtu.be/t3FcFRINpLU[/video]

Thin man, I have it at minimum which is 10

If you go into the "replay" section and set it to manual and set the time to the max then I think ShadowPlay will stop splitting the files. I can now record up to 4 gig in one file.....then all I have to do is compress that file.

That shot was awesome! Think that was the first time ive seen a dunked shot from anywhere outside like 20 yards. Great hit!. And great tips on the recording, im gonna try that compressor as well. Before I would always just set the upload and leave it go when I went to sleep and hope it all went well

              Gene,
Great thread topic. Great shot for eagle. That was great. Great tips on the video recordings. This is something I will have to play with.

Does anyone have great sound coming from the golfer? If so what mic settings are you using. We can hear John very well, just not us.

Great timing. I just started a thread over at HB-Studios to allow course designers to request seeing their course played on the simulator. If you are looking for a practice round check out the requested list and let me know after you post the video. I'll keep updating the first post.
