It looks like they have updated the Palmer courses for 2016. Which one exactly are we playing. Those who care.... take a look and post on the thread. The 2016 versions are recent additions.
Funny how this thread moved on to this, and doesnt really fit but Ill chuck it here.......
I remember having these discussions in a thread I started a long time ago, brings me back haha. Basically mthunt there is a difference between selecting "putter" and having the skytrak in "putting mode". When you select the putter it will make sure the skytrak does have 0 spin and rolls like a putt.
Been a while since I researched and really got into all this but I believe its from 20 yards and in (cant remember if that is exact) the game automatically puts you into "putting mode". In this mode you can select any club other than the putter and it will read normally, the difference being that I believe all "putting mode" does is just gets the skytrak ready to read a slower shot. The problem is it isnt perfect as the skytrak isnt perfect at reading the back/side spins for these shots.
When the chip correction is ON (I believe its ON, cant remember exactly again which one does what, but well say on for this) it will read all chips of any length, but the problem is the backspin will pretty much always be within 1000-1800 (or something in that range) no matter what type of shot you play.
With the chip correction OFF it will read more accurate back/side spin for your shots, but it struggles mightily with no reads on shots that you just want to carry 3-4 yards or less and you will often have to keep on rehitting the same chip over and over until you finally get a read (usually after you hit the ball a little harder)..
So again, dont remember if I have the OFF and ON modes reversed or not in my discription above, but thats the way those 2 different modes work. Both obviously have their faults and benefits but overall this is just a skytrak limitation right now and nothing to do with TGC.
Only bright side is SkyTrak_Seth said they are working on a "smart putting mode". Not sure what this entails exactly, but hoping it fixes it.
I am also going the used GC2 route now with aeroburner and cant wait to give it a go. Still debating or not if im gonna sell my skytrak. It is a great machine and mine has served me well the last few years. Just looking to upgrade to get better short game readings, be able to play more short game shots (feel like the skytrak does ok sometimes, but doesnt like to read some really high flops), the less delay should be nice (didnt bother me much with the skytrak though, kinda liked feeling the shot and then being able to predict what would come up on the screen), and of course the bigger hitting area is great. And just couldnt turn down the deal with aeroburner, good man and love that hes sending these GC2s away and getting them all good and checked out before they come to us.
For anyone who wants to read a lot more on the short game in TGC and the "putting mode" and all. Check out these threads
Thanks for chiming in on this. While this isn't a perfect place for this discussion... it does have bearing on this tourney in particular. tight pins on small greens & SkyTrak puts you in "Putting Mode" is a tough way to go. Seems to me the 20 yard 2000 max RPM is about right. 6 yard chips that carry 3 and roll 3 are fine... pitches that carry 19 yards with 2000 spin are not. If I put this in its own thread it would have died there.
I remember that but wasn't sure that's what it is. You're right. Not an issue on a GC2.

Also to note, even though it says 20yds on the screen, you don't know if it's actually 19+ or 20 and it does make a difference on how the shot reacts on landing. I've had it happen a few times and it's frustrating guessing whether or not the ball will land and check or land and run. I usually guess wrong.
This alone may be worth the upgrade to GC2.. what I save in wedge shafts that don't get snapped over my knee... I am pretty even keeled and I really don't let golf bug me.. but when I see the uncanny valley in golf form it is replusive ..
Does this also happen on other software like JNPG or E6? Just curious.

No real experience with JNPG... I played E6 on a really slow machine with an underpowered graphics card ... but I enjoyed it... don't get me wrong.. TGC is great... but when u don't have space to chip & run it is not much fun between 10& 20 yards to the pin... it would be nice if some other compensation was made ... to say 2500-3000 to give U a fighting chance..
