  • Protee Gear effect problems, Lefty glitch. and screenshot posting

    First off I must be doing something wrong as I cannot capture a printscreen of the attached pics. I had to use my iphone. How do you capture printscreen. When I use the prtscrn I get the desktop and not the protee sim display. This would make posting screenshots much easier.

    My problem is that I am very confused about the software picking up the driver details. I am left handed. I have indicated so in the software. In the screenshots, I have an in to out path. straight clubface, and I am hitting it on the heel 15 mm from the sweetspot. Shouldn't that be creating a slice. I am getting a 50 yard big hook!!! this must be a glitch or something. Maybe I have messed something up in my settings. HELP!!

    Here are a couple of things to check:

    1] Is the overhead light still in the right position.
    2] Is there any debris on the sensors:

    3] If you are a left handed player check if you setup the player as left handed.

    Has this been working correctly yesterday?

    You can also turn off the gear effect in the settings (ALT-E) for testing purposes.

      How much in to out? Heel shots don't necessarily produce a slice. They will offset the shot more towards a fade bias depending on the amount of hook or slice.

        In the screenshot you posted of your swing you're 5 degrees closed to the path with your face angle. The gear effect will take off some of the draw spin, but not all of it. If you had hit closer to the sweet spot it would've hooked more. I hit this same hook a lot, even outdoors. If you were 1 or 2 degrees in-to-out instead it probably would've produced a bit of a fade, but not a slice.

          # Gear_factor_correction:
          # Correction on sidespin (%), value is percentage that will be taken off
          # Value: between 0 and 100
          # Default:0
          Gear_factor_correction=0

          # Gear_effect_factor:

          # The gear_effect happens when the ball is hit far from the sweetspot, when -1 gear_effect will be used
          # Default:-2
          Gear_effect_factor=-2

          These are the gear effect settings from "
          Settings in the settings file explained!"

          What do I set mine to to turn off gear effect? My sim is in the shop. I am off to church and will do this in a couple of hours. I will check the sensors then as well. Regarding the draw spin. That shot in real life produces a nice draw. A 5* in to out swing path relative to the face. But this is giving me a 50 yard hook. If anything the gear effect should reduce that. At least that is what I understood from the attachment on gear effect.

            I think the gear effect is off when set at -2. That's probably why you are getting no gear effect. -1 sees the gear effect on. The gear effect correction will adjust how much gear effect you want.

              I changed my settings to gear effect factor -1 and set the correction to 50 (just a guess). It changed the shot to a manageable 16 yd draw.(I like that shot). I did test the sensors and all was good, I am set up as left-handed. Is there any way to calculate what the draw should be based on the parameters, swing path, club face, launch angle, ball speed, club speed etc.?? Also , what Gear factor correction is the norm. Me putting 50 was a starting point but I would like to know what to expect. Now if I could hit the sweet spot life would be good. Thanks for helping get on the right track.

                Every club I different with respect to gear effect due to different bulge and roll. There is no formula to get it exact but the ProTee formulation used was based on info what units like Trackman suggested as gear effect in general. I have mine set at 0.

                  Thanks Bubba, I will try setting to zero. At 50 an almost perfect drive for me was off line just 13 yards. A little tweak and it will be close enough.

                  It is very confusing looking at the protee shot analysis when I am left handed and the club is for a righty. Is it in the works for some lefty love to fix this???

                    Setting the correction to zero is very good. Thank you for the help.

                      No problem. Enjoy. It's quite accurate.
