  • Top light will not stay green! Please help.

I just picked up a SkyTrak on Friday. I have a nice net and mat set up in my garage along with a new PC and a 55" monitor. Golf season is just starting here in ND and I'm itching to hit some balls.

I got everything all set up. Downloaded the SkyTrak app on my PC along with the app on my iPad Pro. I also made the plunge right away and purchased the Golf Club Sim software (one time pay) got everything installed and hooked up. I tried the SkyTrak app first and hit about 50 balls with various clubs. Disappointed in my yardages, but no big deal, made a few adjustments and got comfortable with my distances.

As it got later in the evening, I wanted to try to play a round on TGC, but suddenly the laser would not stay on. Bottom two lights green and top light would NOT stay green, kept flashing from red to green. I was thinking that it might be the lighting. No sunlight coming in the windows anymore. Gave up for the night.

I called SkyTrak the next day from work and they were no help and said to call back when I was in front of my unit. I did a lot of reading over the next few days and had a day off today and called them. They again were not much help and wanted to blame my network. That is NOT the problem. More on that later.

I wasn't having the same problem anymore (2 green lights and top light not staying green), but instead I was having disconnects. I would hit anywhere between one and four shots and then I would have to reconnect in the TGC interface. Everything would work for a few more shots and I'd have to do it again. Very frustrating. What seemed to fix this for the most part was disabling the USB power saving features and shutting off the firewall. Played a whole round and didn't have any disconnects. I did have some lag (shots would take more than a minute to register)...but progress.

Then this evening, thinking I had it all figured out, went to the garage to test it with another 18 and same problem as Friday night. Top light won't stay green allowing me to even hit a single shot. Both in SkyTrak app and TGC app. So I thought maybe it is a network problem (even tho I am connected via USB, TGC uses internet). So I went offline on TGC, and same thing...TOP LIGHT WILL NOT STAY GREEN, hence no laser on the mat, and no way to play golf. If I can post a video below, I will.

Has anyone else had this issue and successfully fixed it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I sent the SkyTrak in for diagnostics. I just got off the phone with them. They received it on Wednesday, said they DID recalibrate the laser and they were doing further testing and it should be on it's way back to me by Monday or Tuesday.

They still have not shipped it back to me. Must be more to it than just recalibrating.

I am having almost the identical problem! Just got my skytrak last night, splurged on the net return 50 inch tv and a gaming PC. Bought a Dura-Pro mat identical to the one a friend of mine uses with his skytrak. Set everything up, downloaded the software, and boom, off and running. Hit maybe ten balls with an 8 iron and then turned everything off to take the dog for a walk. Came back three hours later, I was pretty excited to try some of the game improvement stuff, and the top red light refused to stay green. On and off, on and off, on and off. Tried changing the lighting in my garage, leveling the device, changing the mat, pretty much everything you tried. Decided to wait until the morning to contact skytrak. Woke up this morning and the same problem is happening. Just got off the phone with customer service and they said that it could be the usb driver on the PC and also recommended a reset with a paper clip on the bottom. I am at work so I can't do that now but hopefully it is something simple.

Got my SkyTrak back today. Hooked it up after I came from a round of real golf. Worked fine, but remember, it worked fine during the day before I sent it in. Tried it tonight, same problem, top light will not stay green for more than a few seconds. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT NIGHT, after 7, or 7:30, best I can figure. Keep in mind I'm using USB mode. So I'm about ready to send it back and tell them I want my money back. Played with it for awhile tho and tried it in DIRECT mode. It worked for SkyTrak app on my PC (except for no sound for some reason, maybe there is no sound, I can't even remember). This is good news sort of, I guess. Doesn't make sense to me tho. Seems ridiculous that it won't work in USB mode. Anyway, I had about 4 holes left on a 9 hole round I was playing earlier in the day on TGC. I figured I'd finish that. Played two holes and then it disconnected. Shut off the SkyTrak, turned it back on, reconnected and finished my round. I guess if it works in DIRECT mode, I'll just use it in DIRECT mode, but I am definitely going to call on Monday and request a new unit and see if they will oblige, and see how that goes, but it did work for about twenty 3 woods in the SkyTrak app, albeit without sound, and 4 holes on TGC, albeit with a disconnect in there. Will test some more, and post what I find. Also, Rob Gamache, I'm sorry you are having this problem too, but also kind of glad it's not just me. Sorry.

Donald Moncure from SkyTrak customer service says that it is too dark in my garage. This is the same gentleman who suggested that it may be a lighting issue, and that there may be glare off of something, but the lighting just doesn't make any difference. I can get by in DIRECT mode with a lot of disconnects, but forget about USB mode in the evening. I watched a ton of You Tube videos before I made this purchase, all different lighting and environments, and no where on SkyTrak's website where I purchased it did I see anything about lighting requirements. As a matter of fact, the video on SkyTrak's home page show's a guy hitting in the dark with a light behind the SkyTrak and a guy hitting in a very bright white room?!?! I've tried that. Very disappointed in the service/lack of help that SkyTrak has for me. I am too deeply invested to just return the product, but I don't get why they won't at least send me a new unit? If I continue to have the issues with a new unit, then it would be safe to assume that the problem is on my end somehow, but they seem very unwilling to do that. Very disappointed.

I have the email trail, I will reach out to you right now. We will get it sorted. It definitely sounds like a hardware issue to me.

I am guessing the 2nd light is green - the network light. My only advice would try it in a "normal room" just swing with a 8 iron if ceiling space is an issue. Also, buy another one and if that one works...then you know you have a bad one. I play in complete darkness excep for an overhead light...skytrak work great.

If it works with the skytrak app....then that's a good sign...sorta. Sorry to give you more questions than answers. But if it works with the skytrak app and not TGC, its probably not an environmental issue (lighting) and probably nothing wrong with your unit. Not really sure why it would work with skytrak app and not TGC....and why it's an issue only after sunset. There's got to be some connection/network issue that pops up after sunset that's only effected when using TGC.

Double check if your Windows Energy profile is set to HIGH PERFORMANCE. In the advanced settings for this profile make sure WIFI, USB, HDD are not set to active suspend.
In energy savings mode, windows will just drop power to USB ports and lowers WIFI signal just to save 25 cent a year... worth a try.

Been working with SkyTrak to get my issues resolved and here is where I'm at. USB connection works flawlessly until 8:15 pm. Like clock work I have the issued that I've described. It doesn't matter if it's TGC or SkyTrak app. If I connect in DIRECT mode after 8:15, it will work, but I will get a lot of random disconnects. In my mind I have it narrowed down to a few things. 1. Lighting-but if that was the case, why will it work in direct mode? Lighting isn't different. I've seen countless YouTube videos of the SkyTrak being used in all kinds of different lighting. I feel like I can rule this out 99% 2. USB ports faulty- but why at 8:15. I've set all the power settings to maximum performance, no active suspend, changed settings in the device manager, etc. This seems possible, but more than likely it might be a combination with 3. Computer-some setting or software (virus scanner, firewall, something that starts up at 8:15), but I can't figure this out for the life of me. And 4. Faulty SkyTrak- If I can just get SkyTrak to send me a new unit, just to try...odds are if it does the same thing, then I could probably or at least very likely rule that out.

Ive been able to use it, but there is definitely something wrong and I'm not exactly computer illiterate or not tech savvy (at least a little, I'm a master certified technology expert on GM vehicles), for the money, it should work as advertised tho. Shouldn't be this complicated.

Thanks for all the help and I'm sure I will get this resolved soon.

Here is a shot in the dark. Not sure what it could be, but can a neighbor or someone living in your house start to do s something everyday at 8:15. Have you tried setting you clock back on the computer so it never reaches 8:15. For example, at 7pm change it to noon.

I had an issue once where a hospital would call me that they would lose connection every day between noon and 3 for about 10 min. could not solve it remotely so flew out there. By luck I was sitting outside when the UPS man came by. As soon as I walked back in they told me it was down. As soon as he left the network came back up. the next day exact same thing. The UPS truck was blocking the microwave connection the remote side of the hospital.

                    problem sovled....

Yeah, cberglof, tell the UPS guy to get the hell out of your driveway. He shouldn't be there at 8:15pm every night anyway!

Alright, this is definitely complicating things To reiterate, I do not believe it is anything to do with lighting. ProTee had some very good suggestions on settings which it looks like you have tried. So that brings it down to PC or SkyTrak unit. Is it possible that you have another PC or can borrow one and install the app and play from 8pm - 8:30pm and see if you encounter the same issue? I'm certainly happy to work with support to get you out a new unit, but after hearing this, I'm skeptical that it will do any good.

I will try setting the clock back, and see what happens. Actually thought of that, but didn't try it yet. And I may have an old laptop that I can try, but it won't run TGC for sure...will post results as soon as I can. I really want to try a new SkyTrak unit too. Unless of course setting the clock back works. Might try to set it ahead at lunch today and see what happens. Can't for the life of me think of or know of a process that maybe starts on my computer at that time. Haven't installed anything on it. Just the usual crap that comes preloaded on it. Bought it just for this! And it shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone use this same PC?

Yeah, don't worry about TGC for now. Connection stuff should be the same between that and the SkyTrak app. Don't need a powerful PC for SkyTrak.

Went home at lunch, it was noon, changed the clock on my PC to be 8 pm. Launched the SkyTrak app and connected thru USB, hit a few balls, went and made lunch, came back out at 12:17, 8:17 on my PC, all was well, hit a few more shots, all was fine. So 8:15 on the clock is not the magic bullet. I can't think of anything that could be interfering in the evening, but there has got to be something. My network is good, and if I'm hooked thru USB, what would that have to do with anything anyway? Maybe I'm back to lighting? Although I've tried many different bulbs, moving my setup to different areas of the garage, spotlights, etc, maybe it's the lighting? Sunset is after 9 here, at 8:15 the light is no different than it is at 8, at least perceived by me. The only other thing I can think of is my network...does anyone use their SkyTrak with eero? It's a mesh network, but I am wired in, in the garage. I will try with my laptop tonight and I will also try agin hooking it up in a different room, but the garage is the only place I have enough clearance to swing the clubs. Maybe I need to start a new thread about eero?

different room is a nice try - just use the 8 iron. If you do not swing does it loose connection? If it does, no need to even swing. I do not have eero, but it is suppose to be a good solution. I almost went with it but went with a ASUS router.
