  • SkyTrak v3.1 Public Beta

    Hi all,

As mentioned, I’d like to give you guys the opportunity to take v3.1 for a test drive before we officially release it. As with every other time I’ve done this, please keep comments, questions, and feedback within this thread and DO NOT CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT for anything involving this public beta - I’ll handle everything in this thread. While there are still a few bug/cleanup items to take care of, I’d like to keep this beta period under 1 week.

Here are the v3.1 Release Notes:

    - Added Shot Optimizer
    - Added SkyTrak Calculated Club Data (Angle of Attack, Dynamic Loft, Swing Path, Face to Path)
    - SkyPro Integration (replaces Club Head Speed, Angle of Attack, Dynamic Loft, and PTI)
    - Club Insights Integration (replaces Club Head Speed, Angle of Attack, Swing Path, Face to Path, and PTI)
    - Improved Club Head Speed Calculations for all clubs
    - Added Fairway Practice
    - Changed Ground Conditions to “Rough” if a Green is Present
    - Fixed Practice Green Hit/Miss bug
    - Fixed Metric/Meters bugs
    - Additional Report/Export Features
    - Miscellaneous Bug Fixes and Improvements

    Here are some additional notes:

    1. Club Data Screen – I initially wanted the club data screen to be a popup, but in testing it proved to be more of an annoyance than a benefit, particularly because I often wanted to see it or the ball flight whenever the other was showing. So, it made more sense in practice to make it a dedicated screen.

    a. SkyTrak Club Data – This is calculated club data based off measured ball data. In testing, it proves very accurate on center-struck shots. At this point, we are still working on improving the data for poorly-struck shots.

    b. Club Insights – This method uses a library of hundreds of thousands of shots hit on various launch monitors that measure club data. It simply matches up our ball data to a shot with the closest comparable ball data and applies the corresponding club data. On release, this will be an add-on package, but they have generously allowed us to include the option in this public beta. Club Insights beta functionality will cease March 11th. If this option is selected, then applicable values turn BLUE in the app.

    c. SkyPro – You can use your SkyPro to supplement some of the calculated club data assuming you have the latest SkyPro app from the app store. Here, you will need 2 devices (Connect the SkyPro to device A, connect the SkyTrak to device B. Device A and B talk to each other over BLE). Device B can be iOS or PC (Windows 8.1 or Windows 10). If this option is selected, then applicable values turn ORANGE in the app. *I understand this is going to be a complicated process for some…and will work on better instructions for release. Not so worried about this portion during this beta period.

    d. R-Motion – Still in development

    e. Since many of you may not wish to integrate with another device nor care to use calculated data, I added a simple Side and Top Profile view with Max Height and Flight Time that you can toggle to instead. This allows you to still take advantage of the Shot Optimizer. (green = in optimal range, yellow = close to optimal range, red = outside optimal range).

    2. Fairway Practice – We think this is a cool new feature that will help you practice your shots shaping. You access it just like practice greens (and there will be more practice areas to come in the future).

    3. To mimic fairway practice, I changed the rest of the field to “rough” conditions when using Practice Greens and Closest to Pin Challenge (Target Challenge uses all fairway ground still). Is this desirable? I can see the 'yes' argument to focus on carry, but can also see the flip-side for those who might like to run it up.

    4. If you get a prompt to upgrade the app when using this beta - IGNORE IT.

This beta is only for PC (iOS is too hard to distribute outside of the app store)

    Thanks,
    Seth

    * Do I have to pair Skytrak and Skypro together? When I tried using them together tonight, Skypro is giving different data on my iphone than what is reported on my Skytrak PC software. The data on the PC is the same for Skytrak, Skypro or Club insights data.
    * Do you have to toggle in and out of club data for every single shot? It seems like I have to close out of club data, take the shot and then back to club data. Can't I just leave club data screen up and keep hitting balls?

    Thank you
    1) The shot optimzer is in the middle of the club data screen. It is based on the club selected and your ball speed. We optimize for launch angle, back spin, and descent angle. (green is within range, yellow is close, red is outside of range)

    2) I'll check on super-soft bug

    3) Your PC must be Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and have BLE support (and bluetooth enabled). Also make sure that you have the latest SkyPro app installed. The SkyPro app on your iPhone and the SkyTrak app on your PC should pair up automatically. I'll need to make a dedicated SkyPro thread to help folks get this all setup and working.

    4) No, you should be able to stay on the club data screen while hitting shots. Is the data not updating?

So two different kinds of club data? One included by Skytrak, the other will be an add on if wanted? I take it the add on is more sophisticated than what you guys are doing?

That's correct. Although I wouldn't say it's more sophisticated per say...just a completely different way of producing the data.

FYI, I installed the beta and immediately get a crash log and message that the app is going to close. If you ignore the message and just click somewhere else on the screen it actually just keeps working for me. Sort of odd but wanted to share... If you get the crash message I would try simply ignoring it.

Interesting...I think it might have something to do with the bluetooth module. I'm going to make a build with that disabled and see if it resolves these few crashes. Must be something microsoft-related that is installed (or not installed) on these PC's.

Can you guys that are going to use this beta post some screen shots, please? I only have iOS devices and will not be able to try out the beta. Thanks in advance!

SkyTrak_Seth so there is no way to show the club data after a shot besides going into the menu? i would love it, if it popped up in a 5 or 10 sec window and the balla data was on the bottom row like in the vids we saw earlier at the PGA show.

That's correct. I personally thought the popup didn't work well. However, I'm not opposed to having a setting that allows you to have the whole club data screen popup over the range and then disappear.

I think popup window with a user controllable time setting would be nice.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Downloaded and installed without a hitch on Window10. I have a Skypro linked to my Android phone, but I don't think I have BLE on the old laptop I use.

            Requests,
            1. An option to have the club data pop up for a proscribed period of time.
            2. A table of the last 4 or 5 shots with the info shown on the bottom of the range screen in table form. The foresight setup at PGA SS does that and I realized how much I like it when I went there with a friend last week.
            3. Would the range look better if it were tilted slightly downhill?
            4. Compare shots in club data
            5. I bought the Skytrak for practice, not sim, so I live in the range and the history. The more you can do to make the range include most of the data in history and club data, the better.

            Thanks again, great work.

I am also unable to change from SuperSoft in Session Settings, conditions. Sorry not exact, but to the left of the altitude setting.

Nice to see a company continuously trying to improve their software and listening to their customers requests.

that said, how's the club data thing working for people? Anywhere close to showing what's really going on? Anyone really good at shaping shots here that could test it out?

SkyTrak_Seth I have been working on pairing my google pixel 2 xl to my skypro (successful) and then pairing my phone to my laptop (dell inspiron 15 gaming laptop) havent been successful there yet, but i also downloaded skypro on my wifes iphone for the latest skypro release. My question is when you said the latest app do you mean the one from the pga show that you were talking about that is only on iphone is the only one that can be used to send the data to skytrak being connected to pc via wifi? or is it the latest app on either OS??

update, i was able to pair my wifes iphone and my laptop together after the skypro was paired to my wifes iphone. so i got success on that. but in testing the club data from skytrak nothing was transferring back to the skytrak application running on windows. it still all just kept the same information whether i clicked on skytrak skypro or club insights. the data was pretty cool to look at even if it was calc'd But from what my skypro app was showing and what was calc'd and shown through skytrak and club insights was so far off haha wasnt for sure which was which. I have been thinking my skypro has been wildly off recently though on anything not named club head speed. Mostly angle of attack and also how far my back swing goes. I wonder if this is the same no matter height length of clubs or anything like that? But on certain swings where i know im not over swinging it was saying i was going well past parallel which was pretty wild.

                  1) Yep, will look at doing that - shouldn't be difficult.
                  2) I've had that request recently. I'll look at it, I just hate to clutter the range.
                  3) We will be adjusting camera angles in the next release...I think it's not range "tilt", just the angle of the camera.
                  4) That might be tricky
                  5) We'll be accommodating the request for 'custom' data values on the range, but I don't want to add more at the expense of cluttering the UI.

If you’re not interested in Club Head Speed, Angle of Attack, Dynamic Loft, and PTI....is there any other reason for someone to use skypro along with skytrak? Does the skypro increase the accuracy of any of the other calculated data ie path, face to path?

Not really. The problem with face angle and swing path is that there is no way to align the target lines of SkyPro and SkyTrak.

                    Seth,

I can't seem to change the ground firmness anymore in the range settings.

I got the skypro to synch no problem. I had a problem with my bluetooth driver - replaced and all good now! The light turned orange next to skypro in club data confirming it was synched up. A few more things I noticed...

                    * Would love the club data to show for a user defined time frame as mentioned above. Or even better could it be a split screen like 50% range and 50% club data. The club data doesn't even need to be 50% as 25% of the screen should be more than enough for club data?
                    * The greens/fringe/rough look much better. The colors are more realistic now.
                    * How accurate is clubhead speed with the skypro? Is this a "better" number than what skytrak was estimating before?
                    * When in the skypro club data setting, is swing path and face to path calculated by skytrak or club insights?

                    Thank you
