SkyTrak Missing Shots

Hello Everyone,
SkyTrak newbie here. I've been using a brand new SkyTrak with FMJ enclosure for about 3 weeks. I have the E6 software loaded also (30 day trail). I'm using a CCE hitting strip that is surrounded by carpet (medium plush, light brown color). Sometimes I get good readings, especially when I first start up the equipment (using network mode now, but have used the others also). On a couple of occasions it has picked up almost every shot until about shot 40 to 60 using the SkyTrak software, then it started missing over half the shots. It almost seems like the unit starts having issues after it warms up?

Yesterday I ran an experiment and started the unit up with the E6 software. It was missing nearly half the shots right from the start. Switched back to the SkyTrak software and it worked much better, but still missing some shots. Playing the E6 simulator seems to work for.a few holes, then the misses become so common that you can't hardly continue. Putting is nearly unusable most of the time (misses about 75% of the time).

I am inclined to think I have a defective unit, but I would like to get some second opinions before I return it. Not much point in sending it back if I need to fix my setup. Could you guys give me some tips to try? Thanks

Could it be the height of the unit relative to the mat? Try without the FMJ case to keep the unit even with the mat?

Not sure I have the guts to remove the FMJ! I'm certainly a beginning golfer, and miss hits are common. The elevation is very close to correct. I have a platform for the hitting surface and the adjustable legs on the FMJ have the bottom of the unit very close to the level of the turf. I could get out an actual level to adjust if I need to, but surely looking level is close enough?

I wanted to add that I have tried moving the ball around, but can't find a ball position that really helps. I'm not counting the misses that result from super high wedge shots or scalding the ball with no elevation. However, the unit typically reads the low shots as good as a decent strike.

Im sure you have probably read most of the threads pertaining to this subject. If not, try using a white golf ball with a large logo on it...for instance a bridgestone with the large B logo. Make sure the logo is positioned to face the ST. This solved my issues I was having with misreads and weird spin numbers.

I've mainly been using Callaway Super Soft and Srixon, but I must admit that I place them randomly. The Srixon logo is pretty big and distinct, so I will try that when it starts acting up. It just seems strange that it works fine at times and then it struggles, when nothing has really changed in between. Is this common or uncommon?

I love E6, but putting is awful with Skytrak, and chipping around the greens is very difficult as the unit will not pick up a short chip. I always have mine set to the computer putting out.

I am sure that you will solve your problems with help from this forum. My best advice is to get rid of the CCE strip and replace it with a fiberbuilt flight deck or similar product before you develop elbow and wrist issues. Also unless it's absolutely a clean hit off of CCE you will be hitting well short of your true distance. I made the same mistake when I got my unit.

The CCE strip is about worn out from hitting outside the last coupled years, and Fiberbuilt is on my radar. I talked to them a few days ago about the 3' section that they sell to commercial customers. The three interlocking squares come in a metal frame. Will the 3 pieces be wide enough to give me good readings, or do I need the larger mat?

With regards to FMJ, take it out and chip or perhaps some short pitches.

Anyhow, no reads that have no obvious cause are often network related.

"network related" I was having quite a ew no-reads so I had my internet checked out. It was pretty sketchy connection to where I was, I fixed that and it's been a ton better since then.

I have been using the three interlocking FiberBuilt interlocking squares for about a year now. I use a CCE type mat for a stance mat and the FiberBuilt strip for a hitting strip. I have very few misleads. I believe that other than very thin hits that are mostly not read, most of the no reads that I have experienced have been related to the computer updating programs or scanning for viruses. I don't use the IOS app, but, I think it would be interesting to see if the SkyTrak works better in the app than on the computer when a lot of no reads are happening.

Well I just hit 100 wedge shots at a 60 yard target. It missed #29 (3 green lights), number 69 (3 green lights), number 72 (shanked to the right, 1Red light) and number 77 (stubbed the club into the turf and ball probably would have gone 15 yards, 3 green lights).

This is using a PC and network mode, SkyTrak software. The only thing I changed was having more fluorescent lights turned on overhead. I've never seen E6 register anything close to 98% (when you subtract the two shanks).

Would I have this kind of performance with TGC? I could live with that.

Switched over to E6 practice and hit 50 of the same shots. It read 86% of them, and 3 of the mis reads were poor shots.

That’s odd, I use E6 and get nearly 100% reads with my Skytrak. I use a USB connection.
