  • Upgrade offer

Just recieved an email from TGC skytrak offering me 50 percent off to upgrade to the new 2019 TGC. From slot of the forums I have been reading I thought this would be a free upgrade to existing lifetime members?

A better way to think about TGC vs TGC2019 is like new versions of Madden NFL coming out for Xbox or PS. The older version will always work, but it's completely separate from the new version.

Correct. Someone on here offered a good explanation of "update" vs "upgrade." The two are distinct in how software companies sell their products.

If you purchased before January 1st 2018 and were not selected through the "loyal customer" upgrade, you were offered a heavy discount for the 2019 version.

I purchased my lifetime license in October of 2017. Seems pretty lame that missing the cut by less than 2 months means $400 to upgrade instead of the free upgrade.

yup, and if you got it, then other people that bought in august would think it's lame. If they got it, then people who bought in June would think it's lame. They have to draw a line somewhere. It is what it is. This has been beaten over the head by the community for over 3 weeks now. Good thing it's being offered for 50% off.

Same here. Oct 28th folks that bought before Jan 1st should be considered as loyal since we dropped coin first.

ProTee United it would be really nice if the definition of "loyalty" were extended to folks who paid the same amount for a lifetime license, just a few weeks earlier than others. October '17 money is just as loyal as Jan '18 money.

I'm in that boat. I'll pay the discounted price. But I really do feel like I got tricked. I thought that they explicitly made it clear that future versions of TGC would be included.

Here we go again!! ProTee can't give everyone free software. In January of 2018, it was announced that 2019 was imminent. They offered the free upgrade to continue the revenue stream, since they are business and all. No one would have bought TGC once they knew another software was going to be released... They understand economics - Supply and demand.

They didn't consider people who purchase in 2018 to be more loyal than people who bought in 2017... The loyalty determination was based on a set of criteria, albeit, mostly case by case for guys that played on tour almost every week, and guys that were heavily active in this community.

It sucks, and in hindsight I'm Protee would have done something different and maybe they will in the future, but I guess businesses can't make everyone happy, or they wouldn't be business.

Yep Free or Nominal was the message - I guess $400 is the new nominal.

I unfortunately don’t see this changing now. Some who perhaps got lucky may say we should just suck it up and move on.... but really does feel like a classic bait and switch.

I wouldn't have expected them to if they didn't say that they would.

It's not a bad deal. It's just that I don't like the way that it went down.

did they cut off your updates for TGC1? If so, they tricked you. TGC 2019 upgrade is not an update.

It is unfortunate I was not able to sort through the hundreds of posts regarding this to know that prior to 2018 you would not be considered a loyal member. If so I so I would have voiced my opinion. If using the old software allows me to play the tour it is highly unlikely I will not pay for the upgrade. If communication was better and I was told from the beginning I would need to pay to upgrade it would have been fine. How this was rolled out is bad business. Knowing that some of the rules are changing on the online tour seems unlikely my old software will work. This is unfortunate and if the case I will miss the tour.

There will be two tours going forward, TGC and TGC 2019. They will still have a TGC1 tour so you can still participate. Obviously a bunch of people will move on to the TGC 2019 tour so we will have to see how many people remain on the original tour. Some people will play both.

2018 did not decide what a loyal member was. The specifically stated the difference between update and upgrade. Then they outlined the requirements for the free upgrade.

This all sounds so petty. I got a solid 2 years out of TGC1 for $1000 canadian. Cheaper than a golf membership that is 2500 per year for 3 months of summer in Canada.

To pay 500 for the upgrade to TGC 2019 seems like a good deal to me and I will be playing this for a few years at least. Doesn't seem like a terrible investment considering the amount of golf I get out of it.

Simulators and simulator software is not cheap. Some people should stick with the Optishot which is more affordable.

I still think the most sustainable model for Protee going forward is to either lease the software on a yearly basis, or if someone is willing to shell out the money to become a lifetime purchaser, charge them a reasonable annual fee like skytrak does, for continuous upgrades. This way, there is only one platform to maintain, one tour to run, and likely a lot more happy past and future customers.

To all of the post 2018 crowd who got the free upgrade, I would suggest that if a shiny new version comes out in a year, and you have to pay another 395 to get it, you won’t be quite as happy as you currently are.

Yes, seems the folks with the free upgrade are the first ones to tell us poor saps without it to suck it up. They should have either given everyone the free upgrade, or no one. It's ridiculous to say someone who spent money on December 31st, 2017 is less worthy of the upgrade than someone who did it January 1, 2018.
