  • New User - WGT frustrating Grrr...

So I bought the Skytrak deal last month with the WGT software and have been getting used to some of the peculiarities of using the device in my garage hitting station - which has a full-sized professional range mat (bought form a golf course) and a large net. I also have a doppler radar that I have used for swing speed training and I am fairly used to my gapping throughout my bag out on the course. The issue is that I have is that overall my distances are short and the swing speeds are slower - compared to the doppler. But most if not all of my (good) shots are somewhat playable on the SkyTrak range. Even wedges are maybe short - but the shot shape is there. When I switch over to play a course on WGT - the shots are all over the place and it just gets worse the shorter the clubs and especially from 150 in. Just completely makes this game unplayable and certainly not any fun - when you know you hit a good one - but it registers a duff. I know it is not the setup - because if I switch back to the range in the Skytrak app - it works. Anyone else have this issue with WGT?

The saving grace for the SkyTrak for me is that the shot shape is fairly accurate and since I know that the distances are short compared to the real thing - I can deal with it.

If you’re hitting 110 on SSR you’re either hitting it awful or your SkyTrak isn’t reading right. I hit 115 regularly on ssr and see ball speed from 155-160 when the sun is down.

I’m going to contact support. It is either user error on my part or a defective unit. I can’t get decent launch angles on any clubs and it doesn’t reflect real golf shots.

Another thing I just noticed is that your ST is pretty low there. I might try elevating with a block of wood or something to see what happens to the data. It's always been a bit of a mystery how ST can claim accuracy on launch angle on a teed ball.

It shouldn't matter where it's launched from rise over run.

What Wiz said. The height of the unit only really matters to the SkyTrak’s field of view - has no effect on VLA. VLA will be directly affected by the unit being out of front-back level, however.

I bought the skytrak performance package in February 2020, specifically to work out at home and play courses through this pandemic. The following is what I have experienced.

I have the same problem with how WGT interprets my shots.
in skytrak driving range mode I will have an average 277 yd total driving yardage but when I move to WGT it is rare for me to have a 250 yd drive and on average is 235 yds.

in an attempt to troubleshoot whether it was me or the software, I would toggle back and forth between WGT and ST and the distance (and the direction which the ball traveled) would be grossly different.

additionally, the very short game (chipping within 25 yds) is so inaccurate...EX I’ll have a 15 yd chip with plenty of green to run up, hit a loft wedge what I typically use on the course and it will go 45 yds. I’ll hit the mulligan button and use a putter like stroke and the ball will go 3 yds. Almost not worth playing when so close to the green.

what I don’t know could be the problem is the fact that playing WGT outside of the skytrak software, as a game on your phone/tablet, you receive basic clubs which are limited in accuracy and range. When using the ST to populate data to WGT I wonder if WGT uses the basic club data as a starting point for in application shot data.

regardless, I am also a very frustrated customer as the accuracy between the two applications, ST & WGT, are very different and I do not plan to renew my membership with WGT when it expires.

if anyone has a similar issue and has been able to figure this out I greatly appreciate any advice.

Yes - the short game sucks and is mostly unplayable. I did not renew my subscription for this exact reason.

I never noticed much difference between Skytrak range numbers and WGT numbers for full swings. But yes, the short game on WGT is just atrocious. It didn't take me long to realize that I would be upgrading to TGC2019 sooner rather than later.

I have never used WGT, but the list of complaints is long. If you are on a budget, I suggest you look into fitness golf, creative or original TGC in order to have some type of on course experience. Or consider a one year license for E6/TGC2019. Or go even bigger and move TGC2019 purchase.

If you want to troubleshoot WGT, I suggest you join the facebook group. Lots of people who make it work there, and they have weekly tournaments etc (though i think the season just wrapped up).

I came to the same conclusion. My PC build should be ready in a few days then I am on to TGC2019.

Haha same. My computer is scheduled to be delivered on Thursday and I'll be buying TGC2019 as soon as I get it set up. I was originally going to stick it out with WGT until the fall but COVID made me anxious to go ahead and pull the trigger now.

Hi I got my skytrak recently and have had a few teething problems mainly because I play outdoors and it's been sunny in the UK for a change.

My advice is try the E6 demo for free on iOS or pc if you have not yet. It's so much better than Wgt and I think you will find it much less frustrating and more fun to play. Short game is much improved as your actual position is shown on screen rather than a random photograph of somewhere near your ball.

Unfortunately you will have to spend £250 per year for E6 rather than £100 for Wgt but it's worth it once you get over the sting of paying £2k for the skytrak unit.
