  • was it windy? did you have head wind? are you certain of your distance on the range? not all stalls are exact.

I put some info in the beginning of the movie. 5-10 mph but no head wind that would reduce distances. You can see the flag moving. I measured the target distance with my laser range finder.

      • And, the yellow range balls were clean and in good shape. Even, I picked the bests out of them and cleaned them with a towel to make sure. Finally, I tried two of my own regular white balls in good shape, but the gaps were still there. The temperate was the only cause I could think of.

I have to say thanks for the input, just going out and doing that is adding to the amount of information we can gather on this device.

          Nice job!

The temperature was low (41 degeers), so it could have affected the carry. Any insights? I know that 1.8 version will add the temperature in the settings and hope that it will provide better results.

your spin is really low. what club were you using?

I'm not sure what you are trying to get at, but those spins are about right for that distance shot to me. I use a 54 degree wedge whose grooves are quite worn and not cleaned. I can increase spins by trapping the ball more. When I use Skytrak indoors with new balls, I get similar spins for that distance. With the same wedge, I get 5000-7000 rpm for 90-100 yards shots. I have a brand new pitching wedge and I get up to 9000 rpm for a full shot.

                • Was the unit level because 35* launch angle seems really high for a pitch shot with a 54* wedge.

Yes, I brought a leveling bubble tool with me and I tried to level the unit as good as I could.

                    • Almost sounds like worn out grooves. Ball rolling up the face and launching high with little spin. Skytrak is calculating it as almost a small flier shot.

                      • I did a little bit of homework. I put the Skytrak's launching numbers to the Flightscope Trajectory Optimizer (web version). FTO predicts the carry distance much closer to the actual ball flight. Whether or not I tried to translate the spins into spin axis, the distance was the same. I hope that we all can gather enough data to suggest a fix. Can anybody run the numbers against other flight optimizers (or models)?

                        • Correct me if I am wrong but int Flightscope Trajectory Optimizer more geared towards th driver? Optimal flight would be a better choice I would think.

                          • On page 57, Frank Hann said Flightscope Tracjectory Optimizer is good for irons and drivers. He initially raised a question about it, but he corrected himself. (Apparently, he is an expert in this subject. )

                            • I entered all clubs from skytrak into the trajectory optimizer and they were very close to the yardages I play my clubs too. Is the optimal flight program free?

                              • I am getting more serious and more concerned about the accuracy.
I went out to a range again and hit balls to 63 yard target. The discrepancy is more obvious.
The example is here. The actual ball carry was about 62 yards. Skytrak says '75' and Flightscope Optimizer says '64.3'.
17 shots I recorded showed the discrepancy which is way beyond the acceptable level.
