Well, there's another point of view. If the software company goes out of business, it's not very helpful for the consumer. And if the producer charges a price that's excessive, competitors will come in and take business away from them. Software doesn't intuitively fit the normal supply/demand curve because the cost of replication and distribution is so low. The initial cost of development can be extremely high and needs to be recouped at the same time that a continuous stream of revenue is maintained. The industry has been trying to sort this out for awhile now. Companies that have been able to use a subscription model often seem to do better in the long run. I've been stuck holding some app that is dated, no longer runs or is no longer supported more times than I can remember.Originally posted by FaultyClubs View Post
That's $300 a year, or about 20% of the Skytrak, every year for the rest of your life.
Compared to an exorbitant purchase price option (>$4k?) leasing the software for $300/year doesn't sound too bad...$25/month sounds even better...pennies a day better still. It's all in the marketing. But for the consumer the real answer is something they don't want people to think about...buying the software at a reasonable price to start with!
Anyway, just a different point of view.

Well that's certainly debatable. This current subscription bandwagon hasn't been around long enough to establish that. My personal feeling is that success in the long run is based more on factors such as innovation and growing the market and market share than a pricing model. In fact, I suspect a subscription model may correlate better with poor performance than good performance in the truly long term (would be a good economics research paper!).Originally posted by dsailer View PostCompanies that have been able to use a subscription model often seem to do better in the long run.
In any case, Skytrak doesn't have any competitors in this quality/price range so they can do what they want. Hopefully other options will emerge or it will become a one horse race.

As for other devices, there is already a thread on this forum starting to discuss other devices which should be announced in the next couple of months. Until then, ST has the monopoly on affordable LM. the only reason I haven't jumped onto it yet, is because it has not been proven as a SIM (putting).

The writing is on the wall. The price point just dropped significantly. Skytrak knows it and E6 knows it, which explains E6's pricing with Skytrak. Skytrak is going for market share because they know other new products will follow. Pricing and anticipating the future market is critical in business, but as FaultyClubs said, so is innovation. And the result is we all reap the benefits from the intense competition.Originally posted by Mikkaat View Post

Anyway, I'm enjoying my new toy. I haven't contributed a review (yet) mainly because I just started golfing again after a long term shoulder injury. I'll only say, for now, I'm happy with the purchase and concur what others have said: the software needs work, but it's accurate.
Btw, if SkyTrak is listening, I'd love to work on this project. I have about 3 years experience with IOS development and this project would be a blast!

would have been awesome if par2pro continued the recording onto the put.Originally posted by Three Putt Pars View PostSorry if this has been posted already, but here is a video of Skytrak and E6 from the PGA show.

I've been away for a while working on my simulator room in my house. About 90% done with it but am able to hit balls. skytrak seems to be pretty accurate from what i can tell from my pw to my 5 iron. the roll is way off but the carry distance is spot on. haven't hit much past the 5 iron but everything is looking much better to me. It could also be the mat i am hitting off of is one of the plush mats that take off distance.
i feel a lot better about this purchase compared to a month ago. can't wait for real simulation. $25 a month is nothing compared to $12 a bucket at my local range with worn out balls.

Just bought a Skytrak! I'm going to borrow an iPad for a while but am planning on also buying an iPad. I've sen various posts about delay throughout the forum but for Skytrak owners I'm curious: What model iPad are you using and how long is the delay from impact until you see the ball start to fly on the screen? I'm especially curious to know if iPad Air 2 is any faster than the original iPad Air. Thanks

I have a iPad Air and the delay is around 4-5 seconds. I use my Apple TV and Projector to send the image to the big screen. I find the delay tolerable, since it forces me to hold the finish, and consider where i think the shot is going (i'm right about 95% of the time). I'd like to see it instant too, but it's not a deal break for me at the moment.Originally posted by Three Putt Pars View PostJust bought a Skytrak! I'm sick of looking at this range though....could do with a few options on scenery or targets.

I was unsuccessful either. I found that the original Apple ID is strictly tied to the app so that you cannot work around with your Apple ID. So, I am just doing a lot of guess work for my distance and hoping for 1.9 release soon.Originally posted by DougieMn View PostI've been unsuccessful in getting the SkyTrak App back to 1.7.
