Thanks for this info and pix, my 14 month old unit just did the same thing. I opened it up and swapped the IR curtains, back to hitting balls in the winter., might be good for another year and then send it off ...

There are no markings on the IR emitter, might be proprietary. I'm going to ask if skytrak will sell me only spare parts.

Be sure to let us know what they say about the parts. I’d assume they say no but it would be great if they did sell them

Customer service (Jessica) said they dont sell parts, I reminded them of the numerous posts here about the poor reliability of the recent IR components.

          Hi all

Yesterday I did the process inspired by this post and luckily everything went well and now the skytrak unit is working fine again. I attach some pics of the process to help anyone can need help and to satisfy curiosity of how skytrak unit is inside.

I agree with @BirdieBalls, the most challenging part of the process was opening the case

I'll available for any question you could have about the process

@Willempielast picture is for your question

Many thanks GungHoGolf for your help providing me this post.

            Thanks,
            very helpful.
I changed the two on the outside however. Not the ones in the middle.
            Works like a charme.

Thanks everyone for all the help! My right laser curtain stopped working yesterday and I was able to change it with the left handed one following these instructions. I’m hoping To get the left handed laser curtain up and running again at some point, did anyone ever find a replacement part or a fix for the laser curtain? Now that I know what to do, I dint really want to send it to Skytrak and pay like $300-400 to have it fixed if there was a $100 part I could install myself.
          Please let me know.
          Thanks

Thanks for the info. I hope I don’t have to do this. But if I do, it should be much easier with the pics.

Several SkyTrak owners have used the information in this thread to repair their own units successfully. Asking the generous folks here for a more detailed, step-by-step guide is asking a bit much.

Rapsodo clearly doesn't like this. I can see where they are coming from. While sharing tear-downs is not illegal (if it was, ifixit wouldn't be around), they probably don't appreciate having the guts of the unit publicly posted.

There are also safety concerns, which prompted to Batuhan himself to post in your group. I can see where he is coming from as well. This process is really like doing your own house wiring, or fixing your own brakes on your car. It is not for everybody. It is for those who understand and accept the risk, and have sufficient skill to complete the job.

I see people bringing up "swapping the laser curtain" in trouble shooting threads far too early in the process. There are lots of other causes, and while a fair number have successfully pulled it off, if it becomes too widespread by too many people without basic electronics skills, eventually there will be problems. The laser diodes are indeed EMS sensitive. I have blown out a few of my hobby laser diodes that way.

My concern, as always, is that mine will burn out after the ST is no longer supported. Given the recent upsurge in sales, I am sure that date is much farther away than I had estimated earlier.

Having said that, clearly a lot of these fail out of warranty period. The MTTF of this part does not seem to be what it should. It would be a nice gesture to extend warranty or otherwise compensate those whose units are made useless by this.

I just noticed that the picture (that says "SWITCH THEM" in jmfeno's post, is of the alignment lasers, not the laser curtain. Wrong lasers. No idea why it would work fine swapping those. The alignment lasers have no internal function. I think the lesson here is that don't do anything unless you are absolutely certain you know what you are doing. Also, that if you use information off the internet, you get what you pay for.

                    Hi Morini,

I followed the guidelines provided in this post. Firstly, I switched the lasers curtains (Picture 1 of the firsts post) but for any reason it didn't work, after several tests I decided to switch also the alignament lasers (as an additional step), and then it worked and its working right since then. I don't know why, probably was an accident or I was lucky, but my intention just was to share my experience trying to fix my skytrak.

Obviously this is not an ideal solution, is much better the skytrak is fixed by technical experts, but with the current situation with the Covid19, and living in Spain with my skytrak warranty expired, and the long time to send and return the skytrak to be repaired I decided to take the risk.

My apologies, I never wanted to confuse anyone telling that only switching laser alignaments was enough.

                    Thanks for your clarification

Point well taken, thank you guys for the reply,
I'll wait until they open back for normal business, in the mean time I'll try to play on Lh with the unit on my stands,
My post was out desperation based on the four months waiting quotation I got from the technical service, but indeed as Morini indicated, with out basic electronic skills this endeavor will end up in failure,
                  Thanks once again

A less than ideal solution while you are waiting is to use it in leftie mode, just be careful.

You think you have a source? I am now nervous about my purchase, I love the Skytrak but hate having to send things in for repair. I would rather be able to order and have one one hand for easy replacement when needed.

I have a buddy who is an electrical engineer and he swapped the laser curtains and it wasn’t calibrated so I bit the bullet and sent it in to have them fix it.

It cost me $300 to get mine fixed and now it works great. Still not happy that I had to have it fixed but I’m back in business nonetheless.

Same problem, switched the 2 curtains, right handed now working. Just be careful with the tiny screws, they strip easily. Take your time.
