Recent Skytrak Satisfaction

I’ve had my Skytrak for 1.5 years. It rarely misses a shot and I think it’s accurate when you cut it a bit of slack for price. I’ve hit mine outside to watch shape and inside with Trackman and it’s not perfect but it’s darn good.

Is a GC2 better. Sure but I’d personally struggle to pay that much for one right now. While it’s proven and solid it’s old technology at this point. I’m holding out for a unit that’s around $5k that does good ball and club data before I upgrade as the little gain I may see in accuracy isn’t worth a huge increase in cost.

Mine rarely no reads ads and occasionally I get a shot I think “that can’t be right” but it’s always left which is my miss so it could be me. I think it over exaggerates offline but worst case that makes me a bit tighter dispersion wise on the course.

My only real point of annoyance is the lack of software update. I don’t think the $100 per year is as painful as some others but I’ve been wanting better integration with r-motion and the estimated club data which seems light years off with the delays on the basics.

Ball speed is probably my biggest concern with purchasing skytrak as my swing speed is around 110 (265-270 carry) with driver which I’m estimating ball speed of 160ish. Will Skytrak just under report higher ball speeds or will it max out in the low 150s (which could lead to greater discrepancies?

Here’s a video I took yesterday of our club pro on the range with SkyTrak and range balls. Each of his 30 or so shots measured between 158-164 ball speed, 108-110 CH speed, and carried 265-275, which he said was spot on to what he expects on course.

Your pro out on the range saying his ball flight matches up is not what anyone is talking about. SkyTrak measures 150+ ball speed slow compared to GC2 and Trackman. It's not a made up narrative--SkyTrak has admitted as much.

The fact the club pro said right at the end of the video: "That's pretty impressive for a range ball" tells me the ST might be a bit generous unless this guy is used to several more yards of carry and distance with tour balls. lol

Me too! Besides minor connecting issues the first two sessions, it’s been working great. I’m acctually looking forward to the winter.

Update- Very pleased with the performance of the Skytrak so far! Very few misreads and carry numbers seem to be fairly close to real life. I've hit 160 mph ball speeds which would be what i expect (maybe a touch under but negligible) , and shot shape seems acceptable. For $1700 the unit is fairly inexpensive and can definitely keep the game from getting to rusty in the winter months. It's not perfect but at 25% of the cost of the gc2, its pretty damn good. Only used the skytrak range so far so cannot speak to putting in TGC or E6 but overall I think the large majority of people would enjoy the purchase. Indoor swing is a real thing, took me about 50 balls or so (maybe a few gin and tonics as well) to get my speed back to normal. Plan on purchasing TGC19 soon, hope to see you guys on the tour. Thanks to all who have contributed on this forum, it helps the newbs like myself tremendously!
