  • Do You Really Need That Much Length from SkyTrak to Net?

I'm getting a shed at some point but was prepping my patio for arrival of SkyTrak...NetReturn just arrived I was looking at a shed that's 12 X 24 with a 10 foot plus ceiling. It doesn't seem like 24' in length is really needed. Maybe it's just an illusion because I'm outside but I'm thinking 15' shed in length would be enough.

    Any thoughts?

For SkyTrak if you can swing a club you’ve got enough room for the unit to work. I have 6’ from ball to net as I have the net return pro mini so I want to be close so nothing goes over.

What feels comfortable to swing freely will vary by person.

Ah...very true. I worked at Golfsmith for something to do and hit ball in the bays when customers weren't around. At first I thought it was a waste of space to have such big bays but quickly heard customers complain they couldn't hit indoors very well. Huh??? As a retired pilot cramped spaces never bothered me. I loved hitting in those bays for hours at a time using a GC2 when the store was empty. Guess that's why GS went out of business.

        Need no

        want yes
go as big as your pocket book and space will alliw

and then paint it all black

you really want the walls and ceiling to be far enough away and dark
to allow for the freest swing possible

at least in my Humble opinion
        10 foot 10 high 15 deep at a minimium
        and
the width in my opinion is more critical 15 is better
20 is great and 25 30 for left n right play ideal

my rooms right only and 10 foot
I find it too small but it’s all I’ve got

OK...it must've been the illusion of hitting outside then. I'll probably go down to the shed place over the weekend and swing the driver inside and make sure I've got plenty of room with 12' width.

You're right about the black. I've never seen a hitting bay that wasn't. I was thinking of putting in black soundproofing material since I live in a subdivision and don't want neighbors hearing a loud noise every minute or so.

In a right or left hand only sim
            12 should be ok

i find 10 cramped but doabel

just be careful I find that what you can get away with isn’t always the best thing for your practice or your swing

so while I have a sim I limit myself in the 10 foot space to irons and maybe a fairway metal

but go to a full size pro room to swing driver on the weekends off season

i find swinging in the smallish space hurts more than it helps

When the walls go up it feels cramped in a hurry. The subconscious effect can really mess with your swing.

Plus you want room for people and stuff!

Making do with something is one thing, buying too small is another. I'd find 15 ft shed length much too short. 20 maybe ok, 24 sounds about right. 12 ft width sounds narrow but doable if willing to hit offset and only left or right. Are these inside or outside dimensions?

Yep...inside. Guess I’ll stick with 12 x 24 then. Got the net and iPad stand. FB mat on Tuesday and Skytrak on Thursday unless I can figure out how to get it from UPS before then. Crazy...ST is only an hour and a half from here but not scheduled for 4 more days.

Everyone is different so it may not affect you one bit. I would say most are affected to some degree, often subconsciously. Unless cost is an issue, safer to go big, so good choice.

Okay...almost 3 months later and the shed is on it's way. HOA has a rule against sheds but EVERYONE has one. I talked to both neighbors, who also have a shed and told them my idea. They said no problem. One does play golf a few times a year so I promised to invite him over to use the sim. He did ask about the noise. Told him the walls will be insulated, sheetrock and foam type noise dampening material on the sheetrock. Shouldn't be THAT loud, should it?

The shed will be 12 wide and 20 long. I got inside the model with my club and it looks like they'll be enough room for a couch, etc., so others can sit and relax while someone else is hitting. I'll set up the Net Return and Fiberbuilt mat with plenty of room to spare. It'll have the barn style roof and they'll move the support beams at install so I can swing away with driver down to wedge. The cross beams will be great because I'll search around for an overhead projector that puts out a quality picture without breaking the bank. I'll add the Home Screen for $250...no prob. Can I get a good projector for less than 500?

This is very true. I have a good 15' or so of width, but the garage door railing is above and behind me and once or twice I hit it with my driver on the follow through. I began to subconsciously adjust me swing and eventually when I put swing cameras it I noticed that I was now swinging shallower than Rickie Fowler. I ended up shortening and moving the tracks slightly. I still have to battle the subconscious feeling that I have to avoid it, I may end up resetting the whole garage door rails at a higher height just to get it out of the back of my mind even though I don't hit it anymore.

Hum...maybe I'll go in later today or in the morning with my driver and make sure 12' wide works for sure. Maybe I didn't enough variations in swing the first time. It does seem like the hitting bays at 2nd Swing were 12 feet wide or so when I went to measure and never had a problem hitting in there. That would really suck to spend 5G's on a shed that half ass works for me.
