  • Used Skytraks

    HI everyone

Looks like Mevo + is going to kill skytrak, i think they've got about 6 months to release some serious updates.

Used skytraks are already starting to appear for sale everywhere, people might be lucky to get 1K for them from now on.

5 years was a good stretch, ES16 plus might also get it right and EVENTUALLY be a killer at 2.5K

Things are starting to get hot.

Competition is good, bring it on.

If my skytrak gives me any trouble, failed laser or whatever, being in uk, doesn't make sense to ship it to US to fix anymore.
I'll just dump it and get a mevo+.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread, but you are exaggerating greatly.

Maybe or maybe not, only time (6 months) will tell.

I love my skytrak, but i really think they've got 6 months to get back, swing catalyst not needed with mevo+ either.

First thing skytrak could do is get rid of the annual subscriptions, and open the thing up so people get the best out of it.
They won't do it, and just like skypro, skytrak will most probably be replaced by skytrak 2 next year.

If i'm wrong, nothing changes, if i'm right, everyone will probably just switch to the next best thing, which is coming sooner rather that later.

New member here but have been a longtime lurker since I bought a skytrak last Christmas and have slowly built a garage set up to be able to actually play sim golf and not just do the game improvement package. I just wanted to give my opinion as to someone who own the original mevo and compare with the skytrak.

I was always a bit skeptical about my mevo numbers and hated that I did not know what type of flight the ball had hitting into a net and found a used skytrak on eBay for a really good price so I pulled the trigger. When I did a side by side test, the numbers were extremely close with wedges and shorter irons. I found when I got to the 5 iron down to driver the numbers on the mevo started varying greatly with the skytrak. Ball speed remained pretty close but spin and launch were much farther apart.

I am am not a long hitter with driver ball speeds ~ 140 so the skytrak suits my needs fine and have not found a real need for an update. While I know it has major limitations outdoors, that doesn’t bother me either because I don’t go to the range to practice. With all of that being said, I am waiting to hold judgement of the mevo+. I feel like they need to make big improvements over the original mevo just to be accurate enough with ball data in launch and spin when calculated at short distances. I also am curious as to how accurate the ball curvature will be on the mevo+. Again, there will have to be major leaps from the mevo to get me on board with mevo+.

With all of that being said, if it is shown to be comparable to skytraks accuracy at its minimum distance footprint, I would lean toward the mevo+. The reason would be ease of use in group use. I have just finished my garage set up for sim play and just played my first 18 with E6 today. It was very enjoyable by myself but I did have to move my skytrak because of hitting driver off of a Fiberbuilt flight deck. The rubber tees that I was using kept the driver from picking up with a little bit of sunlight coming in the window and we currently do not have a shade. So I had to use the retractable tee that comes with the flight deck but didn’t want to have to lift the deck and remove the tee before and after every drive. I instead had to move the skytrak at least twice every hole. I will take care of that issue buying a shade for the window, but that takes me back to ease of use playing with others. I am a lefty, so playing with my friends will mean moving the skytrak a lot. Mevo+ would be a game changer with a lefty in the group as far as ease of use. The better performance outdoors would be a bonus.

I am going to hold off on making a decision to go to the shiny new toy as the grass isn’t aalways greener but I will be watching closely to see how it all shakes out as well. Skytrak should continue to be fine, as many skytrak users may not have the required space the mevo+ needs. Competition is never a bad thing for consumers though.

Why do you say that? I may have missed it, but I understand that Mevo+ isn't compatible with sim. And also requires you to align a dot. If both of those statements are true, it's not very compelling (to me).

"The mevo + is the old xi adjusted for sim and more platform compatibilty with video analysis included."

To the ORDINARY home user the above statement means the same thing as:

"It is a complete new radar that measure on different frequencies, it measures in a different way and also has a totally different app and sim support. It also handles putts and sort chips which none of flightscopes other units do."

To me the MEVO is an updated Flightscope Xi at the same price point as the old xi.

"Skytrak 2 is not a Skytrak, its a completely new system using new technology".................Yes, its an Updated Skytrak.

well I think it is kind of misleading stating that a brand new product with totally different capabilities and features is an update when it is basically only that it is a radar based LM and the the brand that are the same.

For me it would be like saying that the Chevy Corvette is an update of the Impala. But we are all different, Corvette might be considered an upgrade of the Impala.

Exactly, i'm a home user, on a sim forum, not a radar engineer stating facts.............relax and enjoy, its all good.

The mevo+ is currently compatible with e6 connect and will be compatible with TGC very soon. And the e6 comes free with the Mevo+. That's a real skytrak killer.

There is a thread on this already... However in the interest of clarifying... Mevo+ Comes with iOS and PC Sim bundle for E6 Connect with 5 courses and a slew of ranges. It does not have the full E6 Package.

To further clarify: the E6 Connect bundled with the Mevo+ runs only on iOS, not PC. They will soon be announcing pricing for the PC E6 packages.

SkeetShooter At the show, one of Par2Pro's videos shows MEVO+ running off of a laptop. It's just not in production yet.

games That's correct, they were running a beta version of E6 Connect on PC at the show, but when they do release that, it's expected to be an additional cost license.

Hey Ron, I contacted FS support yesterday. It sounds like they will be charging something (they wouldn't say what) for people who use PC's for the E6 side of the software... They would not clarify if it would be a 1-time cost or a subscription. Cant wait to see your comparison between ST and Mevo. Can you be sure to test Driver as well as iron's? On ST, High ball speeds have a bit of an issue with Driver. I also see some fall off with my 3w as I'm mid-150's-low 160's

Interesting trends over the past few days. Purely anecdotal observations, but definite trends taking shape. Current sales of used FS units (X2, Xi and variants) are up on the bay. However sales of used SkyTraks have definitely increased here and in Facebook marketplace.

I think the used market will take a hit, but not as much as you think. There will still be lots of people that are limited on space and want to use it only indoors.

                Hi

I think skytrak will feel the heat from the es14 and mlm from rapsodo, as these units include a shot tracer now.

Mevo+ needs 16ft (4.8m), Skytrak you need 10ft (3m) min to swing a club. I don't think this will affect too many home users.

I love my Skytrak, but they company has to step up.

Mevo+ won't need repairs like laser replacement and for world users shipping to the US just to replace a battery is very costly.

1k for a used Skytrak that's the new sweet spot I see for it and a really really good golf buy it is.
