Spin rates for non premium ball are joke

Hi to all. I've had Skytrak about three months now and kind of enjoy it, but like tittle says. Spin rates are totally off.

Spin rates for 9i and shorter clubs, if using non premium ball are really a joke.
Like my 9i is 3000-4000!!!????. That can't be true. If I use like 7i. Spin is about 5000. It's low for me, but much closer to normal.

If I use premium ball for 9i, my spin is 8000-9000 and those are very similar to my trackman numbers.
And I know I'm kind of high spin player, especially with irons.

So why Skytrak get those numbers? I'm decent player, not hacker.
Otherwise I would'n care spin that much, but it affect distance very much and for 9i it can be over 10 meters with those numbers.

I know that. But how can it be possible that I spin with 9i less than with my 4i with non premium ball.
9i spin 3500. 4i spin 4500 with same non premium ball. That just doesn't make sence.

I suspect it’s the ball is making that big of a difference.

I live in a wet climate so winter you get a lot of plugged tee shots and lost balls so I ordered a bunch of Bridgestone e6s used that were super cheap. What I’ve found on the course is they go roughly the same difference with driver but it’s a different game with irons.

I hit the e6s about 2 clubs longer than a ProV1 with my short irons and 1 club longer with long irons. I Spent time comparing when I had 105 from the fairway which is a perfect SW for me. I hit it well and the e6 flew 120 and landed at the back of the green. I dropped a ProV1 and hit struck it roughly the same and it landed pin high. The e6 was basically a flier out of a fairway. I was amazed so tested a lot after that.

I used an on course example (and it’s not a one off I actually know my adjusted yardages now) to take the launch monitor out of it. I see spin drop by roughly half on my SkyTrak with these balls also. My 10k spin SW drops to 5-6k and actually with the e6 specifically I find they leave a residue on my clubs so after a handful of shots I can get SW registering 3-4K spin and I believe it.

Actually I did made very fast test today. Using prov1 and taylormade rocketball. Both were brand new from box.
I tried to hit some "half" 9i just to try keep it similar.

You can see spin rates, but also lauch angle goes up with rocketball.
Every other shot it prov1/rocketball

I think I focused in on you saying spin dropped a ton with lesser balls (which makes total sense to me). I may have glazed past your 7 iron spinning more than 9 iron.

With the same ball and a decent sample size it seems weird you’d see a huge spin drop going from 7 to 9 iron. I see spin drop a ton with a poor quality ball but not inverse on clubs. I’m not shocked you get the occasional super low spinner (and I even get the occasional one with a premium ball that is clearly a misread as my 7 iron doesn’t carry 220 which I’ve seen due to a crazy spin reading).

I use Kirkland 3 piece balls in my sim because they spin a lot but are still cheap. I play ProV1 and find the mat drops their spin a bit relative to grass but the Kirkland spins too much on grass so off the mat I get back close to my normal grass numbers.

You can't compare spin numbers without comparing strike/impact location, no matter what club is used.

Ceedee best way to test is take Skytrak to outdoor range hit balls and view results.

Your indoor swing may differ from your outdoor swing. Also your hitting surface may make a lot of difference. I've noticed that I tend to not hit down on the ball as steeply indoors as I do on a regular golf course.

I have to use 2 piece garbage uneekor balls and here is the difference when i use a Maxfli tour X 4 piece ball

If you don't think a premium ball makes a big difference, you are crazy.

Funny thing is, up to 7 iron the spin is very similar from either ball then the 2 piece falls off a cliff at 8 iron and up.

look at the difference in ball speed. if i hit the crap ball that hard it would have carried 165 lol. If you're playing a course after a 3 days downpour, bring some 2 piece with you and you can use a club less every approach shot

Non-premium balls are so “slippery” they just slide up the face of higher lofted clubs and produce little spin. The lower the loft, the last chance of sliding up the face, so the spin will be closer to a premium ball. Very, very normal and the results would be similar to outside reading under similar conditions.

edit: same thing for GC2, which I have, and Trackman, which my teacher has.
