  • The Golf Club 2019 vs. E6 Connect

I have had my SkyTrak for a little over a year now and have enjoyed the practice as well as playing WGT with my iPad. After E6 came out with the iOS version and 30-day demo, it seemed pretty good but I wanted a little more out of the graphics. I started digging deeper and now realized that I can actually play the Windows version on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp.

Now that I realized that the Windows versions are opened up to me, I am trying to decide between E6 and The Golf Club 2019. I can demo E6 and get a good feel for what it is, however, I can't demo TGC.

E6 Connect is $300/year and TGC 2019 is a one-time purchase of close to $1000. Long-term, I think TGC 2019 is a better deal although since there is no demo version, I need to rely on everyone's comments to make a decision. Does anyone have any opinions of comparing the two if you have played both or what made your decision to chose one over the other?

One of the things that really appeals to me about TGC 2019 is the ability to design your own courses. I am a member of a Country Club here in Japan that allows me to play about 8 of its sister courses and I thought it would be pretty cool to design those courses, even in a relatively simplistic form, and be able to practice those courses. This should be good at least for working on course strategy. What is everyone's opinion of this? Has anyone done this? Is it more work than it is worth?

    Cheers,

    Stephen

I've had the e6 Connect demo for weeks and TGC2019 for a day now. If it weren't for being able to play many of my local courses with TGC I would choose e6 Connect. Connect feels more like real golf to me.

I have to say, I agree completely
If they fix the spin on the greens , they'll have it nailed IMO...

Just feels like real golf, I don't see any crazy stuff ever while playing that make me shake my head.

TGC2019 feels like and is a $20 golf game for consoles with a $1000 feature (launch monitor support) wedged in.

    E6 connect is $2500 PLUS $300 a year.

TGC2019 has more courses. probably more players, subjectively better graphics.

E6 connect has better game play(more players, more customizable settings, etc)

The gap between them will close if E6 Connect decreases their price(right now its just 2 completely different price points) and they continue to improve their product(making new courses, fixing game play issues(ball spin on greens is unrealistic)

Protee doesn't update or improve the software ever, so eventually TGC2019 will only have the price and # of courses as a benefit.

NO, for SkyTrak users, E6 Connect is $300/yr for Basic or $600/yr for Expanded on PC. You have the OPTION to get Expanded for $2,500 one-time. You're a Uneekor user, so the mistake is understandable as that's the pricing for you, but we're in the SkyTrak subforum here.

As a skytrak user you are able to sub for the year to E6 connect which is great. You could buy TGC and sub to E6 then decide in a year which you enjoy more. I wish I could sub to E6 for the year, I'd do it in a heartbeat. They are negotiable with the price but it's still double what TGC 2019 cost.

I believe that there was some misinformation about the cost on E6 and my understanding is that it is just $300/year and there is no $2,500 fee up-front. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Correct. I asked why skytrak users get to sub annually and everyone else has to pay a crazy upfront fee and they told me skytrak buys a bulk amount of licenses up front so they're able to offer it at the price they do.

Now I have to found out how to get uneekor buy a bunch of license so I can play for cheap also

E6 Connect $2500 one time payment but only 27 golf courses vs TGC 2019 $1000 one time payment 170,000 courses and a course designer.

I played the E6 demo about a year ago and quite liked it, although the demo at the time had some weird chipping glitches going on.

Visually and playability wise I liked E6 a bit better than TGC2019.
E6 @$300 a year comes with about 30 courses but additional courses are pricey.

2019 has a zillion courses, many of them beautifully created, (or recreated) but 2019 has some pretty major bugs that haven't been fixed even a little since its release a year ago, which shows a lack of concern or interest of the makers of 2019, which makes me wonder whether its just been left in the dust. 2019's updates since its release have all been about tournament play and getting new stylish outfits for your little avatar. Whoopee. The mechanics of the original TGC were substantially better than 2019. Its hard to fathom why they paid so little attention to the mechanics and playability that they'd already figured out in the previous version.

But yeah, I can select custom hair tints and bro grooming beards for my paper doll avatar.....

If I was picking one out today I might go with E6 because of 2019's lack of bug fixes (of bugs that weren't there in the previous version). And a company that has major bugs and ignores them for over a year doesn't inspire much confidence.

2019's lack of updates/bug fixes is starting to wear on my nerves. If the original TGC didn't have better gameplay and mechanics it wouldn't irritate me so much, but they actually made the game worse??
Does it take a crack team of coders weeks to make the freekin' "F" (or "C") key put/remove the flag stick??? And the amazing lowshot/freekish big bounce that 2019 is blessed with that TGC didn't have? How about making the "E" key work again??

I think they've just decided to let it decay.

Why not ask on hb studios forums to see if they are planning on fixing any of these problems in TGC2019 that we’re not there in TGC?

Based upon what I have seen so far (YouTube videos), the volume of courses, the one-time purchase cost vs. annual fees, and the ability to design your own courses, I decided to go with TGC + TGC 2019 combo pack offered by SkyTrak. I haven't had a chance to try this out on the ST but based upon what I have seen with pre-shot flyovers and other things, the graphics looks very good, even running on Boot Camp.

will try this out shortly and report back here.

I wouldn't waste your money on getting the original TGC - you'll never want to play it once you've played '19.

Am I reading this wrong? "With E6 CONNECT, users can subscribe for access to the entire E6 Library of content. Users can subscribe for a Basic Subscription that provides new content each month or the Expanded Subscription that will provide access to the entire library of content in the E6 CONNECT library.* Subscriptions are not mandatory. (4) New 4K Courses Added Each Year." Sounds like to me any other LM BESIDES Skytrak can just pay the $2500 1 time for 27 courses. This doesn't get you any online stuff, but would be good for local play.

SkyTrak users can also choose to pay $2,500 one time for 27 courses, but you won't get new courses or online play without the sub. You will get lifetime updates to the app and game engine.

Quick update. I have had TGC 2019 for about a month with my SkyTrak and, wow, am I blown away. The graphics area phenomenal and there are so many courses, you can never get tired of them. I have also been playing around with the LiDAR tool to replicate a few of my home courses back in the US and they are extremely realistic. It is also really fun to spend hours designing the course that you can play indefinitely.

I would highly recommend TGC 2019 to pair with the SkyTrak or any other launch monitor.

I think TGR is head and shoulders above E6. I have tried the E6 demo over 20 different times and imo it doesn't even compare with TGC. I think the graphics on TGR are just absolutely beautiful and the gameplay is spot on.

The E6 software evolved from software originally developed for PC (Links, Links 386, Microsoft Golf, ...) - software that we've had for many years. So when we purchased our SkyTrak, it was an easy decision to get E6. But while we had one of our golf courses with the earlier Links software, E6 wanted a very high price to purchase a course add-on that would include one of the courses we play often.

When TGC 2019 came out and our E6 subscription came up for renewal, we looked at E6 Connect, which was bundling our course in with the standard subscription. However, the number of courses is still relatively limited compared to TGC 2019.

So we jumped to TGC 2019 - and then spent time to use LIDAR data to our club's 4 courses to TGC 2019. And playing those courses in TGC 2019 is close to the experience of playing the real courses. Though it would help if TGC 2019 provided better support in a few areas (hazard markers, drop zones, ...).

While the one-time purchase of TGC 2019 is relatively expensive, once you've done that, you don't need to pay each year to continue using it.

And there are many great courses in the huge TGC course library that's used by SkyTrak users plus people playing the game on PCs (from Steam) and video game systems.

Hi All - Sorry for digging up an older thread if there is another more current one out there. It looks like folks expected a lot of improvements over the year - does anyone have opinions on TGC vs E6 today? I'm going to go with one or the other in the next few days and it's a big purchase so I want to cover all of my bases. Thanks!
