  • SkyTrak YouTube video showing club data?

I found a YouTube video from 5 months ago showing club path and face to path data. The presenter said it was close but not ready for prime time. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know anything about this, and if it’s real and/or coming soon? Hardware upgrade, software upgrade? Makes a difference if considering the SkyTrak versus Mevo+.

The were working with some other companies at one point a few years ago to hopefully integrate their club data. They did say they were working on their own club data which is based off ball data calculations like ES Tour Pro does. Many engineers believe with the full ball data they can accurately calculate the path and face working backward from the data points like spin axis and launch etc. Most of them also agree the only way to actually measure the club data would be to have stickers on the club being tracked.

TGC2019 displays club data for Skytrak calculated from the ball data, just like a98cr125 described. So I guess you could define that as a "software upgrade." I'm not familiar with the YouTube link that you referenced (got a link?) but my guess is that it's likely calculated in a similar way.

Nope. Like I said, it doesn't actually measure the club itself. It takes the ball data and then sort of reverse engineers it to predict what the club was doing at impact in order to produce that ball flight.

I know it's hard to say, but would you consider it fairly accurate? Would you get data that is reasonably accurate enough to justify the further cost?

Most people agree that it is quite accurate. I believe people have even tested it against systems that actually measure cub data and have found it to be quite consistent.

      Here's the YouTube link.

As an update, I called SkyTrak today, and the person on the phone acknowledged that they are working on those data points. He said that it would be a software release, and the release would happen within the next 12 months at the latest. Having dealt with software developers in the past, I say to take that with a grain of salt. However, if it does happen, and it's accurate, that's a major benefit over the Mevo+, in my opinion. For the price point this would add incredible value.

Hmm ... I thought the Mevo+ driving range displayed some club data. No?

The Mevo+ measures and displays (in the FS apps) the following club data: clubhead speed, angle of attack, and spin loft.

I moved from SkyTrak to Mevo+ and I’ve had a number of chats the Flightscope also.

Gung-ho covered what’s there today. I’ve been told by FS support path and face is doable but unlikely (because of X3 differentiator was implied but not said). The CEO in one of the webinars eluded to adding path and face to Mevo+ but no details or firm promise. I’m hoping it happens even if for a fee but we’ll see.

I tried integrating an R-motion with my SkyTrak before I changed and for a bunch of reasons it fell short of my expectations.

They've had calculated club data in their product for a couple of years, but have never exposed it in the interface (except in an old beta version). My Advanced Analytics for SkyTrak cloud-based web app exposes this calculated club data, and my upcoming new version for SkyTrak v3.4.x uses more advanced algorithms to display even more club data.

Calculating club data (path, face, AoA and Dyn Loft) from ball launch data is actually quite accurate, if you assume center-face contact (gear effect will throw off the calculations). In particular, looking at the numbers in aggregrate (averages over a session) gives you a really good idea of what your club is doing.

As gungho says, accurate if struck center face. And yes, should be looked at in the aggregate to determine tendencies. I would not use ball data derived club data on a swing by swing basis to make swing changes etc.

For driver, you can figure out face and path for center face impact by using the fact that direction is 85% face & 15% path and doing some simple algebra.
