  • SkyTrak is stuck in "Discovering" and I've tried everything?

    Hi Everyone,

Hoping you can all help me... So I have had my SkyTrak since Dec 2019, running off an iPad. No issues at all.

Have now switched to a gaming laptop (a new Dell G5). But I can't get my SkyTrak connected in Direct Mode as a first step to go to the Network Connection.

In Direct Mode I connect to the SkyTrak wifi but it then just keeps on"Discovering" until the SkyTrak auto switches off after about 10 minutes.

    I have tried:

    - Deleted the SkyTrak App from my iPad so there was no interference
    - Reset my home router
    - Hard resets on the SkyTrak unit
    - Reinstalled the 64 bit SkyTrak download on my PC several times
    - (Even tried installing the 32 bit SkyTrak download)
    - Reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 several times
    - Deleted my SkyTrak cache on the PC
    - Switched off all McAfee security and firewall on the PC

Really hoping someone can help me. Having been reading other forums where guys have had similar issues... but can't find a solution that works for me. Been at this for 3 nights now...

    Thanks!!!

    Try these instructions: https://gunghogolf.com/articles/skyt...ction-problems

Also make sure your iPad doesn't have the SkyTrak Wifi still saved in it, it may be trying to connect even though the SkyTrak app has been deleted from it. Turn off Wifi on the iPad to make sure. Only one device can connect to the SkyTrak's wifi signal (Direct Mode) at a time.

Really appreciate you trying to hep me on this one Ron, I know you have a lot of knowledge and experience.

Cleared everything off the iPad, and shut down the iPad just to be safe... still no luck connecting. It's really weird because the PC is connecting to the SkyTrak wifi, and the SkyTrak lights are green, red, red so it is waiting to complete the the Direct connection but just keeps on "Discovering" and searching for a connection.

To try and resolve systematically, I went through all these steps again and still no luck, I can get connected to SkyTrak wifi and it it is stuck in Discovering:

      - Deleted the SkyTrak downloadon my PC
      - Deleted my SkyTrak cache on the PC
      - Hard resets on the SkyTrak unit
      - Reset my home router
      - Reinstalled the 64 bit SkyTrak download on my PC (and reinstalled reinstalled Microsoft Visual C++ 2012)

Attached a couple of photo's of status when it is in "Discovering"

(And finally, what is really crazy, last weekend I set up my buddies brand new SkyTrak at his house on a different but same model PC (Dell G5) which we bought at the same time, with no hassles - and I did the test set-up at my house on my wifi so no issues with that. His SkyTrak and PC are out of my house now and in house. I could connect his first time in Direct Mode, and then onto Network was simple - so I have a good basic knowledge and SkyTrak and how to get this done generally. Really seems that something is messing up my SkyTrak now that I am moving from an iPad to PC, but can't figure out what that could be and what I have not already reset or reloaded to try and resolve that)

I'm open to trying anything and everything. It's the only way I can get to use it again and use TGC19

        Have you tried USB mode?

Yeah USB is my Plan B, but would like to get it running in Direct & Network Mode without the cable connected.

Just out of curiosity, what's the big deal about the cable? Is the computer really far away from the skytrak or something?

Moving the SkyTrak for lefty’s and righty’s with the cable attached its a bit more tricky to ensure that the cable stays out of the way. With no cable it is as easy as pick it up and put it down on the opposite side.

Sounds like a pain. Could you setup network mode from the ipad? Then try network mode from PC?

I found that for wifi networking I had to put a hardwired wifi Access Point about 6 ft away from the Skytrak. I just shared of my experience in this thread: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-win-10-laptop. Something you could try is bringing your Skytrak close to your wifi router (6 ft or less), and see if it can re-sync itself. I did that when I first got the Skytrak and let it sit for about 30 minutes until it re-synced some internal state. After that it started working better, but then I had a lot of disconnections, as mentioned in the other thread.

Tried moving the router into the same room instead of using the router in the adjacent room. But no difference.

Have been starting the Direct connection (PC to SkyTrak wifi) and then just leave them to see if the two will eventually sync and discover each other... but each time the SkyTrak I guess just times out and eventually just switches off.

Have you tried turning off any security features, also turn off your firewall, on the pc? It can see the skytrak so to me its blocking the connection in some way. If you are using direct then obviously router settings, which also can cause issues, is not the problem.

An update, still haven't solved this problem. I switched off all the Windows Defender settings and all the McAfee settings and the SkyTrak will still not connect in Direct mode.

What makes it crazy is that I set-up a different SkyTrak and new Windows 10 laptop last night for a friend in my house on my wifi network .The SkyTrak was brand new out of the box, and his laptop is the same as what I have. I got the the Direct / Network set-up first time with no issue at all.

I am really convinced that in going from using my SkyTrak on an iPad and now trying to set-up my same SkyTrak on my new PC something has gone a bit wrong internally.

This weekend I am going to take my laptop and my friends laptop and go over every single setting to see if anything is different... and which could be causing my SkyTrak not to connect in Direct mode.

Twice before I’ve had to switch WiFi etc and had issues doing direct. Both times it required me to do the pinhole reset - and this was the key part - walk outside far enough from my router so it couldn’t reconnect. Then it goes into the regular direct broadcast mode.

Any chance you have a USB Wi-Fi adapter laying around? Might be worth trying that instead of the internal PC Wi-Fi. But I've never seen this before and it looks like you've already gone through everything I can think of!

Compared the two laptops running the two SkyTraks, identical Dells, and I couldn't find any differences in the settings.

I was tempted to try run the other SkyTrak on my laptop, but was worried that in doing that I would also mess something up with his SkyTrak so decided not to do that crossover test.

Did install a USB-wifi adaptor as suggested on mine (found other forums explaining how to do that) to try and connect the SkyTrak to Wifi-2 which is the USB adaptor. Unfortunately the same outcome, I try kick-off Direct Mode, by first connecting the laptop to the SkyTrak wifi, but just keeps on Discovering in the SkyTrak app so can't go any further. If I could have completed the Direct connection I would then have connected the SkyTrak to the the Wifi-2.

Attached photos shows the two laptops and two SkyTraks. The one on the right can only be connected in USB Mode...? As you can see in Direct Mode the farthest I can get is one green light and two read lights... and status is "Discovering"

I think the purpose of using the USB wifi adapter is to use that to direct connect the SkyTrak instead of using the computer wifi. I might be misunderstanding what you did, but try to connect the adapter to the SkyTrak wifi signal for direct mode to bypass the way you have been doing it. Leave the computer connected to your normal wifi.

Total longshot, but when I installed NordVpn I could no longer connect to Skytrak. Even when it was closed, and as far as I could tell fully shut down. I uninstalled, and sure enough, Skytrak connected. Maybe something similar in your case.
