  • SkyTrak v4.0 Beta

    Hi Everyone,

Before we do a full rollout of v4.0, I’d like to let the forum test drive it. The release notes are pretty self-explanatory, but do take note of the graphics quality options found in the in-game settings. We initially set it automatically based on your device’s graphics capabilities, but feel free to play around to find the best combination of graphics/performance.

A lot has changed with Apple and Google since our last release. Apple has discontinued support for the original iPad Air and will not allow it to upgrade to iOS 13. Because of this, we will not be able to offer the v4.0 upgrade and beyond to original iPad Air. For Google, as of November any app updates must meet new requirements for Android 10, so many older devices will not be able to run v4.0 and beyond.

    V4.0 Release Notes

    - Improved Range Graphics
    - Improved Tracers
    - Improved Camera Views
    - Limited supported characters in Profile Name
    - Restricted Altitude and temperature to realistic values
    - Fixed duplicate club bug in Bag Management
    - Fixed Bag Mapping bug in offline mode
    - Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements

    Some quick thoughts:

    1) My bag stats only populated the driver. I'll check the next time I practice to see if it just takes some time
    2) The Follow Ball looks different. The camera angle looks to be further from the ball. I preferred the previous look but I'm sure I will get used to it.

Definitely give your bag more time to sync. Let me know after the next software launch if it hasn't pulled down and displays correctly.

I tested it last night and it worked fine for me, though I didn't test any of the bag mapping. My laptop is a few years old, with a Radeon R5 display adapter, and it selected Medium-low graphics after doing its self test. I changed it to Medium graphics and it still worked fine. I'm at HD resolution into a 50" (old) plasma TV.

One thing I wish I could do (I'm probably late to the party WRT wanted features) is to label the wedges in the club selection. For example, change the labels from '52 Wedge' to 'GW - 1/2 swing 2" choke', 'SW - 3/4 swing 4" choke', etc. That way I could track more conveniently how much carry average I'm getting in my pitch & chip shots. But to be useful this kind of wedge labeling would need to carry over to the SkyGolf360 where one can review practice sessions, so there's more difficulty in implementing, I imagine... As the release currently sands, I can still do it... I just need to write down my little table saying "54 Wedge" really means to me '56 wedge, 1/2 swing, 2" choke'. It would just be convenient if one could edit the labels.

But, the beta 4.0 has worked fine for me. Nothing to report.

Cool, thanks for the feedback! Hmm, could you just create those wedges in your custom bag? Though I guess it would be too many to actually fit in the bag with the different swing lengths. But you're right, re-naming of the standard club types would be a mess on the server side keeping track of what is what.

Yeah, I thought of the bag mapping, but there wouldn't be enough slots for all my permutation of wedges and 1/2 swing, 3/4 swing, 2" choke, 4" choke, etc. LOL... I'll do my little translation table.

The graphics on the driving range are nice but the camera angles are real weird. I feel like the tracer lines are a little too thick. I use a PC with a projector and impact screen. The graphics auto set to maximum. I noticed the interface hangs a bit when I change sessions settings.

I always used the follow ball view in v3 and I prefer the way it used to look over v4. In v4 it looks really strange. It follows the ball from way too high and makes the flight look super flat. I like how the old version stayed in 1st person view for a bit then started following the ball so you could really feel how you launched it like on a real range then it would follow so you could watch it land. Your old range was actually pretty prefect and much better than some of your more expensive competitors. The new follow ball view is is really quite bad.

Dynamic is okay but I find the sparkling ball distracting. The first half of dynamic is good but then it zooms into the ball and spins around to see it land from the other side which I don't dig.

Honestly if these camera changes are final I would just keep using v3 since there are no real features in v4.

Those are my thoughts as well. I prefer the follow view in 3.4.2 over this new follow view. I get no sense of launch angle in the beta version.

Panther you need to sign up for the beta test on the Skytrak app screen in the Google play store, once you do that after a little time, it will offer an app update to v4

It worked well for me and overall I’m digging the graphical improvements. Some specific thoughts:

Agree with others on the Follow view. I’d get used to it but it does make every shot seem really flat.

Same with the sparkling end to the Dynamic and Downrange views.

I like the 45 Degree View better than before. I’m not sure exactly what has changed to it but it seems to have more depth.

I ask for this every release, and this is no different: Carry only option for random targets, target circles, and skills assessment. The latter would be very similar to Trackman Combine if it was.

That is a good idea. Probably best to apply it across the board to any activity. Let me see what it would take.

Thanks all for the comments on the camera angles and tracers. I totally can see that and we will make some adjustments to follow ball view to bring it back closer to what it was before (though I do think the new 45 degree view is much improved, both the angle and the dynamic zooming). I plan to do a quick follow-up release to v4.0 to take of any leftover bugs and make changes like have been suggested. But this feedback is exactly what we need to hear and thank you all for the very constructive comments.

I tried the beta for a couple of hours. Didn’t resolve the duplicate club issue for me. Seems like the update consists of a new background image for the range and revisions to the camera angles. The background is fine. The camera angle changes are brutal. It’s tough to imagine that someone tested them out and then said, “perfect...let’s roll these out.” The only good news is I won’t be missing much if I leave the shot optimizer screen up during range sessions.

In my opinion, the update reflects a strange prioritization of issues. There are a handful of things that users always complain about. This update did not address those issues and, instead, made changes to things that few people, if any, complain about. It’s also perplexing how this update took so long to roll out and why a beta is helpful. The updates are cosmetic, for the most part.

I'm going to send you a PM. There are so far 3 cases of this duplicate club issue which makes it nearly impossible to track down. I'd like to work with you offline if possible to get this sorted.

I think the new ball follow view is very similar to foresight software one. It was weird at first but you get used to it. The older ball follow view is actually a lot better imo, but it would be nice to have both options for v4.0

This release really seems to be cosmetic which is disappointing. Continual feedback is that the lack of 'spin decay' is the biggest frustration but this still has not been fixed. I was also looking forward to the big release 12 months ago related to club head data and the integration with SkyPro.
I fear we'll be able to change the colour of the ball before any significant developments. Would be great if SkyTrak could share their release plans for the next 12 months to give us an idea where the product is heading.

Spin decay is coming. Just couldn't get it in this release.

Does this mean my Ipad mini 2 wont be able to upgrade? I cant get past release 12.5 ios it seems. That would suck...

mini 2 is the same as iPad Air and is no longer being supported by Apple, unfortunately.
                      Working...
