Skytrak height on FiberBuilt mat

Set up my system today and One thing I struggled with is getting the skytrak in the protective case to the right height (ie level with the ball).

I’ve got the FB 7x4 so the skytrak sits in the metal case on the ‘extra’ piece of turf, the other side of the hitting strip from where I stand. At first I put the case feet in upside down as the instructions suggest and added the little caps. The level was a little off so I tried to adjust but I found the screws/caps just sunk into the FB matt and didn’t allow me to make any difference on the level. It was still off quite a bit so in the end I reversed the feet. I could now get the level exactly right but now the case / SkyTrak sits about half-inch higher that the hitting strip.

I actually felt my distances / angles were pretty reasonable like that, but I did get a lot of no-reads (around 33% going up to 75% of drivers).

Could an incorrect height lead to no-reads? Any suggestions for leveling with the feet switched round, or ways to prevent the screws going into the matt?

That's an insane amount of no-reads. For driver, make sure you are teeing up the ball 3-5 inches behind the red dot.

The Skytrak does not really like being on the same surface as the hitting mat. People tend to get the best results when it's on the floor or a separate mat. Have you tried taking it out o the case yet? Some people report much better consistency with no case.

I didn’t try taking out of the case - mostly because after I spent $250 bucks on it I wanted to make use of it I’m a high handicapper and had one shank that actually managed to ricochet and hit the case so I’m pretty thankful for it!

Maybe I was a little pessimistic on the 33% but definitely driver was a big issue. It was only my first session tho so I’ll try the tips re placement etc. I just wanted to make sure my vertical position wouldn’t be a problem

You could try replacing the feet with regular bolts, since the normal feet add that extra height.

Too high. Find a way to lower it.

All too often the instruction is to have the Skytrak level with the mat, but this is not exactly true. The skytrak needs to be the same HEIGHT as the mat, but LEVEL with the horizon. If you had to choose between correct height and level, choose height. Skytrak auto-corrects for tilt and roll up to 5 degrees. But ideally, correct height AND level with horizon.

Also, tee the ball up one or two or more inches behind the red dot when hitting driver.

I have the exact same issue. Are you looking at the tilt/roll when you say not level or actually using a level? See my attached picture. I turned the screws upside down but didnt actually turn them enough to touch the FB. My Roll is 0 but Tilt is +1 so might be good enough....? I know you definitely dont want to be half inch above.

The bottom of the Skytrak needs to be at the same height as the hitting surface. Some people use a level to measure that. Honestly though, you should just be able to get down on the floor and eyeball it. Make sure the bottom of the unit (not the bottom of the case, but the bottom of the actual Skytrak) matches up in height with the top of your hitting surface.

But if you look at the picture, it's as low as it can possible go in the case....I made a separate post about this somewhere but basically I'm not using hte feet at all that came with it so absent removing the case all together I cant lower it anymore...

kirkemg -- It's hard to tell anything from the picture. I was just speaking in general. So what you're saying is that the skytrak is still a half inch above the hitting surface even without using the screws at all? You must have quite a difference in height then between the hitting strip and the "standing" portion of the mat where the skytrak is in order to create such a gap.

In the end I just removed the screws/legs completely and sat the case flush on the mat. Now it’s in line and doesn’t sink into the mat, and all the no-reads went away. The tilt/roll calibration in ST software shows +1 and -2 but this seems well within tolerance. Now I just ignore the level on the case completely

You can still use the legs, inserted upside-down, for fine tilt/roll adjustment on a mat. Screw them in just enough to make fine adjustments.

That was actually what caused the problem I first described in OP - with the feet upside down I found that the unit ‘sunk’ into the matt. I put the little plastic caps over the screw ends but didn’t help. Overall it seemed to work for me just removing the feet completely, but appreciate you taking the time to reply
