  • Perfect Golf (beta) for Skytrak

Perfect Golf might look like a great game but has way too many bugs, even for an early access game still under development. It has a very long way to go before it can be mentioned in the same sentence as TGC, E6, ProTee and Red Chain. There is no AI, no stats, no tournament play and online play servers crash frequently. It currently has 10 courses and no stable (commercially) released version.

Price is unknown, but keep in mind you will be buying a beta product.

      So $249 for yearly subscription/pass. That's about half TGC's $479/year.

Don't see a buy-it-outright price listed. Wonder if it will similarly be half TGC's $995. If so a lot of people might stop at PG.

Don't quote me on this for sure, but from what I've heard, it's a yearly fee only. There won't be an outright buy option.

Only Perfect Golf has it so side hill - up hill - down hill, ect will influence the ball flight. So like in real life if your hitting with the ball above your feet then it'll be a draw bias and vice versa if the ball is below your feet it'll be a fade.

TGC simulator does not use side hill lies, the pc game might use it now, but 4 months ago the pc game did not use it.

Sascha1818, maybe you should verify. But from what I've read TGC Does Not

Has anyone tried to make it link to a ST yet? (as in, maybe the pre-release already works with ST?

I also noticed that there is a "SkyTrak Country Club" on the website. Any idea how country clubs work in the game?

I agree that the graphics are a bit behind TGC, especially when it comes to water. To me, it looks like the water is just a 2D texture applied to a 3D world.
In any case, this is starting to get interesting again.

No, I thought about it, but I think you might have to buy it through skygolf so your skytrak serial number is documented.

The video doesn't do it justice due to the resolution and compression. The in game setting may not have been dialled up either. The water effects are very good as it animates ripples giving the appearance of motion. I'm quite a big graphics snob (E6, for me was unplayable as the graphics were a big turn off) and yet would be more than happy to play this game especially if they nail the game play. The putting I've seen on some videos looks really accurate with the player able to sink long putts. That is of course him using a CG2 so the SkyTrak needs to work well too.

thanks for the input. I was really turned off based on the water alone, but your experience makes me feel better about it still being a viable option for me.

There's obviously still a few bugs based on what I've seen in the videos (sand flying out of the ball in mid air after bunker shots, tee boxes not being flat, etc. But that stuff should be easily fixable. Hope the one month projection is accurate. The game itself has been in "early access" for a long time on steam. Will be interesting to see this and TGC go head to head. Both good options, I won't even be considering E6 because of the likely high cost compared to these two.

I believe the sand effect is intended. I can verify that. I actually like the sand effect.

The tee box leveling is a visual thing and has nothing to do with the actual game play.

Yeah, the sand in the air is a nice touch. I think they need to refine it somewhat so that the sand goes up in the air a little sooner perhaps.

I realize the tee box has no effect on the gameplay, but it looks odd when your opponent is standing in a hole on the tee box. Like I said, just small cosmetic issues. Nothing major

Have just read up a bit more. They are apparently close to releasing an additional 20 courses made by community designers I think. They are all under NDA's so info is thin on the ground. I understand that PG was developed using the Unity 4 engine and earlier this year was switched to use the Unity 5 engine. The course designer software 'CourseForge' has recently been upgraded too which means new designs will benefit from improved textures, nicer looking trees etc. It's good to know that as the game develops they are able to improve things across the board and that the look and feel of the game will only get better. Happy days!

Exactly. It's just late when it appears on screen. Easily fixable. Would be nice if Skygolf would let us beta test it for a short period like the GC2 owners are getting to, but we know that won't happen. Instead, it'll be released and then bugs will be fixed when they get around to it 6 months from now. Maybe the GC2 guys will give good, constructive feedback and most of the kinks will be ironed out by the time we get a crack at it.

Good news/bad news. The GC2 guys have absolutely ZERO to do with Sporttrak/Skygolf. The good news is, skygolf will release and we will bitch about bugs.

                  Sound familiar?

Maybe try a link. Here is a 4K TGC shot with object detail 1 (lowest). Should open in your browser.

Thanks Bruce tried everything mate. Even your image loses all its detail through compression and resizing when I expand it. Not to worry. Thanks again. I need a cup of tea!
