  • Perfect Golf (beta) for Skytrak

Perfect Golf might look like a great game but has way too many bugs, even for an early access game still under development. It has a very long way to go before it can be mentioned in the same sentence as TGC, E6, ProTee and Red Chain. There is no AI, no stats, no tournament play and online play servers crash frequently. It currently has 10 courses and no stable (commercially) released version.

Price is unknown, but keep in mind you will be buying a beta product.

I wouldn't "assume that once 1 of them comes out, the others will follow within days or maybe weeks" as it seems like TGC had to build a special SkyTrak TGC Interface and a special TGC for SkyTrak Setup module probably mainly to address security issues to SkyTrak's satisfaction given PC programs are definitely far more hackable than iOS apps (hence WGT was easier). This is probably also why you must buy TGC for SkyTrak on SkyTrak's website (and not directly from ProTee) so SkyTrak can have greater control over security of interface (as well as first dabs on the revenues to be split w TGC). For example like the E6 demo which has an expiration date (like SkyTrak's sim option subscriptions), SkyTrak is not gonna allow E6 to be released if there is a way to continue using E6 w SkyTrak after expiration date like many have been able to do w certain hacks or by simply changing the date on computer back.

But I do agree w the above as w SkyTrak, I will only believe it "when the fat lady sings." As a SkyTrak owner, I've learned that having less expectations of ST is hugely beneficial to one's health and well-being.

Special TGC interface for ST! Yes that is how it works but you could say that about any other launch monitor. There is a special TGC interface for GC2 as well and everything else you mentioned as specific to ST and TGC applies to all the others as also. E.g buy from Skytrak and/or enable on ST web portal etc ...
If you look closely in the banned video you will see that the PG demo shows "Skytrak" as the device. For us that use GC2 with PG it says "TCP/IP device".
The difference is that Skytrak is a specific integration like Trackman 4 and Trackman 3 and the GC2 uses the generic interface that could work for anything.

Thanks for the insights davray666 as I'm a newbie to golf simulators and surely don't understand the interfaces as well as you do. I guess I was just trying to come up w rationalizations that the ST interface (and security) might be more difficult than others to maybe help explain the delays...

Wasn't there a YouTube video up earlier from a guy from Austria that showed some PG video and interviews with the SkyTrak folks at the PGA show - or was that just my imagination? On that video, they said that PG would be out on April 16 and would cost $400. I have no idea if that info is accurate, but it makes me think that we are unlikely to see PG released in the next few weeks.

That video was considered free advertising? Didn't get that. To me, his opinion was that he liked PG better than TGC. Maybe I'm not talking about the same video.

Today Luv2Golf, also known as psgolfer (banned last year but returned as Luv2Golf) has been permanently banned from this forum.

Luv2Golf/psgolfer is a commercial golf simulator reseller. He has been trolling and bashing SkyTrak products and users for the last 6 months and recently did not respect our forum rules (again) by reposting deleted content and redirecting users to other forums. After various complaints from forum members we decided to permanently ban him.

Luv2Golf/psgolfer will probably reappear on this forum under a different name/alias and will try to hack SkyTrak threads. Please PM us when you suspect anyone of being the new Luv2Golf.

Please don't ban me for this comment. Lets keep this thread about Skytrak and PG, not about users. We need to follow the rules:

Not sure what it is you do not understand. When you want to talk about TGC you post in the TGC thread. When you want to talk about PG you post in the PG Thread. When you talk about Flightscope you post in the Flightscope thread. How hard can it be? We expect constructive non-commercial posts. Almost all sim products are listed on this forum. They even have their own review pages. Please post your comments in the correct thread and respect our forum rules. Thats all we ask. We want to keep this forum clean for +60k monthly viewers and prevent it from becoming an ordinary chatbox.

You are absolutely right. It has been posted here because it mainly concerned SkyTrak users being trolled to dump their system and to buy a GC2 with PG. Lets not get into any more detail and move on.

Wow. Had no idea. Wondered why he continues to bash after he supposedly was done with skytrak. Thank you for letting us know. If I had read his stuff when I was getting skytrak I wouldn't have gotten one. And that would have been a mistake as I have been overall very happy with it. Thanks again admin.

Now. On to the sim releases!

Wow! No idea he was a reseller. But if he was a reseller why did he buy a ST, supposedly had a lot of private conversations w Seth about ST, sell the ST and buy a used GC2 on eBay? Or that was all fake too? Wow!

I think he was just an avid golf sim player.
He had sold the odd sim on eBay which I view as helping out non-US folks who couldn't get hold of them.
He was knowledgeable and had posted a lot of useful posts ok some got negative but I think he had become frustrated waiting for never coming release dates.
Personally, he had a vocal opinion and I'll miss his posts.

Ha! - I was RIGHT! - in december i posted that "me thinks i see a shill" and I got it spot on.

Too add to the thread - i find it interesting what davray666 mentioned - that specific customizations per device are required rather than an open output of the data. Not that it's special (you can't write an app for say, Swingbyte2 for instance) but none the less shows how Foresight got themselves into a kinda jam with the API access.

Reading stuff over in the Perfect Parallel world, it looks like the PG folks are confirming that the annual subscription fee will be $250 for sim use. Of course ST may have an additional fee of some kind on top of that. PG doesn't have an outright purchase price at this point although many are hoping for that option. Although there is no firm release date for PG, they are apparently hoping to release the game for both PC and sim users by the end of February. We'll just have to hope that this will actually happen and that the ST interface will become available at that time or shortly after. The fact that Seth is saying that there are less than a handful of issues to be resolved for PG and TruGolf is encouraging as well. I hope that it won't take too much longer for the official release of PG for ST to become a reality.

PG seems more like my match. I'm not crazy about 90k courses in tgc and needing an excel sheet to know which ones are playable. 10-20 real courses and a range is perfect for me.

              Does PG have a range?

Yes. PG has a range. Also has a place for putts and short game(bunkers).

I've also noticed that some of the current PG sim testers are starting to do reviews on the user-created courses (some real, some not) that are waiting to be released when PG finally becomes available to the rest of us. Among these courses are Ballyneal and Bandon Dunes.

I have played them both and enjoy them both. Both have their strengths and both have weaknesses. I will say when friends come over thus far everyone has only wanted to play Augusta. I've already payed for TGC (and FSX too) so I'll probably just pay the $250/year if that is what it comes at and have all the options.

I agree about Magnolia (Augusta) on TGC. It's a great course! I bet TGC could make money just selling that course on its own.

Not sure if this is true or not, but searching google it seems like PG has a version of Augusta. It's a developer copy and not circulated among users. Until fully tested

Interesting about the existing PG version of Augusta that is not being shared at this point. It seems likely that either this version or something new developed by one of the PG users will find its way out for wider use once PG is officially released.

Like MrHogan, don't wanna get banned for this but I'm leaning towards PG as well. Biggest reason is ability to play local multi-player off different tees. To me playability is much more important than super fancy graphics requiring a supercomputer to run. Don't really need 80k course - just give me 20-30 good well-mapped-out courses w good playability and I'm all good. Plus the rumored $250/year (or $400 one-time if indeed true but we'll have to see) seems more attractive as well.

I have had the chance to play the user created courses and a few others that are not yet publicly available. There are some seriously skilled designers in the crowd that contributed.
While most seam to look forward to the iconic courses like Augusta I personally enjoy the real course reproductions of local courses more.
Not sure exactly why but it's a cool feeling to read about the real thing on line and then go and play knowing that the elevations and layout is based on LIDAR data and therefore accurate.
Length and difficulty in general suits my skill level better and tee's are usually included so all your friends can participate regardless of capability.
But then again I have not played Augusta in PG yet, so opinion might shift ...

I've played all of the currently released PG courses on my PC, though not yet on ST. Of the unreleased PG courses you've played, are there a few that are especially outstanding?

Yes definitely. But since this a matter of taste if you ask several people you will get different answers.
There are already score cards(with yard ages for all tees) course descriptions and reviews by sim players of these un-released courses.
I could give you the link but that wold violate the forum rules. So you have to use Google to find it.

Thanks, I've seen the link so I know what you mean. I'm particularly interested in Bandon Dunes since I enjoyed playing it IRL - did the designer do a good job in recreating that course?
