  • Golf Simulator Forum wants your opinions about the SkyTrak to be heard!

    Dear SkyTrak owner,

We would like to hear your honest opinion about the SkyTrak Launch Monitor (positive or negative) so new simulator owners can get the information they need to make smart buying choices.

You can use the following link to write your review: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/review/skytrak

    Thank you!!

  • just got a skytrak...been using it everyday for about 3 weeks now.
7iron swing speed is about 80-85mph, very few misreads and very few shots that do not register. I cant connect to network mode because my internet is not 2.4? without network mode, I guess I cannot access any of the subscriptions or game improvement plans.
My question is it really worth it? I enjoy the range, and that is my main focus to get a consistent ball flight and swing.

Are you certain you don’t have a dual band router? Even if you don’t you can get a cheap one that is and connect it to your main router and set it up only for skytrak. Works great that way

  • My bag mapping is not saving and it is driving me crazy. Any guidance would be appreciated. I have created a name and bag

There was a known bug with the bag mapping and I believe they addressed that with the latest update that was like last week or so. Have you updated to the latest version?

  • 3on3 thank you for the update

  • I recently purchased a Skytrak as an upgrade/replacement for my FlightScope Mevo. Skytrak was a much better option for my indoor garage practice set-up hitting into a net. Here are my initial thoughts after about 5 sessions.

    * First impressions are very favorable. Carry and spin numbers feel very accurate with the exception of fat shots. Shot shapes seem accurate. Really like the bag mapping and wedge matrix features.
    * Alignment is the biggest challenge. Takes several minutes at the beginning of each session to get confident that alignment is correct. Also seems to require additional adjustment as I go from wedges to short irons to long irons.
    * Running the Skytrak software on a productivity laptop, the 1-2 second delay is no big deal as I'm hitting into a net and it takes a second to turn back toward the laptop anyway. Would probably be a bigger deal if hitting into a projection screen.
    * Mishits occur about 1 out of every 15-20 shots for me. Not a huge deal, except they always seem to occur when I've really striped the ball. Not sure what to make of that.
    * For driver shots, I've found that wooden tees are much better than the plastic cone/"birdie" tees. Far fewer misreads.
    * Really wish there was a way to delete shots after completing a practice session.
    * Also wish there was a way to save progress and/or adjust session settings on bag mapping and wedge matrix sessions. Found that if you don't complete the whole session, nothing gets saved.

All told, I've very happy with my purchase and look forward to upgrading my laptop at some point so I can play TGC courses.

    • I jumped into the golf simulator scene last fall during the pandemic. And skytrak was what I selected because of my setup in the garage. I started off with just the skytrak driving range and that seemed to work ok. I did find that spending time (thanks to Gung-ho Golf and Skytrak Seth) setting up the unit level for my fiberbuilt mat was key to getting good readings. I strongly suggest doing that whole setup procedure. I then got a little bored with the skytrak range and got the WGT package. This was a waste of time. While it looked good, it does not play well at all and it disconnects all the time.

So then I decided to put a dedicated PC in the garage with a nice screen and downloaded the e6 demo. This e6 range is great. The ball flight on the range of e6 is so much more realistic than the skytrak range. I think I played the one course (Avariana or something like that) about 50 times. Then I bit the bullet and got the basic course plan for e6. This was the best thing I ever did. It comes with about 20+ courses and I play about 4 rounds a week.

Since I got my whole system setup last fall and winter, I have straightened out my swing with more consistency and added about 15yards across the bag. Now playing outside again this spring its really shown.

The only thing I am looking for now is good club data. The endeavor continues !!!!!!

Started up the unit this morning, hit about 15 balls and the unit stopped reading completely. Tried various USB cables, unit connects but still doesn't register any shots. Needless to say, I don't think much of the SkyJunk

Jumped on this forum and saw a thread that someone else had this issue and the test was to put the unit in a left hand mode and waggle the club through the light and see if it goes out.

Did that in left hand mode, light goes out with each pass of the club through the spot. Back on right hand mode, the light never goes out.

Now I have to send it in for repair, got a RMA from Skytrak. Can't wait to hear what this is going to cost to repair out of warranty and only having hit maybe 1000's balls with it.
Seems pretty weak for what this unit cost and the yearly fee to use it.

How many others have had this issue ?

        Then after talking to others…

The fact that the beam goes out with a club waggle does sound like the right laser is shot. I had it few years ago was quoted £300 to fix, so just over $400. Not sure what you would get quoted we do tend to get ripped off a bit in the UK.

Cozman: I will try that today and get back to you later today. Thanks for the tip on how to check this. I think the right laser is shot too. But will see. If it is, pretty wank that something like this should happen with less than 1000 balls passing through it. I'm sure I'll get bent over for the repair costs no doubt. No wonder why their warranty is so short.
Cozman: Yup, left handed with the SkyJunk between my feet, worked fine. Ball flight worked fine. It's the right handed laser. 1000 balls at most and having this issue, totally unacceptable.
No choice now but to get bent over and have it fixed.

You could also do surgery, and move the left to the right. If you are out of warranty, not that much to lose. I have heard of maybe a dozen trying it, all successful. You will of course not be able to have lefty friends use it, and if you eventually send it in, Skytrak may or may not give you a hard time about it. Personally, I'd probably send it in, but if you want to fix it, you can have it running two hours from now if you look up the some of the posts for guidance.

Cozman: Paid the $30.00 for shipping and insurance to send it back to them for repair. Went out today. It's 2 years old, but haven't used it much. Just set up my indoor studio a couple of months ago.
Mostly just play golf 3 days a week on various real green grass courses and hit range balls.
Want to have it repaired so I can sell it and try to recover as much of the money I spent for it.
As they say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
So they had a bad batch and I end up getting stuck for the repairs because the quality sucks. No wonder why their warranty is so short.
I'm not going to risk having to repair it constantly at my expense when the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Live and learn.....

        • I am not happy with my SkyTrak. I sent up a simulator room using TGC2019 at considerable cost. It worked well for a while but no longer works and says "SkyTrak provisioning error". It has been over four weeks and SkyTrak support is minimal. They tried and failed to resolve the error and do not seem interested. On its own, just as a launch monitor Skytrak is good value but I would think twice before using it as a basis for a golf simulator. A simulator room and software is quite an investment and SkyTrak support is inadequate for this.
(I would mention that the ProTee TGC2019 software is great and their support is good .)

          • Let me start by saying I’m pretty new to ST (purchased 1/7/23) so my impressions are very early.

I’m very happy this far with the unit itself. I find it to be quality made and with the metal case I feel quite tough. Getting the unit onto my Wi-Fi was quite a chore (the unit was not seeing any networks at all) but after several restarts and much cursing it finally recognized my network and connected quickly after that.

Accuracy on the ranger is good but I wonder if it gives me a little more credit for distance than I deserve (e.g., hitting a 6 iron 180-185 vice the 170-175 I normally get out of it).

I did purchase the Play and Improve plan so I could have a sim on my iPhone. That was a mistake. WGT is not good. The accuracy of shots was unbearable. I even switched back and forth btw WGT and the ST practice range just to make sure I was hitting the ball straight (which I was). Bottom line is that WGT is an app and has the same limitations you might expect from an app as opposed to full-on sim software.

So after the bad WGT experience I decided to invest in a gaming pc laptop and the TGC 2019 software. Getting the ST app installed was easy and works great! While installing TGC 2019 I ran into the “provisioning error” message I’ve read and posted about on this forum which the ST folks are working on (basically TGC doesn’t thinks my ST is not licensed). I have been in touch with ST tech support via email but effort to reach someone by phone, be it tech support, sales, subscription renewal or “all other calls”, has proved fruitless and has caused even more cursing than the network issue.

I’m hopeful the provisioning error can be resolved quickly and I can play some garage golf soon. I’ll provide updates as we go.

            Stephen

Update: I am up and running on TGC 2019 thanks to Quinn over at ST! I played my first course today and I thought TGC 2019 was pretty darn good. The interaction with ST was about perfect with the exception of a few no-read putts. I found that putting the ball logo perpendicular to the hitting surface produced less no-reads. No real issues on other clubs. Still learning how to visualize a 40-yard pitch shot on the 2D screen but it'll come.

            • Purchased Sky Trak Plus May 2023 at product launch. Came highly recommended because of price point and accuracy. I’ve used it daily since I received it. Primarily with E6. Great simulator and experience when it connects properly. Reads most shots. Have to angle the unit slightly when setting up to get it to read straight. Great way to play 18 in an hour. Gaming card on PC enhanced experience greatly over using iPad. Purchase a refurbished PC off of Amazon for a few hundred dollars.

I experienced sync issues since the beginning which makes playing 18 holes often frustrating and challenging. Experienced issues both direct mode and network mode on both iPad and a windows 10 PC. Most stable was network mode on PC which solved it most of the time on Skytrak software but not in E6. The unit would have 3 green lights and show connected but E6 would show it was not. I would have to turn off computer and unit to reset connection and lose my round. Customer service is typically quick to answer and very friendly but ultimately unable to troubleshoot. Had to send it in for repairs. Took a week after the received it to verify they had the unit, two more weeks for update on repairs. Seth from Skytrak was very responsive via email but ultimately said they couldn’t find anything wrong and will be shipping the unit back. Had to call and email multiple times to get tracking information which is yet to be received. Hopefully it works well once received back.

Price point makes it worth it otherwise would be difficult to accept connection and alignment issues.
