SkyTrak with PC or iPad

Do you use SkyTrak with a PC or iPad?

I got mine a few days ago and am setup up my sim area with a screen and a projector. I had also ordered a HP PC, but I am not sure I really need it. So far I have been using SkyTrak with my iPhone 6 plus and it has everything that I am looking to do. I am primarily going to be using it to work on my game and the basic practice range and the closest to the pin competitions in the SkyTrak are perfect for that. So if I get a iPad mini and hook it up to my projector, that's all I should need. I am not sure how much online sim golf I am going to be playing. Especially as the weather warms up, I would rather be outside.

Just wanted to get some opinions before I go ahead and cancel my PC order (it ships tomorrow). Is there anything more I will get from a PC over iPad mini?

I like the PC better and only use it. I also thought that i would be fine with what skytrak had to offer, but i have found that i'm really looking forward to sim play. You definitely don't need a pc if you are certain of what you want. If you find later that you do want sim, you can always get a computer then.

I have the iPad Air 2, but still no ST. Waiting to figure out what happens with sim in future. My sim area is ready to go. All the sync and distance issues are keeping me from buying also. Hopefully a fix is on the way soon. I will also run from iPad to projector initially and go from there

Leopad, I have sync issues but im going to do what MrHogan said and use my phone as a hot spot when leaving my home network. That should take care of my sync issue. As for distance issues, Ill restate I thought mine was off on driver and hybrids til I took it to the dome. Avg driver distance total 290 with a long of now 309 Skytrak vs Avg driver distance total 290 with a long of 317 Gc2. That makes me one Happy Camper!!

That's what I have been doing. I have taken Skytrak to the range couple of times and used my Android phone for hotspot. Haven't had any sync issues so far.

Im content with the ipad for now. I will look into a pc when I get a sim. Time frame probably next winter. The pc will probably be cheaper by then too.

I have had my SkyTrak for 3 months and use it just about everyday. Is it perfect? No.. I am happy with everything up until 3 hybrid distance wise. I am one of the few (sounds like) that use WGT and I am fine with it. I think if is pretty good left to right. Maybe a little harsh but it lets you know when you have made a bad swing.

Quick and dirty. If you are just interested in a launch monitor I believe an Ipad/Iphone is the way to go. If you are thinking sim I would probably go PC. I am doing both because both devices suit the other parts of my life. I have seen real world results from working with the SkyTrak. I rarely hear that being mentioned. Spin rate with wedges is up. Spin rate with Driver is down. Ball speeds are higher across the board. Left right deviation are tighter . If I could chose 2k in lessons or 2k on the SkyTrak... SkyTrak every time. I think I have a good understanding of the golf swing and am a guy that would prefer to dig it out of the dirt myself. I will retain more and I know I work hard and will make the investment in time to practice.

I did play demo of E6 yesterday and it was a blast. Not perfect but a blast. Never thought I would have access to something quite like this in my basement. Hopefully they release the full function sim soon.

I hear a lot of complaints about $100.00 a year for this or that. I get it. You paid once & don't want to pay again. Honestly I don't care. I knew the structure before I bought in. If that is what it takes to make the business model work... I am cool with it. If they charged $500.00 more for the unit I would have still bought it and I am a cheapskate.

If you have any other questions, comments or foul words for me. Please let me know. It is a big investment and I think we hear more from the unhappy camp than those who understand what they bought. Not trying to flame things up but one other voice can't hurt

Were your yardages consistent across the board for Skytrak range vs WGT vs the E6 demo? Nice to see that you have seen real world results. Ill find out in a month or 2.

No.. Yardages are different from ST Range -> WGT -> e6...

e6 I think is the closest across the board. Wedges seem a little short. Driver seems about right. I have hit some crazy long 3Ws on E6 though. Get that spin down and that LA up. Rolls for miles. Wade Hampton has a lot of elevation changes so I may be getting fooled on club distances. I am getting pitches and short chips to read fine and have no problem with it.That has been the complaint I have heard. I have played on 60K sims that I have hated for those reasons. Haven't messed with the putting much. I just choose the # of putts. Inside 10' is 1, inside 40' is 2, outside 40' is 3. Not perfect but I have a plan. I played a full 18 this morning before work and had fun. Didn't wanna go to work! Spent sometime on the e6 range and I like it. There is a practice setting to put targets at specific yardards and diameter of targets. Much better currently that the ST range and challenges.

WGT is off. I usually add a club or 2 for irons, Maybe 35+ yards off on driver.. Very playable as long as you don't mind 140 yard 8i's. Putting and chipping are not great but not horrible. It looks decent and keeps my interest.

Looking forward to PG & TGC release of at least a demo, release of e6, updated ST app with new green targets on range. Lots of fun stuff. The unfortunate thing is that when spring hits I will still be using the ST for practice outside but will be more interested in play golf on a course vs. sim golf. Timing could have been better. I assume if it was good to go they would release it. What is scary is I personally am assuming there are some issues that can't work around. Hope this is not the case.

In the end I am trying to become the best golfer I can be. Not the best sim golfer I can be. I believe ST is part of that. I think sim can be to an extent. Played the island green hole @ TPC Sawgrass on e6. I did feel the pressure difference. Barely held the green at the back. Is it real golf? No. Is it fake golf? No. Somewhere right in between for me.

Ive taken mine to the range a couple times and used my iphone6 with it but I only use PC at home. The skytrak software is just plain bad. Its loaded with bugs and void of features any normal launch monitor user would expect to be standard. E6 is a way better software even if all you use is the practice features.

What issues have you encountered with the skytrak practice software? It has worked fine for me, but then I have only used it fore a few days (and only in network mode).

Yeah, I think I am pretty sure that I am going to be using it mainly as launch monitor primarily to work on my game. In my few days of usage, I have gotten so much useful information out of it, this is something everyone should have who is serious about their game. I took it with when I went for a lesson and being able to try out stuff and look at numbers at the same time, made that so much more useful. My coach was so impressed with it, he is ordering one

I can really see myself spending less money on lessons as I know what I need to do and I can actually see what the ball is doing with SkyTrak. I usually end up spending close to $700 on range alone (and that is using discount cards) each year. So I am hoping with this setup, I should be cut that down a lot.

Haven't tried WGT so far. Will try it today. But I think based on the comments so far, I don't see any reason to get the PC right now. Maybe by end of this year I can look into it again.

Edit: I can probably use the money I save from getting a PC to get new clubs instead

Where can I get the Android app for this, I have searched online but cannot find it anywhere? I would like to take it to the range and test out if that possible?

Sorry I think I was reading the thread wrong. Do I need to turn my Android phone hotspot on and take my Skytrak and iPad to the range, link them all and use that way?

Can you use Skytrak with WGT on a PC? I thought it was iOS only.

I'm also impressed with what I have bought in the Skytrak unit, but I seem to be havimg all the teething problems I have read about on these forums. First couldn't get the Skytrak to connect to the network and lost hours of my time. Now the practice data is not syncing (and yes I am in network mode) and I'm also having distance problems. I've been playing for eight years, rarely miss short and am a bit of a range rat so I'm used to mats. Last night my six iron was allegedly going as far as my 9 iron usually does. Yes my hitting space feels a little claustrophobic and I wasn't hitting the ball well, but still, 3 clubs down!?

Anyhow, not sure what my point is but, as pleased as I am with my device and its capabilities, this has not been as smooth or easy as I was expecting, which was "hang some nets in the garage, plop a mat and the unit down, and we're off!
