  • Update and Sneak Peak at v2.2

    Hey everybody,

    I'm finally back. It's been an insane last few weeks. I wanted to pop in quickly and give an update on a few things:

    1) v2.2 - We had an unexpected body of development work come out of the PGA show. It had to do with how the SkyTrak unit communicates with the software and was a huge change, but it is certainly for the best and improves the connection stability. The changes we made will directly affect all of our simulation partners as well and make for a more enjoyable game play experience. I have been in contact with some of you and used your accounts to test the data sync issues - I have been successful on all accounts, syncing data in every connection scenario possible. We still have a few small items to take care of in the background and I hate to release anything on a Friday, but here's the deal - I will give you guys what I have right now for PC to play around with over the weekend. Install at your own risk and please don't call customer support on it. I'll be back on Monday to handle any and all concerns.

    - Added unit internal leveling information
    - Added player ball markers in multi-player challenges
    - Added Undefined Club option
    - Added ability to choose club during challenges
    - Improved Profile History
    - Improved Device Connection Stability
    - Improved Data Sync process (indicator now in Profile)
    - Improved local database
    - Adjusted scale of shot plotting graph
    - Added Alignment Mode reminder
    - Added fine-tune adjustment to Target Challenge
    - Added loading screen to enter Practice
    - Added side spin to session export
    - Refreshed Challenge Dashboard Icons
    - Temporarily disabled Stats
    - Numerous behind-the-scenes bug fixes





    2) TGC - This is out of my hands. I can tell you that everything is ready on the integration side and the team is working to get it up for sale. Please don't shoot the messenger.

    3) WGT - The driver distance issue has been fixed! This will be included in their next update.

    4) TruGolf & Perfect Golf - I can count the number of outstanding issues on one hand. Again, I just can't personally comment on release.


    I know that some of this is not what you want to hear, but please understand that while my avatar says "SkyTrak", I'm not the company and I don't control every facet of it. I'm just here to get feedback from avid golfers on our software and to try and help out whenever I can. I'd like for my role here to shift back to that as opposed to fielding questions and complaints and release dates and company practices. We've all seen first-hand that it's just not productive in the end and creates a hostile and non-constructive environment that, to be honest, isn't that fun to walk into. Those are often legitimate gripes, but there are just too many players in the game for me to make personal promises. I want to focus more on things within my control where I can provide you the most rapid, helpful, and solid response possible. I truly believe that we can and will continue to make this product better and better.

    I'm sure you aren't a fan of me Seth, but I do appreciate the info. I wish it was a different release but for many this is a really nice gesture, I'll take a look tomorrow at the new version. I just tend to only use the e6 demo for practice now, but to each their own.

      Yeah, this is my sentiment. I'll give it a rip today, but I don't use the app on PC or iPhone anymore. Just the e6 range. So not a ton of value in the old app so far.
      I'm hopeful that the new greens targets will change that.
      Not to mention that I find the e6 range (and game) oddly prone to excessive sidespin exaggeration compare to the ST range.
      But a very solid release note set none the less.

    Agreed... Thx Seth... Even just for the communication... A little bit goes along way... Downloaded and installed 2.2... Used briefly and no issues to report... Was unable to sync before and that appears to be fixed, so good start... Level information was helpful too... Was off 2 degrees on back tilt... With that now corrected, should finally get back to shooting par

        Go into practice mode and the option is on the top left side underneath your yardages

      I think my account is screwed up, as I have the game improvement package per my account on skygolf and it shows my skytrak, however I can't get that to reflect in the PC app. This is nothing new to this release, it's been this way for awhile. It says I need to register but when I try to register it says it's already registered. Not complaining just sayin'.

      Hit lots of practice range balls regardless of all that and all seemed fine. The level unit check is cool. I was never really worried about that but it's a nice to have.

        Hey Joko , can you send me a log? Use the PC app and go to Profile>ABOUT>Send Logs>Send Current Log. That will highlight the file that you need to attach to an email. Send to logs@skytrakgolf.com and make sure you put a detailed description of the problem in the subject or body of the email. Thanks!

      I like the greens in practice mode, and the "no club" option! (I've never bothered with the online 360 thing)
      If only the contrast between the green and the background was clearer.
      Also like the level on the main screen. Saves a click.

        Have to agree, having the greens is great. I sold off my optishot after I bought the skytrak, but the one thing I missed was the fact that the optishot had several greens I could hit into. But the optishot was also really quite inaccurate too. Skytrak now with the greens and being able to choose green size and difficulty is great fun to practice with.

        Only issue I have found so far is that even after a few hours, the skytrak still says it is syncing data, please wait. I wonder though if this is a product of the number of shots. As I went into the about page and it said there was a total of nearly 1600 shots recorded.

        I had to help a friend get the PC upgrade working with his skytrak as it wouldn't initially work. His shot count for more reason only said 3. But we noticed that the data sync finished with a minute or so.

        So we assume it is because my shot count is nearly 1600, that the data is taking a while to sync up.

        Other than that, the PC upgrade appears to be working ok so far.

          Yeah, I have a ridiculous number of shots in my account, and mine takes about 15 minutes to sync from a fresh install. Power users will need to give it some time, although now it only syncs when on the dashboard (so it doesn't slow down ball flight/game play).

        Well after several hours. About the only issue is that the data is still trying to sync. My internet connection is not an issue. So not sure what is happening there.

        Using the practice greens is great. But it is weird how if metres is selected for distance, when you select the distance for the practice greens, it is still in Yards.

        Skytrak has frozen up twice. The software was working, but for some reason after about an hour or sometimes less, the skytrak unit would not show the laser dot. We quit the session and went back to the main menu and it said there was no connection to the skytrak. After shutting down the skytrak and restarting the program, all works again ok.

        Yes, I am using a USB data cable for connection of the skytrak to the laptop.

        Yes, I installed the USB driver that is included with the skytrak software for the skytrak unit itself.

          How long is your USB cable? I've been seeing connections dropping sometimes in cable longer than 10-15 feet. Still trying to pinpoint it. Also make sure your computer is set to high performance mode, that should keep the USB ports active always.

        I also have a syncing problem after upgrading to this version. I just hit a bunch of 7 iron and then switched to 5 iron. I can see in sky golf 360 the data for 5 iron, but not for 7 iron, which I had hit before. The skytrak app says syncing and it has been on that for a while now.

        Earlier in the day my son was also saying that his data did not get synced and I still don't see it.

        I have pretty fast Internet, so not sure what's going on.

        But the good thing is the syncing does not seem to effect anything else. Really love not having to see the data syncing status in the main screen. Also the greens in the practice range are awesome. Nice work on that SkyTrak_Seth.

          2.2 looks good and has worked well for me in the limited time I have used it.

          I messed with the practice greens briefly but only was able to place one on the range. Is there a way to have 3 greens on the range or is 1 the max?

          I hope that the Apple app also becomes available as soon as possible. The sync issue came back on my app (this is the third time.) and I cannot resolve it this time. This time it is a bit different. It doesn't slow things down, but the syncing message is running forever.

            I'll get back to address everything in full tomorrow (and thank you all for the great feedback!). But for now, can anyone still having issues with sync do the following: open the app and leave it open on the dashboard while connected to the internet. After 15 minutes, if it still says "waiting to sync", go to Profile>About>send logs>send current log. This will open a folder with the current log highlighted. Please email that to logs@skytrakgolf.com with the subject v2.2 sync error. Hopefully this will let us get rolling first thing in the morning to clear that up. The good news is that there is major progress on that front. Thanks again.

            Have waited and done a ton of research and finally decided to take the dive and bought a Skytrak. Should get it this week. It sounds like the issues that have been discussed are getting ironed out so hopefully minimal issues when I get it. I bought a Skycaddie from this company a few years ago and it ended up being a paperweight so I am praying they do not let me down again.

              I pulled the trigger on one also. Mine will be here in three days. Apps are downloaded and I'm anxious to get going on it. If anyone can chime in... Do I need to have the unit before I can even log on to the apps? PC app will not allow me to log in...

                yes you do the first time as I recall to register the account. There is not much you can do in the app without the unit connected currently anyway, you can't even look at shot history (not that you'd have any). I think they have plans to not make the unit tethered a requirement to view data.

              So the new Skytrak update already paying dividends. Been using the new practice green feature to figure out what are comfortable short game targets for me like chips are good out to 30 yards and full swings start at 70. The black hole I need to avoid is the 40-60y range. 60° goes 70, 56° goes 80, and 52° goes 90. Info I plan to put to use for course management.

              Does the unit leveling info just show the info or does it actually account for a slightly out of level unit?

                That compensation is only in the 2.2 app. Will that be part of a firmware update in the future so the leveling will work with other software?
