  • Skytrak Protective Case

Now the Skytrak protective case has been out for a while on their website for $129, how many people actually bought it? Happy with it?

Someone else posted that it may actually affect the ball distance? Ball was going further with Skytrak outside of the case than in the case? Anyone else with similar experience?

Other issues? I'm thinking of getting one, and don't mind paying $129, but want to make sure that it doesn't make Skytrak less accurate.

Ah, dont know how I missed this updates on this thread. Not sure why its not working with the case like it does when we made it for my dad. Ill have to check and see what the thickness we used was. If you can post a picture of what you are working with so far maybe i can give an idea or two.

Honestly though I do feel like it was a little dumb luck that ours worked right away though. I know when i made my own homemade protective box and shield I had to adjust hole size and where the lexan was situated (left to right and near to far) to the skytrak several times before I got it working just right. With his official protective box, we cut the holes in the lexan, popped it on there with some tape (later he put velcro to hold it) and it worked great.

Ironstrokes thanks for offering to take a look. Here it is on the actual unit. I can take pictures of it on the case later today.

It works on the unit and I'm going to the driving range today to play around with it.

Let me know what you think.

Has anyone tried this ? I am a little concerned that the position of the cut outs would have to change as the lexan would not be right up against the Skytrak.
I'm in Puerto Vallarta for 3 weeks, I'm thinking of sending a CNC file to a water jet cutter along with the lexan when I go back to the frozen north.

Actually had my dad over today and showed him the pictures as well and he suggested cutting the little side pieces that stick out the sides of the lexan screen (to fit into the mold of protective case) a little smaller so you have room to raise and lower the screen on the front of the case until you find the magic spot.

If that doesnt help, me personally I feel like its just a matter of slowly getting a file and sanding the holes to be slightly bigger (without letting a ball though obviously) until it works. With the screen being on the protective case it is obviously not directly up against the skytrak itself so the holes may need to be slightly bigger to get the cameras reading it correctly through the openings of the lexan.

Hope you get it soon. At least once you finally get it you wont ever have to bother with it again. I know from experience it was frustrating getting my homemade one to work just right

I finally cut down the plastic so much that it will actually fit on the unit and the unit will now fit inside the case. However, I can't seem to get it to read chip and pitch shots. Any ideas? It will read full swings but not pitch chips

Tonight I bought a small sheet of lexan and some velcro. Is there a template floating around that someone could PM me?

          I would appreciate it....thanks!

I have now two made, both will read full shots, neither will read chips or pitches < 10 feet... =( might just roll without it. To much pain and effort put into them and they don't work

I had to elongate my windows downward to get my chips shots to read regularly. Other trick was setting the ball behind the red dot so the ball was higher in the air for my skytrak to read it.

Thats weird. Im guessing it isnt reading the putts either than? That was the hardest part for me, getting the soft shots/putts to read. The first time I tried it and got the putts to read on my own homemade case was when I cut out the template with a thin clear plastic sheet and taped it on the skytrak so it was just about as far away from the skytraks screen as it would be with the actual thick lexan. This then gave me the freedom to make quick cuts and adjustments on it while hitting putt after putt in my basement until it read perfectly every time. Then used that as a template on how much and where I had to shave off to make the holes bigger on the actual lexan screen.

For my dad's, we didnt do any of that, just got lucky with the first time we cut it.

If you can get the putts reading consistently, the rest should read perfectly as well I believe

Just had to chime in regarding the protective case..........Had my nephew here at Thanksgiving. I reluctantly agreed to let he and some other people into my man cave to play golf. It was nothing but shanks and ricocheting going on and my life was truly in danger. Long story short........SkyTrak took a direct hit on a shank from the young lad. The laser took an extremely long time to come back(maybe seemed longer with the tension) but all is still working well. Kudos to the case!

How many drinks did it take to convince you to let them play on it and how many drinks did you take after the skytrak got nailed?

I just purchased everything for my setup and that will be the first thing, build the protective case and lock everyone out!!

Just teasing about locking everyone out, but I am tempted

I drank ALOT after and may have said a few unkind words!!!!! Now it's invite only to enter and after they enter the mat gets pushed way up to the screen to eliminate the shank effect!

If anyone could PM me the template I'd appreciate it. Should be the most recent person to receive it, that way the same person doesn't need to keep sending. Thanks in advance!

Has anyone tried a Optical AR Film on both sides of the Lexan ? "Roll type Anti-reflection film . Applying it on both sides of glass and would eliminate total light reflection down to 1/10
