  • Anyone have any issues getting shots to stick on greens in TGC?

Does anyone have issues with their wedge/7/8/9 iron shots not staying on green even with high spin numbers?

Using brand new clubs, no dirt or golf ball skin in grooves.

    Thanks,

It does not spin as greens do IRL for me, but I can get them to stop. What spin numbers are you getting on these shots?

What's a high spin number? All TGC courses are hard in front of the green. If you land just short the ball will release more. For me an 8 iron landing on a flat spot stops pretty quick. That's with 6-7k spin.

Also, balls landing on a down slope are gone.

Greens are a little hard to hold I will admit, I just pretend it hasn't rained in a bit and club down

Is this not a known SkyTrak interface issue that is being worked on?

Even with the update the greens are unrealistically firm

If you are interested we can send you a test version with less firm greens. You will need a little computer knowledge. Extracting a zip file and replacing some files. Let me know.

@ protee. This zip file..... is for multiple platforms? I had to adjust my spin a bit to duplicate real life around the greens. However, there are problems with spin on other clubs as a result. If it is for multiple platforms, please send me link and instructions. Thanks

@protee I would be interested in testing out the version with less hard greens.

I'm a GC2 user, but if anything I find them too soft. Like spinning back a full PW on a flat landing...

I find that they mimic greens found on a well manicured high end course pretty accurately.

The greens used to be even softer and I could spin back an 8 iron full shot...

I agree with goat. I find the green firmness to be just right. I hate greens in real life where I leave craters of a ball mark and the ball sucks back off the green.

Which is why i believe there is something going on with individual courses. Not sure if it's that i can't read greens from the fairway or not, but if you've played the current tournament vs something like the whistling straights course, you can see there is a very big difference with how they react.

I've found the same thing the current tournament seems to be a much different reaction on the green from that of some other courses I've played, feel like I'm hitting pretty consistent shots on each course with some big differences in the way the ball reacts on landing.

Just a guess, but there were complaints about the Marina course's greens having quite a bit of undulation. No amount of spin will make your ball stick if it lands on the wrong side of a slope.

I found the Marina greens no different than other courses other than the excessive amount of breaks and pronounced undulations, etc.

I hit several greens in regulation....even in the middle and the ball would still roll off and I ended up chipping from the fringe for birdie vs putting. This happened even with wedge shots and not necessarily hitting on a downslope. I just expected this to be similar for everyone...is this on the case on the current tourney course?

I'm not sure that you can actually tell if you've hit on a 'downslope' or otherwise. When you hit your apporach shot and see it land on the green, the green grid which shows the slope, is not visible.

I experienced exactly the same thing, landing and then watching the ball roll to the fringe. That's how this course's greens seem to be set up.

I find its much easier to see discrepancies or things you think don't add up while playing sim golf.

But I think some people forget these things happen constantly in real life too.

Hit a great shot and it comes up short/long, rolls through the green...etc. IRL there is nothing to "blame" cuz...obviously it's real. Sim golf it's easy to hit a great shot and the ball doesn't end up where you'd like and that leaves you the opportunity to blame the software...etc.

Not saying everything in TGC is perfect...but sim golf allows your mind to jump to faults in the simulation where as the same shot/result IRL leaves you saying wtf, but obviously real world physics determined what happened....ie nothing to blame but the game of golf itself.

At least we don't have sprinkler heads, bare spots, or landing in a divot to blame anything on.

I completely agree with Goat. Look at several things - slope on greens, spin numbers depending on what ball you are using, wind etc. Try hitting different balls, ProV vs Top Flight and see if there are differences.

When we design courses we can set the firmness of the greens and fairways, some designers purposely firm up the greens to protect par, when you start your round it will tell you how firm and fast the course is set up, as a designer who has never designed specifically for pro tee do you need the green setup softer than normal

I was under the impression that the sim version of TGC was able to over-ride the design settings and that the speed for all greens was the same (for the sim version). This of course can't alter the configuration of the green itself, change the breaks, etc.
