  • SkyTrak PC v2.5 Pre-Release

    Hi all,

I want to go ahead and get this out to you before the official release of v2.5. Just as whenever I've done this before, PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT with any issues/questions regarding this release. I will do my best to manage everything here on the forum - ideally in this thread. There may be a few things that will change before the official release (small stuff like defaulting to follow the ball view for the Skills Assessment), but this is pretty much it. Also keep in mind that for right now, all greens inherit the same ground condition as is set for the fairway, so set that accordingly during the Skills Assessment (just like you do now for Practice Greens). FYI, green mapping with separate firmness will follow v2.5 very quickly - this will apply everywhere in the app.

    V2.5 Release Notes

    - Game Improvement module added to the main dashboard - featuring the brand new Skills Assessment
    - Added 4 new data parameters to Shot History: Max Height, Angle of Descent, Flight Time, and PTI (Smash Factor)
    - Added new ‘Dynamic Handicap’ scoring system within Skills Assessment
    - Slight adjustment to 45 degree camera view to now include entire ball flight
    - Added quick ‘Return To Range’ button for all menus
    - Improved carry distances for low launch/low spin shots
    - Database refactoring
    - Numerous bug fixes and behind-the-scenes work.

    Hi Seth,
the skills assessment is awesome, thx for that. I was hoping one thing to be fixed with the latest update. I have my skytrak in metric system (kph and meters), but all the greens, in practise mode, challenge mode and skill assement are only adjustable in yards. Thats really confusing.
I hope this can be sorted out quickly.

Despite this, still a very happy skytrak user here.

Ah, thanks for bringing that to my attention. Let me look into it.

Hello Seth, screen shots look really good, can't wait for release on IOS. Practising with the Skytrak has really improved my distance control, but I feel that the App is just short of a few key features that would make our practise results even more useful. I know you are running out of real estate within the App, but any chance of the following in future releases -
    1. Rather than having to delete poor shots after each shot, have an option in the history screen, to deselect and possibly
"exclude" individual shots (see you've added delete option), so that the average can be adjusted ("exclude" like GC2) I don't always catch a bad shot on the initial screen, until after I've analysed the numbers and see the trends and sometimes having the ability to simply exclude it, to see how it impact averages and then being able to permanently delete it if so desired, would be handy.
    2. For those that practise shorter swings, i.e. 3/4, 1/2 and even 1/4 shots ( or different clock positions) it would be nice to be able to try identify these by a selection and filter option or a comment option, as unfortunately these shots get bundled In with the club selected, and screw up the averages). I'm sure someone might say create a different session ( which I have done in the past) but then looking back at the history, days or weeks later, I have no point of reference. With the amount of wind and rain we have here in UK, knowing your exact yardages with these types of knockdown shots would be a great help.

I have to say, the Skytrak gives me endless hours of fun in the garden, either selecting practise, challenges, longest drive and even with WGT. Later in the year I look forward to purchasing TGC and setting up my indoor simulator.

A word of warning to those who take their Skytrak to their local driving range, I've stopped taking mine to the driving range now, as the local range uses balls that are designed go reduced distances (80% on average) to stop the big hitters from reaching the range boundaries, but more importantly puts ridiculous amounts of spin on the ball Especially Driver (5000 rpm) I thought I had a faulty Skytrak. Playing with my own golf ball, at home into a net, reflects the right range of spin observed when being Custom fitted (both GC2 and Trackman) and average length within a few yards of my Averages measured with Game Golf, so really impressed, well done !!

In response to bennyg211, I suppose what I'm really after is some way of identifying the level of knockdown shot within the shot history when practising. Over time I'm sure I'll know for each club how far a 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 swing will go, but for the moment I don't, hence picking a target length doesn't solve the problem. I was playing today with targets, and when setting the length using the slider, I thought, wouldn't it be a great idea to have a slider to set & indicate for the club % of swing (each persons interpretation of that for their swing might be different) and this appear in the header in the history page next to the club.

The exclude option (for a given club) would allow, in the absence of a % swing indicator, the ability to play different shots with the same club in the same session, and then only select the shots you want, to see the averages, without having to delete the history of the other shots. Last week I hit 15 shots in one session with a PW, 5 full, 5 x 3/4, and 5 x 1/2 shots I think!! Given it was last week, and Im getting old, there was no history to indicate exactly what I did, and the average for the 15 shots is meaningless as a result.

I Must investigate "tomsyn" suggestion of using multiple selections of the same club at least as an stop gap solution.

I can see this really coming into play with the new skills challenge functionality to measure performance, as I might want to select the same club at different yardages as part of my goals.

This might be a simplistic view, but... why not just use the range app, and hit shot after shot, and see exactly what your carry for each club and swing percentage is? The skills portion is for confirming what you've learned and developed from using the range.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, we can delete any shot now from the shot history window. As for the shorter swings, right now you'll just need to use club "none". I put that in there for just that reason - so those swings don't skew your averages for clubs. But we'll be looking at something in Game Improvement to target wedges, and your request will be honored

tried the skills challenge yesterday. It was super fun! i actually did better than i thought i would for not swinging a club for a week and having a boot on my ankle.

I love the skills assessment. Great addition. The one thing I wish is that I had the option of only 1 shot per target (this goes for closest to pin and target practice, too), so I didn't repeat the same club multiple times. I try to switch clubs for every shot as if on a course.

      Thanks for early access here.

This is tricky because we need at least 3 shots to generate shot dispersion ellipses. However, this request could be honored if combined with the repeat function. So basically you can choose 1 shot at each, but you are required to complete the assessment 3 times, which will all be tallied to a final result.

Gotcha. Makes sense. If it could just be 3 total laps through the 1 shot skills assessment, that'd be neat.

1 shot in closest to the pin would be pretty easy, I would think.

Yep, I asked about a random function and If I understood the reply correctly that is something they are working on and might be in the final build. So, you pick 3 shots each but random clubs are selected so never hit the same shot first. even better would be one that allows you to pick them or a easy, med, advance where the clubs would be in order for easy, 1 shot each, for med peraps long, med, short, then advance just crazy order.

        Hi Seth...
yep - it's an Aussie thing again.... LOL

but even when metres is setup at the initial log in screen , the skills assessment is still in yards.. will this get changed at the final release?

but also.. with the practice greens.. when you setup practice greens on the range, they are in yards.. but when you go back to the range, it says metres, but they really aren't. that is...

I setup the practice green in say 80 yards.. which converts to 72metres.

I go back to the practice range - it says the green is 80 metres away... yet... I hit an 80m shot according to skytrak and it goes flying over the back of the green.

I think someone just changed the Y to a M when it came to the distances and didn't do a proper distance conversion if you catch my drift.. when setting up the practice green on the range.

Hmmm, sorry about that. I addressed it above too, but yes I will look into it. I'm sure just an oversight. Dang Aussies

I understand the screen real estate is limited, however it would be great to have the "flight seconds", "Height" and "decent angle" displayed on the screen for the most recent shot. How about the following:

        1. Move the Replay and Delete buttons each to the lower left and right corners of the screen
        2. Move the Wind indicator to the top right, near the battery indicator
        3. Frees up nearly the entire top of the screen for the three new sets of numbers

When you're trying to improve at golf - what use could you possibly have for the flight time of the ball? Please save screen real estate for things actually have a real use.

Hahaha. This is my sentiment as well. But... most of my misses were short, not so much left or right. So I backed down the ranges about 10 yards and saw better success.

One thing I really like about this is it's not just hits or misses, it's proximity to the hole that plays a role. Especially as you get closer to the green in distance.

hi SkyTrak_Seth am i missing if it is carry distance or total distance for the final shot reading?! I am not sure - and is it possible to select one of each of the other to target for the test? I dont see it mentioned here - as said i may have missed it though.
