  • Skytrak 2?

    Hi guys,

Apologies, I'm sure this has been asked before. The only thing stopping me purchasing is the delay between hitting and seeing the ball flight. This isn't an issue if using at an outdoor range but i'm looking to setup an indoor practice facility for the winter and for me is a deal breaker.

Even the ES16 has a long (imo) delay before displaying the data, the only ball measuring unit system i've seen with near instant displaying of the shot is the GC2.

Why is there such a delay?

Will there be a Skytrak 2 coming out that solves this (for me) issue?

Skytrak looks very accurate and well priced but i'd be very interested in a Skytrak that was faster to display the shot.

Anyone able to offer any words? SkyTrak_Seth

    Thanks

If delay is important to you (which I fully agree) you need to look at the ProTee. The moment the ball hits the screen, the shot is displayed. I agree with you, to me it is critical for the simulator experience....but then again, I just shelled out the money for a nvidia 1070, and a new i7 quad core system so that I can run at max fps without any stuttering......some guys would rather have the ease of setup, mobility, etc that come with a skytrak...nothing wrong with that....but if you want a permanent system with tons custom settings and instant shot display and great for both left and right hand golfers, you need to look at the ProTee.....

Are there any videos showing Skytrak and TGC with 1.5 and 2 second delays? YouTube videos all seem to show 3-4 seconds.

2-3 sec wouldn't bother me, but 10 would be a hassle. I'm about to pull the trigger on a ST, but I'm really curious about the shot delay. I'd hate to get it set up and then realize I need a $1k iPad or new laptop.

10 seconds would be remarkably slow, and unusual given the experience of most here who have commented about shot display delay times. I use an older laptop with no dedicated graphics, and my delay is maybe 4 seconds-ish? It doesn't bother me at all.

has anyone seen a video of anything around 1.5 - 2 seconds? and does updates to the skytrak fix any delay at all? i understand it is pc that counts, but surely the sky track can send some data through faster? i don't think there is a micro usb to usb 3.0? not that i am aware of... that might help... 2.0 is pretty old

My delay is not even 2 seconds... The delay has actually helped me complete and hold my follow thru. I went back and forth with SkyTrak or going with Protee. I am very happy I stuck with my Skytrak unit. Took a cruise and there is nothing like hitting throw away golf balls into the Pacific ocean while on vacation and getting a reading. Sky track is awesome and very accurate.. Chipping in simulation on WGT has been an issue, but WGT is terrible.

Are you able to upload a video for us to see? It seems no one apart from you and YonexMan have seen under 2 seconds!

For ME that is fine as a practice tool but i'd would like something quicker for simulation. I'm not saying i'm correct and you guys are wrong just me preference.

Sorry, no video. But doing a lot of comparisons with different hardware I have (I work in IT Support) I've found that the big thing that makes the difference is the dedicated video card and the USB 3 speed ports.

On other machines I have running on-board video card and USB2 - I get somewhere around 2 to 3 seconds delay and that is with an i5 processor.

Having the USB3 and dedicated high end graphics card (the machine that was tested was going to be used for gaming) made a big difference.

i have not been able to get below a three second at all with my computer I would love to see a video on how you get below 2 secs or below as i know what I am running out of my computer can not be touched. the lag does not bother me that much but the fluctuation between times of 3 sometimes 4 seconds but waiting anticipating a shot then its a non registered shot and its a what the heck moment. that's whats frustrating.

I think an option which reads calculating would be nice...WGT does this.

On another note. I was able to tee it up on a really nice setup the other day and when there is NOT delay it is much better. However, since I am use to the delay it is fine. Is the delay worth another 5000? Not right now. Perhaps after a year or two it would be a nice upgrade - too much money spent already.

No one with 1-2 seconds delay willing to make a short clip and upload for us to see?

Here is a video that compares USB vs Wifi shot delay with TGC/Skytrak.

TGC running on a 2015 Macbook Pro 15" with AMD dedicated graphics.

I now run TGC on my desktop PC (Core i7, Nvidia 970, 16GB ram), and I THINK shot delay is a little bit better it might be 3.5 - 4.5 seconds on the PC.

I dont believe USB 2 or USB 3 makes any difference...as the Skytrak unit has a USB 2 interface. Plugging it into a USB 3 computer makes no difference.

To the OP, I think we've hit the threshold of ~1.5 minimum delay with a really fast PC. I don't see that getting any faster with our current product. As others mentioned, the delay really is a non-issue once you've started using the system - just enough time to finish your swing properly and look. It all depends on what you need out of a launch monitor though. I certainly wouldn't wait on a SkyTrak gen 2 if you are in the market now.

I believe TGC-spec should do it. Ours is about there, let me see if I can grab a video quick.

                            What's considered "TGC spec"?
