  • To owners of E6 Connect and TGC2019...

Which do you prefer? Now that E6 Connect is becoming available for GCQuad, I'm trying to decide which to buy. I already have FSX 2020, which is great for the range, but the graphics are a bit lacking and I want my guests to have the "wow" factor when they come over for sim golf.

I already own TGC, so I'm looking at a $500 upgrade to TGC2019, vs $2500 to buy E6 Connect (and maybe a subscription fee to boot if I want more courses.) The big negatives with TGC2019 are that it isn't guaranteed to work, being an unsupported program with a third party interface that recently had some issues. That and it is an adaptation of a video game, rather than being a full blown sim. I know that it has a massive amount of courses, however, my experiences with TGC had me mostly playing the courses that came with it, as I found almost all of the user created courses to be disappointing, so that isn't as big of an influence in this decision for me. And as a small thing, I hate playing from the ball. I really like having the program know the dimensions of my simulator enclosure and starting the sim flight from the screen position at impact. I also like the almost zero delay I've seen E6 have.

So, I'd like to hear some thoughts from those who use both!

    Thanks,

    Bob

Just a note that e6 had its beginnings as a video game as well.

E6 connect had a demo version. Not sure if that would be available for the Quad but if it is, would be worth trying.

Yeah, I’d be all over that, to the point where I inquired yesterday. There is no Foresight E6 demo available.

          TGC 2019 works just fine
completely different to TGC, course quality superb with so many awesome Lidar courses thanks to some superb course designers on this forum.
TGC 2019 can be offset to suit any set up so ball appears from your Centre line of you area.

They're both great, pros and cons to each, so it's important to determine your priorities. I'd have a tough time deciding if I had to keep only one. I wrote up a comparison article on them:

A comprehensive comparison of the two most popular golf simulator software packages on the market.

The big and important differences to me:

E6 Connect: way better practice facilities, and "practice mode" where you can hit a bucket of balls from any position on a course, easily. Up to 8 players locally. Scramble mode (often the fastest/funnest mode of play with buddies). Can play a subset of holes on any course without having to concede holes (and ruin your scorecard). Simpler UI, single app so no separate interface app to launch. Every course is professionally designed and surrounding architecture matches closely to reality. Growing community of online players. Updates are frequent, bugs get fixed. Ball physics have no surprises.

TGC2019: Thousands of great courses, and potential to have your local courses added if they're not in there already. Big community of online players. Slightly better graphics, particularly on and around greens. One-time purchase. Snarky announcer if you like that. Gallery watching in society and tournament play if you like that.

I agree. If you care about practicing then E6 is the better option. TGC has all the courses built by all the users so you get some great ones and alot of garbage ones as well.

I chose E6 over TGC mostly for the practice stuff alone

So the practice piece would be huge, because the primary goal with building this setup is to give myself a home driving range, except I do already have FSX 2020. FSX is a great piece of software and it really shines for practice. However, the graphics lag behind by a lot and I feel like I’m also going to be spending a lot of days this winter with my normal Sunday foursome playing sim golf and drinking beers, and for that I really feel like better graphics are in order. So either should fit the bill there.

In regards to the number of poor quality courses in tgc2019, e6 maxes out at I think like 96 courses. There are way more than 96 high quality courses in tgc2019. So even if you throw out all the bad ones and even all the mediocre ones, you are still left with way more than 96 courses. Plus more being added all the time and the ability to design your own if you wish.

It also seems like the online tournament atmosphere is much bigger in tgc2019, which I think is the best part of the game. And with e6 you have to pay a subscription fee to access the tournament play or peer to peer play.

The only reservation you should have is that tgc2019 is not officially supported by your current setup. Which of course is a big thing to consider.

e6 connect has dispersion of carry (Impact) which is vital for practice, not found this on FSX2020 yet or a way to work it out, although have requested it, fsx2020 offline stat is related to total (carry+roll). Even the creative3Dgolf demo had Carry dispersion.

The FSX software is best for practice even though graphics are not the best. FSX offers great data that you will not find anywhere else. As far as carry dispersion goes, I only see total shot dispersion on FSX. E6 has better course play, bright graphics and ease of accessing good courses as they are all professionally designed. Before I purchased Quad I did use my uneekor with E6 a lot for the driving range but now that I have FSX/Quad I have little use for E6 range. TGC I enjoy the Society feature where you can play in weekly tournaments. E6 has a few competitions built in each month but no real events that I have seen. TGC does offer a lot of cool courses that you cant find anywhere else. I still like to use Creative Golf Range over any other 3rd party ranges, great data.

Quick update- I touched base to see if I could buy TGC 2019 and if I couldn’t get the interface working, return it. The answer in short was that GCQ isn’t supported, buy at your own risk. So I guess that is weighing in most right now, the prospect of paying for something I can’t use.

Seems like the Quad is only an update away from blocking out the hostile interface for TGC 2019. Hence my apprehension to purchase.
