So, a GTX 770 is a great card for TGC.

Hey guys... Turns out my laptop isn't equipped well enough to run TGC. This is a must for my simulator. I need a new gaming desktop, and while I'm technically proficient in most things, I know nothing about putting together a computer. Any recommendations for something plenty fast enough for TGC, that is under $2000k and comes together out of the box? Thanks for your help!

For 2000$ you can probably buy a gaming PC from alienware or something like that. That's more than enough money.

JV17, the only thing I would change there is to go with an 850W power supply. It's cheaper when you're getting it build.

i7 vs AMD FX8350?

The i7 is clearly faster but either one is fine. The bottle neck will usually be the video card. AMD FX8350 is cheaper. You can use the money you saved to get a better video.

No. Nvidia GTX780. GTX780ti if you got the money. GTX770 will still get you 35-45 fps on high settings and object at 3.

suggestion for those who have built there own comps--- I have 3 pcs that ive built since 2001... the last one was 4 years ago. they all still run and have been upgraded to keep up along the way.
I see some great builds on this post- but I think instead of doing it all again-I may just go buy one of those blow out deals and just upgrade the power supply and video card-
I cant find a way to put one together that incudes the OS cheaper than these other guys... still going to run $800+ when finished but it should save a few bucks and be less hassle in the long run..
just a thought.

Hey everyone... ok, I just bought a Dell 8700 (I think), it's an i7 (4th Gen), Windows 7 Professional, 8GB (expandable to 32GB), 1TB hard drive ($770, you can save another $100 if you drop the MacAfee protection - I have protection already, and the 1 year of phone support from Dell, so $670), I think it has a GeForce Graphics 7200? Card (1GB) in it. I think this thing will give me plenty of horsepower for designing courses too with TGC. It turns out that Dell says on their home page that they have these extra Win 7 machines around that they want to get rid of, I"m all for it... I can't stand Win 8, and I'm not waiting around for Win 9, which is probably at least another 6 months to 1 year away.

Anyway, as a computer programmer, I've been back and forth between AMD and Intel, but it always seems that Intel runs faster overall, so I'm curious why everyone up here is running AMD's? I know the chips run a little cooler, but I've always gotten better performance from Intel, and I've also ran into issues with some AMD machines not being perfectly compatible with sound cards, etc

So, tell me, why did you choose AMD?

Brett,

That GeForce 7200 is a very low end graphics card. It might even be built into the motherboard. You must replace it ASAP. Go with a GTX670($150+) or better. Make sure you have a 750W or higher power supply.

I've been using AMD for years. No issues. The latest Intel I7's are faster compared to the fastest AMD, but the graphics card will be the bottle neck. Save money on CPU and spend it on a better graphics card.
