Ryan, just saw this... You may have Power issues. 500W is a little low. See the beginning of this thread. Looks good other than that. Good luck!

  • The power supply may need to get changed it is only 500w. I figure that we will see how it goes. If it crashes, then a new power supply will be installed. Probably another $100.

    • This HP Envy 750 system is assembled by a professional company (HP). They must know what they are doing when advertising a "Gaming Desktop" with a GTX 970.

        • Just finally got the requirements I believe to run TGC with:
          i7 -2600s processor
          8 gig ram
Gtx 950 video card up from a gt620

Should be good to go I think

          • Personally, I would shoot for a GTX 960 or 770. Or even better yet, a GTX 970. I think the 950 might be the bare minimum.

            • When looking for a good graphics card, don't get hung up on the first number in the name. Example, just because it is a 950 it is not better than a 7##. Its more the 2nd number that can make the difference. I think my 780 card is still one of the better ones for speed. There was a link in another post with graphic card comparisons. That was a good reference. Do not cheap out on the card, you will kick yourself later.

The link was in this thread here: http://www.hwcompare.com/20595/gefor...force-gtx-780/

              • Is this overkill for TGC?

                iBuyPower Gaming PC

I'll probably only be doing 1080p rather than 4k. This is very highly rated on NewEgg. While I certainly don't want to spend extra money if it isn't needed, the extra $200-400 is probably worth it in light of the cost of the whole system assuming it means that there will be no limitations from the PC side (which I've ready is very important).

                Thanks.

Should work well, not terribly overkill, but it should allow you some future proofing so you aren't needing to upgrade anything for awhile. Windows 8.1 sucks, only downside I see. I would recommend building it yourself but this is a good option otherwise.

              • Do people play TGC online over wifi or is that a bad idea? The area of the room I want to put the PC doesn't have an ethernet cable nearby. I can run a new one but that would mean cutting some new holes, patching and painting which I would prefer not to have to do. I would think that wifi should be good enough these days (either N or AC) but not really sure. Is there much else that would require heavy networking related to a golf simulator other than playing somebody else online?

                Thanks.

I play TGC with a GC2 on a high end gaming laptop. I use the built in bluetooth card on the laptop which is at least 6 feet from the GC2 and I also jump on the wifi from a router next door(via UK BTWifi where some of their bandwidth is automatically shared for public access).

In short - yes, you can play TGC over Wifi.

              • Starting to get everything in line for my simulator setup. Looks like this works and not a bad price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nvidia-Gefor...item35f1febf5c I might still end up building one out and getting a GTX 980 card for the $100 more and a bigger PSU. We'll see.

                • I've been out of the game a long time on the PC side. Does anyone know if you will see any difference from the Intel I7 PC and the AMD high end?

Stay away from AMD. They are so far behind intel when it comes to gaming. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...lock,3106.html Make sure that you look at the hierarchy chart. For example my 2nd gen i7 is one level higher than the highest AMD. AMD's current high end does not match the current i5's Tomshardware is a great source for comparing computer parts. Please note that the 6th gen i7 is not in the review as it was done in June.

                • Okay, I apologize in advance for my ignorance as I am somewhat computer illiterate! I am anxiously awaiting the release of TGC to add simulator capability to my SkyTrak and I am trying to decide what type of computer I should buy to run the simulator. Cost is not an a big issue but of course do not want to spend any more than I need to. Here are a few of my questions and I appreciate any help you guys could provide.

                  1) My projector is only capable of 720p and I am not looking at upgrading anytime soon as 720p graphics have seemed good enough for me thus far. With that being said, since I will not need the maximal resolutions do I still need an upgraded graphics card and power supply? I am not terribly concerned about having high end graphics, however I do not want to make sure it does not effect gameplay (such as flickering during ball flight). Listed below are my current PC specs which is not a gaming computer:

                  Processor: Core i5 3.0GHZ
                  Graphics Card: Geforce GT 620
                  Memory: 8GB RAM
                  Hard Drive: 1TB
Power supply: ??? (Currently at work but will try to check when I get home)

                  2) If I do need an upgraded graphics card could I just swap out my current graphics card and if so what is the minimum power supply I would need?

                  3) If it would be best to build or buy a new system for the simulator can anyone recommend a good place to but a prebuilt or custom PC? I have tried building an AlienWare PC on Dell's website but can not find any specs regarding power supply.

Thanks in advance and I apologize again for my ignorance.

                  • Your processor should be ok. Do you know what generation it is? If it is an older i5, it may slow things down a bit.
Your graphics card is a problem. The GT 620 will not play TGC. To play TGC at medium settings you would need a GTX670 or better. To play on high settings I would suggest a GTX 970 or better. Power requirements can be found for graphics cards at good computer site like memoryexpress.com Canada only.
                    Memory should be fine.
Hard drives do not make a big difference in gaming. Faster hard drives, (SSD's) just load things faster. They don't make a big difference during game play.
Power supply... your graphics card will dictate how large of a PSU you will need. The higher end cards require more power. If you Graphics card has a minimum of 500 watts required, it is a good idea to exceed that by a bit. 600-650 watts would be a better choice. If you are thinking of someday running 2 graphics cards at once, you would want 1000-1200 watts. TGC plays fine on one GTX 970.

I can tell you what I have.

2600k i7 at 3.4Ghz, 16 gigs of ram at 2133 MHz, GTX 970 , PSU 1000 watts, 500 GB SSD, I recently when from a GTX 680 to a GTX 970. I sold my GTX 680 for $240 so the upgrade cost me about $200 Cnd. I ran both cards with TGC on High but there are settings within the game to make things look even better.

680... I ran object detail 3 High quality tree count at min and high quality tree distance at min. The game played at about 35 FPS
970.... I run object detail 5 , tree count at 1600 and tree distance at 320. The game plays at 35 FPS.
Download a program called FRAPS to check your frames per second. Above 30 FPS is playable but you really want 35-45FPS to ensure smooth play all the time.
I have tried turning up the distance and the count to max. I don't see a noticeable quality difference other than my FPS drops below playable levels.

What is most important in a gaming computer is the graphics card, then processor and ram, Hard drives mean very little to gaming. The PSU needs to be enough to power you video card or else your system will crash.

Here is a quick link to compare computer parts.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/ from here you can compare graphics cards, processors, and hard drives.
Make sure that you look at the hierarchy charts within each chart. Here you can compare one card to another or one processor to another. Notice that 2 gen i7 processors are ranked higher for gaming that the latest AMD chip.

No need to apologize for ignorance. I have learned a lot by reading this forum. Gaming computers is one area where I have extensive experience. I have been building my own gaming rigs since Pentium 166 MHz with MMX. MMX was a big deal in the 90's

Expect to pay $1100 -$2000 for a good gaming computer. If you live in Canada, shop at memoryexpress.com for your parts. If needed they will assemble the computer for you as well.

                    I hope that helps.

                      Awesome, appreciate all the information.

                  • Is there any chance of a surface pro 3 or 4 being able to handle TGC? Or something of a smaller form factor than a heavy spec'd desktop? Also if a desktop is the only option for high performace, a few months ago davray666 talked about steam streaming capabilities. Would that be an option to use a desktop to power TGC and display it on a smaller form factor such as a tablet or laptop? I only ask since I have a powerful desktop, but would prefer to not keep it in the garage through the winter months or if it stays in the garage I'll need to keep heat above freezing instead of just warming up the garage when I plan on playing. Anybody else using a desktop that they don't want to keep in their garage?

By the way. Perfect golf Steam version is also the sim version. So there it will work, but it might take a year or 2 before it's released. Nobody knows.

Air cooled gaming machines do not need to be stored in above freezing temps. Water cooled.... you may need to add antifreeze...... just kidding, antifreeze not recommended.

Thanks for the replies guys I guess I'll leave the desktop in the garage and be happy about it! As long as TGC gets here before Xmas. I may look into running an hdmi cable and usb extension cable from my basement to garage as my office and sim space are right next two each other, just different levels if I'm not happy with the desktop in the garage. Hopefully could use teamviewer or some other remote app to control the desktop from garage. Lots of big plans for a sim area that is just a "range" right now.

                  • My sim setup is in the garage. And my PC is in my basement, I ran a USB extension cable and HDMI extension from Basement -> Garage. It's less than a 50' run. I have yet to test TGC over this, since I'm a SkyTrak user.

50 ft of run is questionable with HDMI. If it doesn't work, you can run video over Ethernet cables. you just need a little converter at each end. I have never done it, but I know that the tech is there if you need it.

I'm aware of that concern but needed to test it for myself. I could shorten the run to 35' or use the Ethernet option if needed. Point being is I can't leave a pc in the garage due to temperatures in Midwest US.
