Building a Protee Golf Simulator Computer

For those in the Chicago west suburbs, Microcenter has a great deal on an i5 4690k boxed($180) or i7 4790k boxed($250). There's also an Asus Z97-AR SLI motherboard for $80 after $20 rebate if you buy them together. I just picked up the i7 and motherboard. Good for 2 more days.

Z is right about the card. Also the box store computers typically cheap out and come with 350Watt-400 Watt power supply. You need at least 600 watt to run a good enough video card. So your looking at another 300 bucks in add ons between a decent card and power supply. You can build your own PC for about the $700 price they want including a latest generation Video card. Also you can get a bigger tower case, latest Gen video cards are 10-12 inches long and a tight fit in that XPS case. I know because I upgraded my own 4 year old XPS for my simulator this year.

The computer itself is great but the GTX 745 video card that it comes with is garbage. You would have to price in a GTX 670, 760 and above on top of that deal.

That setup will run TGC on high detail with Object at 2-3. I don't see any difference when moving object up to 4. If you have extra cash, get the 8350.

Going with my recommended above, you can run TGC in high detail with object at 3 or more. Going with the minimum. You'll be playing at low detail or not playing at all.

The unfortunate thing at the moment is that 4k seems to be in the home theatre environment only and does not have the lumens to support a golf sim. Also 4k is over the top price wise for the cost. I'm hoping one year for a more affordable version at least that could make IT worthwhile for a golf sim.

TGC will do 4K if you have a monitor or projector that will support it.

If going with the GTX seriously consider the 970 instead, as bang for your buck goes to the 970 especially if it can do 4k in the future (not tested from what I have read)

Texel rate is probably the biggest factor.

I'm curious Z. I need to get a new PC. The published computer specs are far below the above I believe. What is the benefit of going with the above and what is the drawback with going the minimum route?
