  • Impact Screen 101

The impact screens for golf simulators are critical for its realism. The ideal impact screen will be durable, project well and not have a big bounce back. Most folks will have their sim room double as a theatre room so a good quality projector and impact screen are important. The impact screen may be flat, curved or have 3 screens to present a simulator surround experience. Full swing also has a Pass through screen that is very cool.

Most screens are built with an enclosure or stand alone. often side panels or netting is used to prevent stray balls from doing harm as well as cosmetics of the room. Make sure the screen is loose to prevent any big bounceback.

Certainly one can make an impact screen however various companies make high quality screens.

I went with 1 inch based off what I read somewhere.

I have my setup nearly complete, but one area I haven't tackled yet is how to fasten the impact screen at the bottom. I am getting tons of balls going behind the screen, mostly from putting. What methods of preventing this are you guys using? I have my screen bungied at the top and sides, works great with minimal ball bounce, but still just hanging free at the bottom.

My screen hangs free at the bottom and I don't get his issue. My screen bottom does however come down to the floor with a little extra on the floor and thus nothing rolls behind the screen. If something were to come close to rolling behind, en I also have my conduit pipe that goes across the floor as well.

Is there such a thing as to big of a screen? My room is 18x22 fully devoted to golf ie nothing else in it. My proposed screen size is 14'6"x9. That's dang near the whole 18' wall. Will that be screen overload?

Dougie, no such thing as too big! I have a friend whose screen is the same size as 717's! Looks amazing! Do your homework on the projector and you'll be a happy camper... Or happy golfer I should say!

My screen is a foot in front of the wall and Ive got a net tight enough that it can go back a foot in the center (will hang a blanket back there too for added padding if hits wall). My screen is just tight enough to take wrinkles out. ive noticed that sometimes the balls impact will leave a dimple in the screen. Do I need to adjust the tightness of the screen or net?

A few of us have had screens get holes in them I just ordered from a different place in a different material. It's also very inexpensive. A buddy of mine has had a similar product on his fullswing simulator for years without issue. I'll let you know how it goes once it arrives in a couple weeks.

I wonder if having the screen closer to the wall and having padding on the wall will increase longevity of the material as it won't be stretched. Thoughts?

Don't do that. the ball will bounce off the padding, rocketing back and kill somebody. Speaking from experience....

I followed your recommendations and put netting behind. It's working flawlessly. It was a thought. If it ain't broke, I won't fix it. Lol

I added all the friends today. I'm in for the next tournament. Just getting used to sim golf (short game yardages).

I appreciate the help you gave me. Thanks.
