  • summary of impact screens - price and where to purchase?

so where and how much to purchase an impact screen?
need one for my new project? Garage setup where I plan to use as simulator and also show movies sometimes, video games, etc.

    Par2pro? Amazon, etc?

where you guys buying from these days?

  • #2
I like my Par2Pro screens, mostly. Good image quality and very durable. I just don't like the velcro solution they use for attaching the screens to the top netting if you use netting at the top and behind the screen. But they're great for playing games on and watching tv or movies, too.

thanks Richard. - that's what I was looking at - putting up in my garage and need to have side nets, top nets etc. trying to figure out the minimal distance from back wall etc. haven't figured how I plan to install yet. maybe cable along back of garage.

You'll want about 3 ft of space behind to screen to keep the ball from bouncing off a wall or something. That might be a bit of overkill, but it's the minimum I would consider.

3 feet of you don't have anything behind it. I have netting and 2 inch memory foam mattress toppers behind mine. 7 inches between screen and wall. My bounce back is around 8 feet (almost rolls back to hitting mat) with a high swing speed.

I went with the supertex screen and it looks good for both sim and movies. Plus it was cheaper for a finished edge vs the raw hq. I have mine about 15" from the wall. I could have gotten away with less. I used emt pipe with 4 floor canopy fittings and 2 flat roof corner canopy fittings.

wbond - where did you end up getting the supertex screen?

eBay. It was the cheapest there vs Amazon or directly from their website

I did the raw HQ screen from Cory. Then I'm using clips from Home Depot to hang it on 1 in emt Frame. I saw the clip idea on this forum and it is working out great for me. It allowed me to fit my screen exactly the right size with no sewing just by folding it. Super happy with this set up.

My raw HQ screen just bit the bullet and got 2 nice holes in it now after pretty much exactly a year of very heavy use (was weird because I really didn't see any wear in it until randomly boom a hole in it after a shot, no slow lead up that I noticed at least). It is a very nice screen, a little loud, but picture quality was great. Looking to purchase a new one and re-researching my options. May go HQ again, but was curious on some peoples opinions on their mid to long term results with their screens. Im between the main options of HQ, protee, carl and the supertex/polyester. How is the supertex working out for you so far? Any wear, dents, holes, excessive dirt, etc.? I know this one seems to have the best price, but want the bang for my buck as well.

I know mthunt recently got the protee screen. How is that going so far after the short time you've had it? Feels its worth the more money compared to the HQ screen?

Curious as how others are feeling with their screens as well after some use, and also if anyone out there has had multiple different screens and how they compared to one another

Do they sell bigger side nets that'll go with this?

They sell side nets but not sure if bigger ones. I sorta like the smaller footprint. They also have bigger studio - the 13 model. I like the fact you can put and take down in about 45 min. I do not intend to take mine down but maybe someday if I have folks over and a nice night I can move it outside or something. I also like everything needed in a singe package. I will still call par2pro and ask them about options.

        Hi doublebogey

Yep we sell side panels as an add on. We just go back from The Memorial golf tournament where the Nicholaus group invited us to set up that studio and show off JNPG. With the side panel extensions we had no problem keeping balls contained.

We will be presenting our new studio at the BMW championship which is a FedEx cup event later in the summer. We will be offering a more conventional looking studio. It will have a floating floor and we are hoping to pull off a projector bar as an option. The bar will obviously hold a projector along with lighting and cameras for Protee. Below is a similar design for reference that Full Swing offers. Along with the new studio design we will hopefully be offering a new Protee Turf top to go with it. Below is a prototype one that we have designed.

By the way, Im very surprised that our screen fabric doesn't get more love. Yea is is extremely expensive but there is a reason for that. The fabric is 3D. It is basically 2 tightly woven pieces separated by thousands of fishing line like fibers. This creates a screen that is as close to a projector screen as you are ever going to get from an impact screen material. We have a video about the fabric on our videos pages on our website golfsimulatorguys.com

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

I have the HQ and ProTee. The negatives of HQ are it is really loud, I t bounces back a lot and although mine lasted a solid year, it doesn't look too tough. I know other have gone through it. It actually looks like it's just a fabric intended for something else. I could be wrong. When I got it, I thought it was just white denim. Keep in mind mine is backed by a net then memory foam 5 inches behind the screen. The positive is the picture is pretty solid.

When I opened the ProTee screen it really looked like a screen. The picture is bright and good. When you hit the screen to a lot less quite and it hits very dead. The ball just drops. The only negative is it puddles a little when hit in the same spot a lot. It's pretty minor and I'm thinking about titening it so see if that flattens it.

For my money, the benefits of the ProTee are better than the negatives. I prefer the ProTee.

I did take a peek at this screen as well and have watched the video of the screen as well and cant really tell its much different than other ones that are much less in cost from the video. Would be great to hear more user reviews and/or videos comparing the picture quality and durability to the other screens out there. I would be willing to put up the bigger bucks for it if I really knew for sure it was going to last me much longer than the year the HQ one did and was somehow better than the others. Not doubting that it might be better than the others but just tough for me to pay that much when I cant tell for sure based off the info/lack of user reviews that are out there. They all say super durable and have great picture quality in the descriptions, but who knows which one is the best and true to their claims.

I like this review, definitely the type of description I was hoping to see comparing screens. I had that same feeling when I first opened the HQ screen. After I hung it and used it, it look great but was always much louder than commercial sim places Ive been to and felt like it was just a random strong material. Ultimately I just accepted it and figured "ok, everyone else seems to like it, lets give it a go", but didn't really feel fully like a screen. And to be honest I was very pleased how it performed for golf and movies, but now after busting a couple holes in it after a year, Im looking to improve on it, and the loudness as well. The puddling and/or dents in the screen is a concern to me, but that sounds like it just need a quick tightening, Id be curious if that fixes it. One think I did like about he HQ is I didn't really see any permanent dents left in the screen at all during use.

PM me. I will sell a screen at a discounted price and you can spread the word about our screen. No way you will hit a hole through ours and it is as quite as a screen can be.

Can you comment on what kind of balls you were using? Interested to know if the ProV1 story is true. (That apparently ProV1's are tough on screens.)

Also - did you have a net backing up the impact screen?

          • #11
Well, i've only had mine (supertex version) about 3 months so not very long. There is no wear at all. It still looks like i just pulled it out of the box. It's very clean, but i make sure to only use new balls and always have my clubs clean. The screen was designed to have 1" pvc covered with the foam wrap to go inside of the sleeves on the sides. Then it is supposed to use three straps per side to pull it tight. I'm currently using this method and since it's only pulling in 3 spots, it doesn't really get the waves out. I've already bought the tarp clips and when i get a chance, I will be switching over to these to see if it improves this. Also because of the lack of uniform tension, it does puddle a little at the impact area. I don't find it very loud at all, driver is definitely louder than the screen. The benefits for me is the cost, especially for getting a finished edge and the image quality. The image is quite good, but I was coming from a PR20 so take that for what it's worth.

I was really interested in the one mentioned above until i saw the price. That is quite a bit of money, so even if i go through 1 per year, it's going to take me 8 years to break even. How is a screen going to look after that long anyway and who knows what will change in that time. It does sound like a very nice impact screen though.

Interesting thread. I have an HQ2 screen as well. I do like it, but it would be really nice to have something quieter without having to do a lot of extra work. I'll probably keep this screen until I put a hole in it though.

Either way keep it coming with reviews of other screens. Thanks.

Sadly yea, ive used mostly pro v1x balls for the life of the screen. I bought a 100 of the AAAAA mint used balls and they look brand new and was switching them out semi regularly. I did use the screen a crap load for the year ive had it. I also did have a net behind it but in hindsight now not sure if it was tight enough against it. I thought it was at the time I set it up but second guessing myself now. That is one of the reason I was thinking about trying the HQ again and maybe using some moving mats behind it with the net a little tighter, but wanted to see if there was something better out there at controlling the sound as well as having the high durability with my proV1s.

Curious about the Carl premium screen too, the close up looks pretty much exactly like the HD golf impact screen. Again the reason why its so tough to spend the big bucks on some of these when for all I know they are the same thing and one could be selling it for half the price. The material seems to look the same. Any word on what the difference is between your screen and carls premium bionicboogerboy

Anyone out there have carl's premium screen as well and can review it? Loving these discussions, makes a huge difference to people researching it down the line

Would love to hear opinions on this. I don't plan on a new screen anytime soon, but if I was confirmed a quieter screen then HQ with similar results I would consider.

We tested 3D fabrics for almost 2 years before we release ours last year. Most dent. Once it starts denting the fabric breaks down and there will be a hole in it shortly thereafter. I can't speak to theirs. Just looking at his sizes I don't see anything that has a smaller dimension of over 9'6". We are 10' wide and can cut to length.

Our core business isn't selling stand alone fabric. We know our prices are high. The reason is that we had this fabric designed specifically for us. We didn't buy it off the shelf from a fabric distributor. We told our mill we need to get prices down and we are working on it.
