  • From skytrak to pro-tee build out

Never thought I would do this but I have just updated my skytrak to the protee. I never thought the amount of work it was going to take to do this upgrade but wow I am surprised on the amount of energy and money that has left my wallet and the amount of hours getting this ready for the arrival of the pro-tee, First off I want to give props to Dennis at Pro-tee who spent his weekend online back and forth on emails helping me get the perfect set up and what was necessary to get ready for the new unit. But I wanted to share this and see if anyone has any thoughts for more improvement on getting this ready for tomorrows UPS delivery. Again thank you Dennis you were a great help

What made you move to the GC2/HMT? Were you not happy with ProTee?

I have not moved to the GC2, I play with both systems and the protee is still being used its just under the GC2 mat that is in pics, I am a left hander and my wife and kids are right which makes the protee a great system for that reason alone. I also find that the protee is bullet proof, we had a christmas get together and had a couple drunk guys that wanted to play golf, GC2 is hidden and protee worked awesome nothing got broken. But with me getting a hold of GC2 units and selling these I got one also and have a new toy. And this is a by the way information I still have 6 GC2 left to sell that just arrived (thank goodness) these units are great units and are priced to sell at around the 4200.00 mark for whoever wants one.

I was going to buy one from my local GolfSmith. The price would have been great. I am sure I could have gotten it for $2,500 - $3,000. In hindsight I probably should have grabbed one but I really wanted the HMT and hadn't fully gotten the idea in my head that I was going to build a sim. I currently have a FlightScope that I use on the range but am very interested in the Simulator now. Do you have any constructive comparisons between the units? If you could only have one, would it be an easy choice? Do they give you similar measurements? Sorry for all the questions but I am sure I will be purchasing one of these units soon (and knowing me ill probably end up with both like you).

I doubt 3000 would have gotten one i am buying bulk and I have a price that is approved by liquidators and is a lot more then 3000 as competing with some others through out the world put some of these to a bidding war. golf smith has no authority on sale of these and if you got lucky and bought one of these most likely you had to buy everything. On the units though they are two different machines and play different. Both have pros and cons if I am alone I find myself playing GC2 more so

To be specific, it was during their BK liquidation. They had 4 units with software for sale. Their initial offer was $4500 with 30% off. I didn't end up buying one because I was still in the mindset of using my flightscope outdoors (which I am happy with) and wasn't entertaining an indoor golf sim yet. Are you buying both the GC2 + HMT? What are you selling the combo for? Thank you.

getting Aaron or Vicki to buy off on that would have been tricky

I see you have the GC2 now.. but how would you compare the Skytrack vs the Protee? Which would you recommend? I am trying to decide what to go with now for a permanent space setup. They both seem to have benefits and downsides.

i am not a fan of skytrak what so ever so i am pretty biased. on the the protee it is a really good system that you can play both left handed and right handed which is the reason i bought it if you have kids or drunk friends over its bullet proof. it has no delay on shots with TGC the set up is a bear but once its done it plays true to numbers, the downside is you can not play JNPG and it calculates ball spin is really it, on the skytrak the downside is shot delay, disconnects can not chip from short, putts are offline.

I have to disagree on the disconnects and chipping. I can chip from 4 or 5 yards no issues...I think you have witnessed it first hand. disconnects - use to have them, but new kick ass router and hard wired everything....never get them anymore. Just sharing my view my friend and hoping can help someone else who uses skyrak to enjoy it to the fullest.

I was trying to be nice on it Penrose if you look at the start i even called it a SKYTRAK instead of OPTITRAK, i can name 10 guys right now who bought or in the process of buying a GC2 that would take exceptions on chipping issues and putting let me know i will send you who they are as you already know most of them. i played two rounds yesterday and had a total of 3 disconnects with two different players. but skytrak is affordable and if thats what someone can afford it is worth it for sure to buy and deal with the issues because your at least playing

Skytrak to ProTee is not a downgrade other than losing portability.

tl;dr version: i have owned protee, skytrak, es16 and gc2. i would put skytrak and protee about even. jury is still out on es16. gc2 wins.

there are pros and cons with all systems. skytrak is great for the money. the main issue is that it has a hard time reading the very short bump and run chip. there is a tgc workaround where it reads launch without spin and calculates/assumes back spin and zero side spin. it also has around a 3-4 second shot to show delay. protee is the best for righty/lefty play and has the fastest shot to show in TGC. putting with the protee putting sensor is very accurate. without it, you put on the main sensor but you have to adjust your stance if you tend to put your head over the ball which casts a shadow over the sensors. the issue protee has is the high launching lob wedge. there are settings to overcome this but you will still get the occasional excessively long lob shot. setup is more complex but you can tweak it to be very accurate. gc2 is great but it's expensive and not great for righty/lefty play/ putting is not as good as protee's putting sensor because of it's 0.4% horizontal tolerance but skytrak has a bigger tolerance at 2%. shot to show is about 1 second or less. i don't know any of my boys will be lefties but by the time they are old enough, there will hopefully be something even better available.
