Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Has anyone done an in-depth review of the 2nd screen yet? I've been trying to check in to see if there was anything new but seems like folks have just been adding their names to the next list. I'm curious about the wear, if any, along with any advice on mounting a raw version of the screen. I was just going to grommet 3 sides and either use an EMT frame or bungee to angle iron...my main concern is if I'm going to add insulation to my room (roxul) and try to cut down on noise/vibration is there a good way to mount where I am not actually securing this to a framed wall or floor joists. My build is in my basement and I have a 17' x 10' screen. I've hung my screen temporarily just to see what the picture looks like and so far it is WAY better than the Supertex in terms of clarity. It's amazing how grainy the Supertex looks compared to this screen IMO.

If anyone has a decent review or input on how to get the best hanging results I'd be interested to hear.

I’m also curious if everyone was happy with the last run. I am able to get the cost down a little further by increasing volume. BUT this will be a big a commitment and I want to make sure everyone is happy before we pull the trigger.

I’m very happy with mine. Originally I didn’t secure mine on the sides or bottom but ended up putting some 2x4s along the bottom behind the screen to keep it somewhat taught horizontally. I was having to constantly fix the screen after every shot but now I can play almost an entire round without adjusting it. Again, nothing to compare this to since this is my first sim but I’m very happy overall

Did you secure the 2x4 to the screen or was just the weight of the 2x4 on some of the excess material at the bottom enough to make a difference? I was wondering about doing something similar.

I'm also very happy with my screen. Can't speak of long term durability. I play 3-4 times per week. My screen shows no signs of damage.
