  • Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Please advise any interest or questions.

  • Can someone tell me the avg distance of the edge of the screen to your frame/mount when using tarp clips vs using a finished edge screen with grommets. I'm looking into both versions for my sim and want to get maximum screen size for my space. Also is there a certain brand of tarp clip that is smaller than others that people recommend or even ball bungee sizes.

    • So are you better off ordering the screen a little bigger and folding the edges then attaching the tarp clips? I'm thinking just attach the new screen to the old with the tarp clips and keep my Velcro straps and then I would have another layer behind the new screen? Thoughts?

Order it longer and fold over the excess. Then if/when it starts to wear unroll the excess to give you a new impact area.

      • Just to catch up the new folks, I believe right now Daniel is in a holding pattern. He is finishing up the last roll he got for people who ordered a while back. If I understand correctly, he will be starting a website to order from now on.

        • Hi Daniel,
It appears you may be on hold, but if you have any excess or new rolls incoming, I would like a 10x10 or 10x12. Thanks!

I just got mine and used the slightly shinier side for front. I figured it would have better image than other side...

          • Hi - Can anyone help on shipping label process, as it’s been a couple of years since my last one.....

if using Fedex, which option do I choose for pickup? (Pickup/ schedule a pickup/ drop off ??)

for or pick up address - is this the same as before (Decatur GA30030)

Fedex express saver, or fed ex home delivery seem cheapest.... assume I can use either?!

Thereafter I think I just email pdf of voucher ???

            cheers

            • Mines been sitting in a box for quite some time, finally got around to hanging it today. Lots of wrinkles from being folded in the box.
Is it ok to use a steamer on it, or what is the best way to get out the creases?

Just let it hang... they will eventually go away.

You’ll wind up like another guy in this thread that got water marks all over his.

Some one else said to put a tee shirt over the steamer to help with the water marks but is it worth it? The canvas is so heavy that they will go away. I had wrinkles in mine and they were gone after a few days/rounds. Be patient or risk ruining the screen.

I just had mine shipped to Alberta and the UPS label was $85 and the customs brokerage fee was $80.
