  • Fiberbuilt mat too easy to hit off of?

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I kind of like my sim to be 'tough' because the goal is to get better for the real world. I had a gel insert with some carpet and 1/8" plastic in my hitting area. I was freaking tough to hit on, if you it it heavy even in the slightest you were severely punished.

However that mat was taking a toll on my hands/knuckles. I just installed a fiberbuilt hitting area since it's easiest on the body. I have to say it's so easy to hit off of, I worry that it doesn't simulate real life at all.

In my experience the Fiberbuilt insert is more penal on fat shots as the club goes under the ball and you hit it high on the face, killing your distance. With a standard mat the club bounces up into the ball and still give you close to normal distance on less than perfect impact.

I have a fiberbuilt. Used it for about 3 weeks and then stopped. I found that it actually hurt my outside game. I started chunking it outside. I have a mat that penalizes you if you hit it a little fat. It grabs the club and really slows down ball speed.

I don't think you have to be as precise on the strike on fiberbuilt as cce but cce was hurting my back and elbows. I will never go back to cce and haven't had difficulty playing outdoors after using fiberbuilt but I think cce transferred better to outdoor golf especially tight lies.

My previous setup if you hit it 1/4" behind the ball it's going like 50% distance and snapping to the left. Fiberbuilt I have to hit it like 1.5" fat to really be penalized. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think its realistic at all. It's like hitting out of the rough if you can place the ball with your fingers.

I wish I could use you my previous setup but my body just can't handle it. Honestly I think it might be 3-5 shots difference per 18 holes.

What mat do you hit off now. I'd like the CCE but my body is already hurting from hitting too much.

I don’t think you can put a number on shots difference between mats. If you hit heavy on fiberbuilt your not hitting your number. Some people think fiberbuilt is more penal cause if you are hitting heavy there is nothing there to save you. Some mats that are firm a heavy shot goes fine cause the club just deflects off it and isn’t penalized. The only thing here of importance imo is your health and fiberbuilt is the safest play imho.

Is it difficult to putt off of the fibre built? I find my body getting soar from the cce but I feel like the fibre built would take the enjoyment out of putting

I putt off the last 12 inches of fiberbuilt on to 2 cce strips up to the screen without issue.

I have yet to play on any sim where I would really think it is benefiting my putting stroke.

Yes, I said nothing about benefiting my stroke IRL. More curious for the enjoyment of putting in the game

                Hi Bender!

Haven't tried putting off my Fiberbilt, but Par2Pro told me that with their DriCore and Putting turf, the surface is at the same height and the putting experience is very good. If anyone has experience with that combination, please advise.

                thank you very much

Your best bet is the TrueStrike mat or a DIY version. Putting off Fiberbuilt is not good - that came from their Rep - he talked me out of buying it. Truestrike isn't perfect but it's the best thing out there that I've used.

Wizard thinks his putting has been adequate off of the fiberbuilt. He has even putted off it with straight putting patch off and no gimmies.
Here is that bet he took shoot 75 or better $50 Video if your bored.
No boost, no straight putt patch, no gimmies

At least watch hole 18 lol

I bought the 1x4 fiberbuilt strip and ended up going back to my All turf mat. I think the ATM helps me hit the ball better for outside. If I catch it fat, i get penalized as I would outdoors with chunky distances. The fiberbuilt you can also hit lob shots like they're nothing, the club just glides right under the ball. If you want a healthy body, you can't beat the fiberbuilt but it's not for me.

I’ve tried everything: traditional mat, mat that takes a tee, DIY gel, DIY divot action, and Fiberbuilt. I don’t feel like the Fiberbuilt is as forgiving as others claim. The feedback just isn’t as in-your-face. I still know when I hit a shot a little fat. Everything does feel smoother, but I’m not afraid to take a divot and I don’t end up shallowing out my swing to pick it like with a regular mat over time.

Putting on the Fiberbuilt isn’t bad for me. I hover my putter on the course anyway and don’t rest it in the ground so for me it’s not an issue.

I think the Fiberbuilt is #1 in terms of not bothering my back and not aggravating anything else. DIY divot action would be #2 all around for me. I used the DIY gel for a loong time and feel it is only marginally better than a traditional mat. A mat that takes a tee is the worst - no doubt it will cause some aches and pains over time.

I have a Truestrike Portable hitting station, and a Fiberbuilt 1' X 3' hitting strip.
I am in the middle of a swing overhaul so take my opinion FWIW.
I am, however, the king of fat shots and hitting behind the ball.

Fiberbuilt is easier on the body for sure. I hit off of Fiberbuilt commercial mats at a nearby range here in town so was used to them.
The Truestrike is also forgiving but the feedback on fat shots is a little more harsh- like a firm dry fairway.
I don't think either one makes bad shots acceptable unless you count the bounce into the ball from fat shots which is a little better result than in than real life.
You get penalized on both of them.

Both beat the heck out of the CCE or similar commercial range mats that are like cement with a layer of fake grass on them. Hit on one of them the other day when out of town and they are brutal.
But for better ball strikers- it may not matter as much.

So if you want a less cushy mat I think TrueStrike might be worth trying to see if you like it better, but I like them both.

When in doubt use them both. I think the fiberbuilt is a little more forgiving, the truestrike a bit firmer. They both give decent feedback on missed shots. I think they both putt fine. I was getting a bit of elbow soreness with the truestrike - could be time for new gelpad. Wish the gc 2 field of vision was bit larger - hard to get a perfect spot that overlays both mats.
