    Holy Grail Hitting Strip

I’ve seen it mentioned here in a few spots but I wanted to give my .02 on the insert from gunghogolf after getting it installed and putting through 100-200 swings.
First off, the team there at gung-ho does a great job; from answering initial questions prior to purchase (skytrak) and follow through on the back end. They also shipped ahead of schedule which was a nice surprise.
My original mat had a longer ply height resulting in lower than expected numbers when I first starting using the ST. At first I questioned the unit but was able to run it side by side with trackman to verify. This also gave me a chance to hit off a fiberbuilt insert. Launch numbers were comparable to irl but as a digger I couldn’t quite warm up to the feeling. ST and TM launch speeds and angles were nearly identical throughout the session so I was able to single out the mat as most likely culprit.
I decided to give the Holy Grail Strip a try and so far I’m very pleased. Install was pretty straight forward, I haven’t stuck it down yet so I can’t speak on the adhesive.
Ball/club interaction is good and so far seems to give very accurate results compared to the feeling of the swing whether fat/thin/push/pull.

Anybody else give it a try yet?

Brettster If you're buying our HG mat, I'd recommend sticking with the HG strip. Of course you could cut in any alternate strip you want, but heights may not match perfectly. The Fiberbuilt strip is terrible to putt off of, if that's important to you.

Not a fan of 3-way hitting strips.

Thanks GungHoGolf - I'm not sure, but that's what I heard direct from ProTee, stay away from 100% nylon turf, too much reflection of infrared lights? It's not a flash with ProTee but a continuous Infrared flood light, maybe that has something to do with it?

Regarding the Fiberbuilt strip, yep, that's nice, so that would be easy to cut into your HG? Also, your quick take on 3 way hitting strips? I'm hoping to try hitting from one (Rough, Fairway, First Cut), just to see what the penalty is with the R10... I may pick one up as part of net deal, but wondered if you have any available that you know are good/durable?

Brettster - yes, the HG strip uses 100% nylon Money Putt turf by Grass-Tex. Can't imagine it being a problem with a launch monitor - both SkyTrak and GC Quad use infrared flash as well, and we use them on it all the time. The alternative is polypropylene turf, but that's the stuff that burns/rubs the green onto your irons. You can buy the 3' Fiberbuilt strip at https://fiberbuiltgolf.com/products/...-holes-12-x-35.

GungHoGolf - I see your GrassTex is 100% nylon, is he HG also all nylon? Reason I'm asking is that if I install HG somewhere in my ProTee install, I've been told to stay away from all-nylon mats as it messes with the infrared lighting required by ProTee... If I don't install ProTee, of course it's not an issue, but also would like to know where I am to buy the Fiberbuilt that the HG strip slots into - direct from FB, do you have a link? Thanks.

Email pics and your order number to us at hello@gunghogolf.com - we unconditionally cover any problems like that for 12 months. We had a small number go out that apparently got thin glue coverage under the turf at the factory.

Brettster - yes, similar design to the DA, but many find it better as the turf we use is less grabby and a deep divot has no chance of "bottoming out" with pain in the wrists. Unknown lifespan, product is too new. We unconditionally warranty it for 12 months.

Tell me about the HG Ron? So, that entire middle section is like a Divot Action and reacts similar to a divot action? What is the life of HG (number of ball strikes - like I think the Fiberbuilt is 300,000, or something like that)?

jdang307 I can say for sure I am getting higher spin off my irons on the HG, BUT its not a massive amount. As GungHoGolf said its really all about club delivery. I just feel like with HG, i'm getting spin numbers that are more representative of my on course play. I'm a big fan of the product as it sits. I really have no complaints of it at all.

I've been using the Holy Grail now for about 4-6 weeks. Here are my impressions:

    1) From an impact / injury perspective it is very similar to the Divot Action, with one exception. As a high handicapper, on the DA, an errant swing with poor balance resulted in slamming the club into the back / bottom of the DA. The bottom of the DA is fiberglass. Hitting fiberglass head on with an iron both hurts from a skelatal-muscular perspective, but also cracked the fiberglass. It happened enough where the whole back was destroyed, so I flipped the DA 180 degrees and got a few more months out of it until that side of the fiberglass broke. The Holy Grail does not have that problem at all and the extra 17" of length have really made a big difference for comfort.
    2) The accuracy of the shots seems very good. Much as SkeetShooter mentions above. Putting has been realistic also
    3) The product is very durable as I've been hitting for about an hour a night for over a month... no problems, it still looks and feels exactly as it did on the day i received it
    4) The only minor problem i've had with it (and this is probably unique to my setup) is that my Holy Grail rests on top of cork. The velcro does not stick well to the cork. I had to buy some new velcro and have been working on ways to get it to stick better. Yesterday I used contact glue under the velcro strip to get it to stick better. So far so good.
    5) The buying process and working with Ron (@GungHoGolf) cannot be beat. Ron is honest and very knowledgeable about all things simulators!

    Great Job Ron (@gunghogolf)
Thanks so much for your review! Glad you're liking the Holy Grail strip!

The Holy Grail strip is 1.5" total height, from bottom velcro to top of turf. It's designed to be inset into a floor with a 1" sublayer and 3/3-1/2" turf on top.

What's the height of the Holy Grail strip?

Want to make a cut out on my stance mat which is about 1" high (3/4" pile height) and need to figure out how much that needs to be raised to make everything flush.
