I’ve seen it mentioned here in a few spots but I wanted to give my .02 on the insert from gunghogolf after getting it installed and putting through 100-200 swings.
First off, the team there at gung-ho does a great job; from answering initial questions prior to purchase (skytrak) and follow through on the back end. They also shipped ahead of schedule which was a nice surprise.
My original mat had a longer ply height resulting in lower than expected numbers when I first starting using the ST. At first I questioned the unit but was able to run it side by side with trackman to verify. This also gave me a chance to hit off a fiberbuilt insert. Launch numbers were comparable to irl but as a digger I couldn’t quite warm up to the feeling. ST and TM launch speeds and angles were nearly identical throughout the session so I was able to single out the mat as most likely culprit.
I decided to give the Holy Grail Strip a try and so far I’m very pleased. Install was pretty straight forward, I haven’t stuck it down yet so I can’t speak on the adhesive.
Ball/club interaction is good and so far seems to give very accurate results compared to the feeling of the swing whether fat/thin/push/pull.
Anybody else give it a try yet?

Thanks, I have some plastic sheeting that I might try. I will look into ordering the Holy GrailOriginally posted by GungHoGolf View Post
The HG strip definitely needs velcro at front and back to hold it in place securely, and it's a bit difficult to get under it and pull apart that velcro - nothing you'd want to do on a regular basis. So if your mat needs to move, you could do one of the following:
1. Attach the entire mat on a piece of 3/8" plywood, and velcro the HG strip to that
2. Figure out a way to firmly adhere a thin piece of plastic (like this 1/32" x 24" x 48" one: https://amzn.to/3lPsMEl) to the underside of the mat, and velcro the strip to that. Not sure what the material is on the bottom of your mat, and what it might take to attach the plastic sheet to it - some kind of glue or double-sided tape would be what I would try.

Sorry for the delay, and thank you for your order! We should be getting about half of our Holy Grail strips from our factory later today, and shipping them out tomorrow and Wednesday. Depends on where you fall in the queue - email our support team at hello@gunghogolf.com to check.Originally posted by TD22057 View PostHey Ron, any chance of an update on when the hitting strips might ship? Glad you like the Holy Grail strip, and thank you for the feedback!Originally posted by REY80439 View PostMy HG hitting strip arrived several weeks ago, and I used it as a replacement for the hitting strip insert in my Fiberbuilt matting system. With the Fiberbuilt mat, I had experienced consistently extreme distance penalties on shots that were hit only slightly fat. The HG hitting strip still penalizes fat shots, but much more realistically in my opinion. Well worth the investment.

This is Rob. I have a used driving range and was wondering if I could insert the HG in it to improve the mat. I can measure the depth of my mat to see if it will properly fit. I saw that you mention velcro and such under HG mat. I will not be able to do that as my mat will need to move. Is there a method of doing this?
Thanks

Glad you're like your Holy Grail strip! Appreciate the feedback.Originally posted by ExplorNH View PostI just installed a holy grail in that mat and it went well. The Quattro is about 1/8 higher then the holy grail. My Quattro sits on grizzly grass from lowes and when I cut out the section on the mat I also cut the turf and it lines up perfect. On a side note it will be so worth the effort to add the holy grail. It is so much nicer to hit off of compared to the Quattro. I was getting rib, elbow, and wrist pain using the Quattro.

I normally hit about 5-6 deg down and it's really punishing me. I'm either going to cut it and try to DIY something similar or just buy a Holy Grail insert. However - this post here says it's 1 1/2" thick and this post here says it's 1 3/8" thick. The quattro is 1 1/4" thick so obviously I'm hoping that the 1 3/8" is the accurate number. Can Ron or anyone else confirm how thick it actually is? Thanks!

Hi Ron, any chance of getting one of these shipped to Ireland? Thanks!

It's probably closer to 1 7/16" to be exact. Perhaps you could find a 3/16"-1/4" piece of masonite or plywood to put under your Quattro? The extra 3/16" height may not bother you, but you would want to make sure to never catch the raised back edge with a club.

Thanks for your business and feedback, Brent! Glad you're liking it.Originally posted by Brent628 View PostI've had the Holy Grail for over a month now. I've played about 6 rounds on it and I've very pleased. I had used the real-tee mat previously. It was nice, but always had that cringe feeling when hitting a long iron or 3 wood off the deck. Now, they cut right through it and feels pretty real. I had two of the real-tee golf mats, so I cut a hole in one of them. Just make sure you cut it wide enough so the Holy Grail doesn't stick to the side walls and not pop back up. I was patient and trimmed a little at a time to make sure I got it right. My league will be kicking off in about 2-3 weeks. Anxious to see my 20 or so friends' reactions on it compared to that of last year. I do know I had several friends that struggled on the real-tee mat. They have steeper swings. We shall see what they all say.
