Anyone on here use the fiberbuilt inserts for their mat? I currently use a CCE hitting strip inserted in my old Optishot hitting platform and am exploring other options. I have a steep angle of attack and take big divots in real life. This obviously doesn't work well with a firm mat like the CCE. The fibers just grab the club and its wreaking havoc on my left wrist. Does the Fiberbuilt surface provide a little more gentle impact? It seems like there would be a little more give in it. I realize it wouldn't provide as good of a gauge of fat shots, but that's ok with me.

I have a CCE hitting strip and it is killing my neck. I can play 36 IRL and don't hurt at all, but after playing 18 on the sim my neck hurts. I also think the slightly fat shots that play like major chunks have started to change my swing in a bad way. I'm looking for a new hitting mat. Could I just get a fiberbuilt without buying the whole setup? This mat:

looks very similar to the fiberbuilt. Is it the same thing?

I'm not sure about fiber built but you might check out the DIY real feel thread on here. I went to it from a CCE strip and it is much easier on my elbow. Might help your neck too
-
Thanks. I bought the gel and cut out the bottom of my CCE strip. Unfortunately I think it is the grass on the CCE that is the issue.
-
Yes I agree that the grass on the CCE can be jarring to your body. If you already bought the gel, you can get a smaller hitting strip of the mat used on the other thread for something like $17. It has much shorter grass so it doesn't grab your club.

might be able to cut it in to your mat like others have done, height might be a issues unless you build up around it. I had the same problem playing with 5x5 driving mat with my sky trak but with the pro tee it seems to help with my old man aches and pains after playing a round. last week I played with my skytrak and put the red dot on the tee area of the pro tee sensor and had no issues with my elbow hurting when done.

I have the Fiberbuilt and am very happy with it, but I have never tried the CCE mat. I bought it at their facility here in Calgary. I tend to hit it fat and only noticed a little lead elbow pain after consecutive 100+ ball days.Last edited by weakhead; 10-01-2016, 03:02 PM. Reason: Edit: just wanted to clarify that it's soreness not a sharp pain

Drill a hole from the bottom. My mat has proven to be really durable. I must have the equivalent of 800 rounds on it and I have yet to rotate the hitting area. mine is 4 12x12 panels put together. As it wears, I can take it apart and rotate out the hitting area. My hitting area is about 1/16 of an inch shorter from wear. Not really worth moving it yet.

Weakhead, Where do you golf locally? I mostly play Carstairs, Crossfield, Madden. I find Carstairs to be the best value.

I have the CCE insert and it certainly is hard on the joints compared to Fiberbuilt. ProTee and GSA sensor bases use Fiberbuilt which I have gone back to and am muh, much happier. Can't go wrong with the Fiberbuilt.

I also use the Fiberbuilt 12"x12" squares , I like it compared to the last mat I had which was 3/4" turf on 1" neoprene.
I drilled a 5/8" hole in mine in the rear section.to mount a short tee holder and use regular plastic tees. Way better than the other system I had.

I have a CCE and SkkyTrak, using it for both practice and simulator. I've only been playing golf for about a year. I feel it's ok, CCE punishes me for hitting too far behind the ball, but as noted by others, really pushes me to avoid a swing that "takes a divot" because the club tends to stick in the grass. So I worry that I'm developing too much of a "pick" swing with CCE to avoid hitting the mat. I'm considering either a Fiberbuilt or Truestrike. Seems like both are more encouraging of divot-swing and less aches - Fiberbuilt due to longer brush-like grass, and Truestrike due to the gel under the surface. Seems like Fiberbuilt is not so good for sim putting? Any thoughts on Truestrike for overall performance including putting? Truestrike appears to have a lot of professional installations.

I'm looking at Fiberbuilt fairway insert panels and making my own stance mat. It is difficult to find the thickness of the panels online. Only one place mentioned a thickness. Is 1.75 inches the correct thickness?

I would also like to know the thickness of the fiberbuilt turf. And what kind of backing it has (any padding under it?)
My CCE mat sits on concrete and is 1.5 inches think. I need to know if I could just cut-out a section of the CCE to insert a couple of fiberbuilt panels.
The other option is to buy the whole stance mat setup from fiberbuilt. It would be nice to have the 100 pound rubber foundation..should prevent the slippage I get with teh CCE directly on the concrete floor.

I have 2 of the fiberbuilt panels and also a CCE hitting strip. From memory, the FB panels are much thicker than the CCE strip. I don't see how you'd be able to drop FB panels in to a CCE mat. The FB panels have a hard, plastic base that the grass fibers are attached to. Although the base is hard plastic, you would never be able to come close to hitting it with your club because of how thick the grass fibers are. I will try and measure tonight to give you an exact figure.
My 2 12" x 12" panels that I bought directly from Fiberbuilt are barely used and I might be interested in selling them depending on what shipping cost will be. My only dislike about the Fiberbuilt inserts is putting. It's hard to get your putter to sit square on the long fibers at times in my experience.

Got the "regular" which is the Ultra. That's the least expensive and is the same one used on the ProTee sensor.
Don't think anyone would gain anything with the thicker turf. If anything it would help the club just skim over the turf and not penalize fat shots. The regular Ultra is plenty realistic.

I just got off the phone with Kim at Fiberbuilt. She was great to deal with!! I also have a CCE 4'x5' hitting mat. I find it very hard to my body after hitting many shots, especially my hands and fingers for some reason. I just ordered 2 of the 1ft x 1 ft panels to give it a try. Kim said the panels are 1.5" thick just as the CCE mat. I will try them next to the CCE mat and if I like them i will either order 2 more 1ft panels and make a permanent strip along side of my CCE mat or I will cut out a section of the CCE mat and place it "in" the mat. Will let you know how it turns out and how the fiberbuilt compares.

Wrenched my side again. Not sure if it is from my CCE or not. My elbows and wrists are fine, but this is the second time in a month I've tweaked a ribcage muscle and whatever it is. Hurts at the top transfer from back swing and when I cough.
Either way, just ordered the S4R from Kim and will see how it feels. I couldn't bring myself to just get the inserts and cut my $$$$ CCE.

The S4R is the full setup correct? Stance mat, rubber foundation, hitting turf? I would love to see a review from you when you get it.
I sent an email to them about getting the turf without any tee-holes cut, and they can do that no problem. I just need a good review or 2 to push me into buying!
I played the TGC tour even this weekend, and left elbow is all messed up today. I have only hit balls twice this month trying to rest it. I think I un-did all that rest over the weekend, it hurts worse than ever...

I got my fire built panels in. They are nice to hit off of but two huge drawbacks. 1) putting is horrible on these things. It really frustrated me during my first round of the latest tournament. I shot my worst score ever. 2) they are not the exact same height as the CCE. If I kept these I would need something under the firebuilt panels to make them the same height as my stance mat.
They were also a little wider than my CCE hitting strip. I had to cut my turf to make them fit. I did a crappy job and I don't even want them anymore. I put my CCE strip back in and it looks like shit now. 😪
