  • Fiberbuilt Opinions Please

Anyone on here use the fiberbuilt inserts for their mat? I currently use a CCE hitting strip inserted in my old Optishot hitting platform and am exploring other options. I have a steep angle of attack and take big divots in real life. This obviously doesn't work well with a firm mat like the CCE. The fibers just grab the club and its wreaking havoc on my left wrist. Does the Fiberbuilt surface provide a little more gentle impact? It seems like there would be a little more give in it. I realize it wouldn't provide as good of a gauge of fat shots, but that's ok with me.

I got the full setup, but after I inquired about no holes in the insert, Kim sent me a pic of a new/different product, S4F. Everything is the same except the stance mat that now holds a real tee, so must be something similar to the CCE or TeeLine turf. I didn't see anything in the email asking me not to share the pic, so...

Sounds to be about what I expected. I don't mind not being able to use real tees since I use those tomahawk tees anyway. The putting issues I understand also and had already figured I would need to move my skytrak to putt in this setup. I'll figure it out I'm sure. I have enough room that I will be placing the fiberbuilt in front of my existing CCE mat, so should be easy to deal with. Eventually I'll make one of those slide things and/or upgrade to a GC2 and it will all get much easier to deal with.

Not sure what you have against getting the Fiberbuilt insert with holes for a tee holder. The rubber tee holder insert lets you use real tees. Works very well. My tees wear out but don't break using this system.

with skytrak, the hole or pretty useless unless you align the unit directly to it....but then you can't hit an iron. tee claw + tomahawk tee works perfect, no hole needed

They were also a little wider than my CCE hitting strip. I had to cut my turf to make them fit. I did a crappy job and I don't even want them anymore. I put my CCE strip back in and it looks like shit now. 😪

What do you think the issue is with putting? To me it looks like the ball may sit down a little bit in the turf, so getting it started might cause a hop, and the turf just looks more grabby than the flat and hard CCE. Is that what you are seeing?

assuming most are testing the putting on the standard ultra panel? does anyone have the ultra hd or optimizer panels to test putting from?

Yes and that first bounce might be left or it might be right. I'm pretty good at getting my putt started online but I was getting 2+ degrees left or right. Super frustrating. It also felt weird setting the putter down behind the ball. The putter sinks into the grass.

My 2 cents... the Fiberbuilt panels are designed for hitting from. They are not designed for putting. The surface is just too resilient and soft.

For those familiar with the Monster Mat, it would be like trying to putt from that.

You certainly wouldn't use Fiberbuilt panels to create a putting green. They are not designed for that. Don't be surprised at the results you see when trying to putt.

I used to use the CCE and I developed a bad case of golfer's elbow. As many have said, the CCE grabs the club and decelerates the swing too quickly if you hit down on the ball. Yes, this is great for learning to not hit the ball fat but even with catching the ball first and then the turf correctly you will trash yourself if you take a divot. I've had the divot action mat for about a month:

I think this is the way to go. Fairly normal divot feel from the insert, and so much easier on the joints. Probably a little more forgiving than real life. The stance mat itself is also nice and firm. My understanding of the Fiberbuilt products is that it is not a very natural hitting surface. Kind of like hitting from an upside down broom. Way too forgiving and an overly fluffy lie every time.

For those of you that have developed golfer's elbow, in addition to using the divot action mat, this product has helped me tremendously:

Finally for those of you with hitting mats sliding on concrete, velcro tape keeps mine from moving at all:

So I received my Fiberbuilt today and so far, very mixed feelings on it.

The good...I can hit my 3 wood off this mat. I can do absolutely nothing with it off the CCE. From the FB, I can finally flush it and it looks like a sorely needed gap has been filled. I had zero 200 yard shot from the fairway previously unless I hit a perfect 3i downhill. In general, I like hitting my long irons from it as well. I haven't been using my hybrids either off the CCE and it looks like I'll have those back also if wanted.

The bad....almost everything else. I can not for the life of me hit any full shot lower then a 5i from this damn mat. It is just too soft for my relative sweeper swing and I get fiber city between my clubface and the ball and just about every shot. Absolutely everything sounds tinthin unless hit absolutely perfect, and even then, I seem 10-15% shorter off the FB then the CCE. Chipping around the greens felt good, but any swing longer than a 1/2 shot was problematic. Need to spend more time on it, but I don't think it is going to work for me on 6-7i down.

That said....lol, I can hit my damn 3W now...so it's not going anywhere. I have it in back of my CCE right now and It sits just a little bit higher, so I need to adjust the blocks my SkyTrak sits on. Other then than, looks like I'll be moving my SkyTrak shot dependent. Driving, short irons & putting from the CCE. 3W, long irons and chipping/sand shots from the FB.

The shop I go to for fittings and lessons uses the fiberbuilt. So I have hit off one pretty extensively the past two years. With mid and lower irons, if you are getting fiber city as well as thin sounds.....it seems like you are hitting well behind the ball and then catching it thin? What's odd is that you are getting shorter distances on the FB than the CCE....as most people say the CCE is more punishing. Have you tried hitting off the FB stance mat?

IMO if you are making ball first contact it shouldn't matter what kind of mat you are hitting off. I currently have the ultimate monster tee mat (Cheaper version of the CCE). I don't take big divots out on the course but tend to hit a little fat. I've really been working on making ball first contact. On the UMT(CCE) even if I make ball first contact I still get ALOT of deceleration and it has taken a toll on my left wrist/hand. So much that I called fiberbuilt yesterday for a quote.

How quick is their shipping? Did they ship the same day? Does it get shipped by fedex ground or did it come Freight (because of weight)?

Weird...I just got a reply from Pam at Fiberbuilt...and she said it would ship FedEx Ground, 2 business days to me in NY.

Did they change their mats? I have the fairway panel and the ball does not sit down at all. On my sand panel and rough panels, it does sit down. I rarely use them except I use the sand panel for when I have to hit out of the sand.
We ship a lot of things to the west coast from WI. If you use UPS or Fed-EX ground, it always takes 5+ days, We can ship to almost any other place and it takes 2 days.
If we use Priority Mail, it usually only takes 2 days everywhere, including the west coast.

with that said on the fiberbuilt I have gotten used to it as well as a lot of protee owners, the mat is a good all around mat once you have committed to using it and it hits different then other mats as well as other mats hit different to the fiberbuilt, its worth putting in the time to learn the difference as you have adjusted your swing for the CCE you will need to do so for the fiberbuilt, but this will after time assist you in the wrist and elbow damage which is now non existent for me and my hitting game is on track. If I would go back to the CCE I would have to battle the learning curve again and have felt that at a IRL driving range.

I have the same issue with 3W on my CCE. Its such a hard surface. I need a little grass under the ball to get a good result from my 3W and the CCE doesnt give you any of that.

Sorry to hear you are not liking the mat. Seems like it would be a real pain to move the skytrak between CCE and FB during a round.

I think my quest for a CCE replacement is now between Truestrike and DivotAction.
