  • New Setup, Help me pick a Mat

Search didn't help much and I have to believe this question gets asked a lot, but..... here goes !!

What should I know before I purchase a mat ? Looks like CCE is the way to go, any thoughts ? This is a new build for me and I have nothing yet. Looks like the it will be a Skytrack system if that changes anything.

Check out this thread. It is possible to save tons of money.

After taking the advice of John (Aeroburner), I stopped by my local Synlawn here in Dallas. I able to get the following remnants: 7x4 Classic Pitch 10x10

CCE will punish you greatly if you hit it fat with Skytrak which is exactly what I had hoped for and it delivers. CCE all the way.

Nobody here saying anything about Fiberbuilt? Fiberbuilt gives you the most accurate launch monitor readings compared to fairway grass. The CCE is going to give you much worse ball flight data. They are not cheap but very much so worth it

I've been reading these threads for around a year trying to figure out a mat solution to replace my frankenstein monster mat/hitting strip that drives me crazy. I think I'm going to go CCE 5x5 through costco. I think fiberbuilt would be good, maybe synlawn... but I have no joint/elbow issues and everything I've read sounds like CCE is the way to go.

I've been doing some research, but didn't want to do much DIY. I went with all turf mats residential mat 6x10 for $240shipped. I like the quality and the size is perfect for my net return and skytrak.

Thanks for all the replies.......Having checked the cost of some of these mats (and chocking!!) ..... What size should I think about ?? I'm just barely 6' tall.

adding another part to the question............................. Anybody try Martin Hall's 5 star mat ?? Looks like it might be even heavier then the CCE mat.

With the CCE there is no room for error.. you have to flush it and the goes the desired distance... it will make you a better ball striker for sure and make you focus... just like playing real golf on real grass. What happens when you hit a fat shot or a thin one.... right it goes nowhere... well that the kind of feedback I want.. Other mats out there are OK but if you mis hit the shot the ball will travel but thats not realistic..

You can buy a CCE insert and go to your local golf course ask if they are willing to part with an old mat the if so cut a 1x2 ft pice and slip it in there... here's a photo

It's about 40 bucks on ebay. Doing it this way will save you at least 250 because your not buying a 4x5ft mat.. you only need the space that you hit off of and since the gc2 has a range of where you put the ball you won't wear out the insert by hitting the from the same spot..

I agree with the CCE.. it is punishing but has made me a better ball striker.. I have tried a few others in the past.. not cheap but worth it..
