  • NEW - Flightscope Mevo+

It looks like Flightscope is bringing an updated Mevo to the January PGA Merchandise Show. According to the brief blurb, this version will have skills combines and golf course simulation. Another exhibitor, Awesome Golf, is listed as a new simulation partner for Flightscope, and I assume that this is the software that might work with this new Mevo. Looks like something to keep an eye on!

  • I'm sorta surprised that nobody who picked up a mevo+ during the pga merchandise show has released any testing or comparison data yet... Anyone know if this exists yet anywhere?

It's been stated in a couple places that tests and comparisons are coming. I'm sure by the end of the week there will be videos.

Gung Ho is doing a comparison, supposedly Par2Pro is, and Garage Golf. You have to remember these guys are all located in different areas of the country (and for Par2Pro, they are in Canada) It takes time to fly back from FL get to your studio, set up and test, film, edit... I'm hopeful for a video by this weekend by one of those 3... My money is on Gung Ho or Garage Golf

  • I took a leap of faith and ordered one to replace my SkyTrak. I feel it’s a better fit for what I do and I think FS is a good enough name they wouldn’t release a piece of junk (sure there may be growing pains but they know the tech).

I won’t have it for over a month as I shipped it to a friends house in Florida as I’m there at the end of February and shipping things like this to Canada is a pain as I find customs holds it up and they overcharge duty a lot if shipper isn’t super clear what it is (and this is a niche product).

    • Someone posted a short video of putting to a 20' target. It appeared to misread 3 out of the 6 putts. Two for sure were misreads, one way left and one way right (and possibly a second way right). Will be interesting to see more videos. He said he did not orientate the dot a certain way each time, no idea if that will make a difference.

      • Well, I made the plunge. I have pre-ordered the Mevo+. My Skytrak has been very solid and I have been very pleased with it except for one thing and that is outside at the range. It’s not a very good range unit IMO. When hitting off the grass the divots and related dirt damage the lense. Having to move the unit all the time. Sun which will always be shining into the lense at our range. Inside on my sim it is a very good unit. I may keep it depending on what I get out of the Mevo+ and how the integration of TGC19 goes as I have a lifetime of that. If I see bad test results this week I can always cancel my order. My reason for the Mevo+ is more for range use for myself and my daughter who is hoping to get a golf scholarship in the near future. I will also be able to compare it to her coach’s Flightscope to see if the numbers compare. One thing I was notified about by Flightscope is that it will work fine with colored range balls (we have yellow Callaway) but there is not a compensation setting for range balls. I believe our golf balls are decent as I have used TM on suppliers club fittings at our range and the coach’s FS and the numbers were good, but I wonder if the higher end TM and FS have a compensation for range balls to make it look correct? Hmmm. Anybody? Also, not sure if anyone knows but it does not explain if the metal stickers come with the unit. I have asked them to clarify that. I’m sure it doesn’t but there is nothing that shows what’s in the box.

I can speak for TM, which does in fact have a ball compensation feature where the software can calculate what the results would have been if you were using a premium golf ball. The biggest issue is identifying the type of range ball that you are using and then making sure you input that into the settings within TPS. I have found the feature to be useful at times, but I am not sure you need to be overly fussed with the fact that it could be missing on the MEVO+ given its price point. Not sure if the unit comes with the stickers, but if it does not, please note that they can be purchased from TM for $20 and I am sure FS is similar. I also believe you can find some online sellers that sell them as well. One thing you could do to compare your range ball with a premium ball is to take some old premium balls that you have found around the course and compare them on the range with what your course is using. Through the course of a season, I can typically find dozens of great golf balls that I don't play with and usually keep a few in the bag to hit out onto the range when practicing once and a while. At my course these golf balls are kept and donated to our junior players.

Thanks Dax, thats great and useful information. I actually have a milk crate full of decent and some premium balls that I will try, Great idea. I am just chuckling thinking about the guy putting the range balls into the dispensary machine and wondering what all those white golf balls are doing mixed up with the yellow range balls. Lol 😂

From a couple of unboxing videos, it looks like a sheet of metal dots are included

Ah, Neepster, you are correct. I had not paid much attention to the unboxing (did not seem very exciting) but now that I have watched one, I did see that. Thank you.

        • I just looked at the FS Golf App (not MEVO). The settings have a section for "clubs" and "balls." Within the balls, you can create a ball as a "standard" ball or a "range" ball. Unknown as to whether the system makes an adjustment for it. But, the option is there.

Ok, so it is there for Flightscope upper line of software, but it is not available for Mevo+ software.
This was from Flightscope sales: The Mevo+ will track those range balls, however, there is no "range ball" feature on the Mevo+ software to compensate.

This really interests me - for most my use will be outdoors. l've reached out to Flightscope (online) a few days ago and yet to receive a reply (which is concerning in itself). Appreciate any response or review on normalisation.

I had reached out to them via email and they have been very responsive. They did not have all the answers to my questions, but they said that they would in short order. I have been very impressed with there communication with me so far.

Thanks Pwade3. Tried again, and they got back. Confirmed "no" range ball normalisation - other than premium units > x3, xi tour.

        • I see a review out there now, https://youtu.be/HQfGDfbMTU0

Looks promising. Only thing I question so far is the club speed on first PW shot, which showed something like 95 mph. Seems really high.
